Additional info & updates

2+ years of patent experience (patent examiner, USPTO) by fall 2006

Had to report an alcohol citation to several schools (even though it was dismissed)

Michagan State: Phone call followed by standard envelope

Case: Very thick standard envelope..and another free t-shirt!

DePaul: Large folder sized envelope with "Welcome to DePaul" printed on the front...followed by a free t-shirt!

GW: Sinlge page in standard envelope

Franklin Pierce: Email

Mason:Single page, standard envelope, 3/23, now I'm rejected oh boy,

Cardozo: Standard envelope

Minnesota: Standard Envelope

Wisconsin: Standard Envelope

Kent: Standard Envelope

2/9: Got an odd email from Iowa requesting my "correct mailing address". Very odd, that makes me think they tried to send me something and it was not delivered.

Indiania: Standard Envelope

Houston: Email

American: Larger than normal envelope, another waitlist to add to the pile!

3/16: University of Maryland switched over to "decision made" on the application status webpage.

Maryland: Another waitlist!!!! Regular envelope inside a larger one.

Iowa: Another waitlist but this time at on a school ranked 22 by US News...hmm.

William and Mary: Wow, i'm like the king of all waitlists. And again at a really good school! Weird. I was flat out rejected at worse schools.

4/1/06 A bunch of the schools of which I applied took a major hit in the US News rankings. Too bad its not an April fools joke.

Chicago-Kent: Email acceptance after asking last week if I was still interested in being considered.

6/20/06- attending Case Western as of now. Still hoping to get off the waitlist at any of my waitlist schools.

6/29/06- I emailed Maryland asking what my status was and the admissions woman responded that she had good news and that I should give her my phone number so she could call me. Of course she called and to let me know that I got in!!!! Unless someting crazy happens I'm going to Maryland!!

My patent experience has been at USPTO. I've been a patent examiner since May 2004. I got two recs from two of my supervisors there.

Early Decision

I did apply to those schools early decision, but none of them were binding.

Part time?

I work at the PTO too. Did you apply part-time to american? Why not have the PTO pay for it?

New York

A lot of my family and friends are in New Jersey. My backup plan is to try and get a job at a firm in the NYC area and go to school up there.

What schools are you top choices?

Preference
Wednesday, January 18 2006 at 07:00 PM

I don't really care if the school is ranked in IP, because I figure I will get the best IP experience at the PTO or at a firm. If I was coming straight out of college maybe I would care more about that. I want to get into Catholic or American because I have a standing offer from Finnegan Henderson (top IP Firm in DC) for the student associate position. I think I will get into Catholic off of the waiting list. I'm not sure about American. It coud go either way. I'm thinking it will probaby be waitlist or rejection!

Decision
Monday, January 02 2006 at 07:00 PM

As for Case v. American, I initially decided to attend Case after visiting both schools over my Spring Break. I just had a better feeling from the faculty and fellow admitted students at Case. As for Chicago-Kent, I eventually decided C-K over Case because of my desire to work in Chicago when I graduate. After that the waitlist acceptance from IU-B happened and I have decided to go there over Kent, just with a feeling that IU is overall a better school. Hope that helps.
