Additional info & updates

December 19 - finally submitted the last of my applications. A little bit later than some, but I don't think this will hurt me. Obviously I could be delusional.

December 20 - Apparently complete already at Gtown and UVa. UVa emailed me about a status update but I had to check Gtown's status checker on my own.

January 11 - Complete at Duke, Northwestern, Chicago.

January 14 - Phone call from Minnesota admissions office - in at Minnesota! Expected to get in there, but I'm definitely excited to know for sure.

Things I like about Minnesota: one of the only places in the world that will satisfy both my hockey and college basketball obsessions.

$10,000/yr from Minnesota too. This might be the best week of the cycle for me, but that will probably be ok.

February 7 - Went to decision at Gtown. Expecting a W/L but holding out hope for an acceptance.

Feb 12 - Accepted at WashU via email. Still waiting for letter from Georgetown.

Feb 13 - Dinged at Georgetown. Ouch. Expected a waitlist.

Feb 26 - In at Cornell and pretty god damn excited about it.

Mar 1 - Busy day for a Saturday. Got a big package from Cornell, $25,000 from WashU, and went to decision at UVa.

With the money from WashU, my acceptances are basically equivalent to me right now. I hope I find some direction soon.

March 4 - Rejected at UVa. The old thin letter.

March 14 - Held at Northwestern. Calling it a deferral. Still my first choice.

Early April - Minnesota pre-empted my withdrawal by increasing my scholarship to $15,000. This is three freaking quarters of in-state tuition.

No idea where I'm going.

April 15 - First news in weeks. In at Wisconsin, WL'd at UCLA. Incredibly, my first real waitlist. I will be withdrawing soon. I could never go to another basketball school.

April 18 - Waitlisted at Duke. Staying on and hoping to get lucky.

April 25 - Rejected at Penn. Far beyond the point of caring.

April 30 - Withdrawals. Much harder than reading rejection letters, those.

May 5 - Waitlisted at Vandy. I knew that last-minute fee waiver was a ploy!

And the award for most delinquent admissions committee in America goes to.... USC! By a mile, too.

May 12 - Waitlist from USC (cycle over... kind of) and need-based money from Cornell.

May 15 - Dinged at choice 1a.

June 3 - In at Duke. With some sadness, I'm withdrawing from Gorges Cornell and returning to my dream school.

Yeah, I'm from Ontario :). How about you? You should really have thrown in a couple hail mary's btw. 169, could have maybe got into some of the top schools. I know my list of reaches is incredulous, but aiming for a top 14 school. May not get it, but can't say I didn't try.

I'm not really interested in practicing Aboriginal Law, or for that matter, in applying to UManitoba. I have a friend who is doing their undergrad @ UM, and they are trying to get into UM Law School. My LSAT/GPA range is an auto-admit there, but if you want to work in the big markets, that's not going to help much. Not really looking at many Canadian Schools though. Your work experience will almost certainly make you a lock for Northwestern. I know a 173/2.54 got in there, they love high LSAT/low GPA/work experience, fyi.

If I get accepted into both I'm going to try to visit both campuses and make my decision that way. Needless to say, if Cornell rejects me then I'll be VERY happy regardless. Michigan has a better reputation, gorgeous architecture (just like Cornell), but has bigger class sizes (I'd prefer around 200 a class). Class size, and potentially "atmosphere" are the only things Cornell has on Michigan. I'm so excited!

Congrats

Nice work on UMinn. Tubby Smith is bringing some credibility to the program and there is seriously nothing like gopher hockey at Marriucci arena. Maybe I'll see you next year.

Yeah it's BFB. I made my name pretty obvious so someone like you would spot me. Good luck with all your decisions coming out in the next few weeks. Let me know where you end up man.

I found out because I got an email about an admitted students BBQ (and then another somewhat more formal email about visiting the school). I think my status changed on 2/29 too. Congrats on Cornell.

Haha...

My sentiments EXACTLY. I guess we're in the same boat. Lately I've been leaning towards Cornell, but yeah, I go back and forth on a daily basis it seems.

hell yea :)

"Andy: The capital of Maine is Montpelier, Vermont, which is near Ithaca, New York, where I went to Cornell." haha, not everyone can be as lucky as we are to have someone like Andy representing their school.

Congrats!
