All my applications are in.... Time to see what happens :)

-=-=-=-

30/10/2007: Got admissions materials from Columbia in the mail today....I must say, I was very disappointed...Here I thought it was something related to my application, but no...just a viewbook and such. I didn't even ask for one recently...Odd. Oh well.

01/11/2007: Scary mail from Columbia Law School today...Let me tell you that receiving a small, first class letter envelope from a Law School in November or December makes your heart stop like nothing else. I thought to myself, "oh my god... I've been rejected already? :(".... I opened it up, disheartened.... Turns out it was the Native Students association offering advice and wisdom through the process. Phew...They should have to use big manila envelopes in the future though....

05/11/2007: And with the exciting news from the LSAC that UCLA has finally asked for my report, I am happy to announce that every report has now been asked for :D. Furthermore, I'm now complete at 16 of 28 schools. :p. Let decision season begin! :D

08/11/2007: Complete at Columbia and Cornell, bringing the total # of Completes up to 21 now. I know why Indiana isn't complete (international forms suck), but what are the good people over at NYU doing? :(.

15/11/2007: Priority air mail from Michigan and WUSTL today. Small envelopes. Lesson Learned: Don't get excited. Both letters dated the 07/11/07, suggesting it takes a week for mail to arrive at my igloo. The content of the messages? "You're complete." I already knew that. Ah well.

20/11/2007: Priority air mail big envelope from Minnesota.... I'M IN! first acceptance of the cycle, my top choice outside of the T14, and they threw in $5,000 a year + a travel allowance to go visit Minneapolis!

30/11/2007: ...*crickets*...

05/12/2007: Admitted to Miami, backdated to November 28th. I also went to Decision on the Status Checker at GULC today, which is by far much more exciting news. I hope I was admitted =/.

06/12/2007: Status Checker @ UIUC updated to Decision....Apparently I'm waiting for 2 envelopes now =/.

07/12/2007(1): Phone call from the University of Illinois....I've been admitted with $25,000/yr scholarship....

07/12/2007(2): E-mail late this afternoon from Washington & Lee, the director of admissions just signed my admission letter and wanted to let me know. Nice of her. Scholarship offers are made in January. :)

10/12/2007: First commitment form from Minnesota.

11/12/2007: Boring day in the mail. Sigh, Regent Law spam mail. On the upside, I did get the letter version of my offer from Illinois, my scholarship is conditional on remaining in "good academic standing" but this is not clarified anywhere. =/.

12/12/2007(1): Another boring day for the mail. I received the hard copy of my admission to W&L though, which was nice. Also found out from Temple I went to decision this week, and that it would be mailed shortly. Excellent.

12/12/2007(2): Based on the past few years, going to go ahead and update Michigan to deferred. Technically no decision has "officially" been made yet, but it's a deferral this late with ED. :(

14/12/2007: Predictions come true, as I get the cold shoulder from my top choice =/. It hurts. However, in trying to stay positive, I've written a letter of continued interest, and will be submitting it tomorrow. Hopefully they get it early next week.

17/12/2007: Finally got my letter from GULC, capping off a bad period where, as expected, I got dinged. Disappointing, I really liked them. =/.

18/12/2007(1): Well, on the surface it would appear like the best way to deal with rejection is to receive $105,000 in scholarship offers the next day. One wishes they were at the top 20 schools though. Of course, dreaming in technicolour is fun. The decisions of the day, Miami awarded $23,000/yr, and Temple $12,000/yr. Nice of them.

18/12/2007(2): Withdrew from Temple.

18/12/2007(3): Withdrew from William and Mary, in large part in protest. However, given their errors with fee waivers early in the cycle, their unwillingness to admit me despite admitting people with substantially lower numbers, and their location, I decided that even with Full Tuition I just wasn't interested.

18/12/2007(4): Email from Lewis & Clark, with a scanned copy of my admissions letter. I'm in :D. Beautiful campus, $17,000/yr, nice to know.

21/12/2007: Deferred at Cornell. Time to write my LOCI.

28/12/2007: A boring lull in the admissions cycle ends the Christmas week, with no more admits. Stressful checking the mail every day, maybe I should become a hermit and live in a boathouse...Anyway, I did send the LOCI to Cornell, in the mail as of today. Here's hoping that Cornell knows I love them.

02/01/2008: The first post of the new year. Hard to believe. In less than 9 months, I will be going to Law School. Refreshing isn't it? Where is yet to be determined though. Cornell did come through with the hard-copy deferral though. Oh well :P, guess the LOCI was well placed ;).

03/01/2008: Received the hard copy of the offer from Lewis & Clark, 2.95 gpa required. Sighz. Also, more information on Minnesota, letting me know why I should choose them.

11/01/2008: Status checker at Houston says my decision has been mailed. How exciting :). I always like receiving decisions. Just wish some of my top choices would find it in their heart to show some love.

15/01/2008(1): Rejected at the Windy City school of Northwestern.

15/01/2008(2): Status checker at Vanderbilt says that my decision has been mailed out. I'm hoping the news is better then it was for Northwestern.

16/01/2008: Received rejection #3 this morning from Penn Law. Another top choice :(, though with my numbers, not surprising.

17/01/2008(1): Accepted at Houston, letter arrived today. Mentions that candidates for merit scholarships will receive a separate letter later.

17/01/2008(2): Decided to submit my withdrawal to Lewis & Clark, on account of the fact that I wasn't going to go there and it's not fair for me to hold someone's spot.

21/01/2008: Bad start to the week, though somewhat predictable. I received the inevitable rejection letter from NYU, can't say I wasn't expecting it, but it's still disappointing. In somewhat more surprising news, I received a waitlist from UCLA, I wasn't really expecting that. Ah well.

22/01/2008: Rejected from GMU, which is a bit surprising to say the least.

23/01/2008(1): Going to go ahead and update Vanderbilt to waitlisted based on the results I've seen on LSN, even though my official result hasn't arrived yet.

23/01/2008(2): Utah's Director of Admissions called. I'd say that's probably a good sign?

24/01/2008: Admitted to Utah. Scholarship decisions are made in March.

28/01/2008: Rejected at Harvard this morning, though the news did get better in the afternoon when I discovered that I was admitted to the University of Toronto :).

29/01/2008: Started the day on a disappointing foot, being rejected from Chicago and waitlisted at Colorado. I suspect I'll withdraw, since I wouldn't go without $.

30/01/2008(1): Officially waitlisted at Vanderbilt, which wasn't really a surprise.

30/01/2008(2): Email from Washington & Lee offering $11,000 a year, with information to follow. I called them to discuss it.

30/01/2008(3): Sent an email to Colorado officially withdrawing, after not receiving anything back on my previous email. Still need to write an LOCI for Vanderbilt if I'm going to stay on the waitlist, and UCLA. :: sigh ::.

01/02/2008(1): Received the acceptance package from Illinois, which helped their case somewhat. I decided to withdraw from Colorado, contemplating withdrawing from Houston and Utah.

01/02/2008(2): Just withdrew from Utah.

06/02/2008(1): Received a waitlist from GWU. Disappointing, I really thought I was competitive there. They're one of my top choices too, but without money I can't see me going.

06/02/2008(2): Withdrew from Washington & Lee and Houston.

07/02/2008: Received the bad news from Columbia. Heartbreak, though expected.

09/02/2008: Small victory today, at the expense of some good people. My numbers twins got dinged from Michigan (ED Defers -> Rejections). I managed to survive the first wave of ED rejections. I hold out hope that they'll find room for me in their Fall Class....

16/02/2008: Withdrew from the University of Miami, the University of Minnesota, Indiana University, George Washington University, Vanderbilt University, University of California in Los Angeles.

19/02/2008: Accepted at Western Ontario with $5,000 scholarship. How exciting :).

21/02/2008: Went decision at Duke online yesterday. I'm guessing ding.

06/03/2008: Picked up my mail today (didn't yesterday, but other then that have every day since going to decision). The news was expectedly bad, rejected from Duke.

10/03/2008: I went to decision at the University of Michigan. Scared, excited, anxious.....I hope I got in....

19/03/2008: Received my formal rejection letter in the mail from Michigan today. In other news, I also received my acceptance to the Indiana University, and financial aid assessment from the University of Toronto.

-=-=-=-

March 19th, 2008:
I have decided to enroll at the University of Toronto. Thank you to everyone who supported me throughout this process.

-=-=-=-

29/03/2008: Waitlisted at UVa. A little late now anyway. I'm not going to withdraw - but I highly doubt I'd go.

10/04/2008: Withdrew from the University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign.

24/04/2008: Received my rejection from Cornell. Ouchies, even though I've already decided I'm going to Toronto.

27/06/2008: Scholarship offer from W&L valued at just below full tuition ($35,000 a year, reducing tuition to $260), very tempting.

will get you nowhere. Your numbers, on the other hand, will get you into some good schools. Maybe when I hit up Ann Arbor we can try and get together for a beer?

I don't want to expect anymore rejection letters than I already am. Pessimist here. I was looking into more out of state schools that are in the t60-30....

How did you get notified about being complete at BU and GW? Just a heads up, NYU finally is reviewing apps, I got my comp. email today.

Monday, September 17 2007 at 08:00 PM

fortunately I have an addendum to all of my applications as I took the LSAT at a forward operating base while on mission cycle in Afghanistan, so I have a pretty good reason for not having a stellar LSAT score! U of Michigan is tops for me!

Looks like we have similar numbers- I also speak a foreign language fluently.. do you think that might work significantly towards admissions? :)

Very nice! It's pretty much my favorite non t14. Keep up the good work. You're rolling!

Deferral
Monday, September 17 2007 at 08:00 PM

I know it - I would have been more surprised to get an answer, honestly (I was even practicing my shocked face). Your deferred status still messed with my head first time I saw it though. It keeps popping to the top every time I search by decision date!

UIUC
Thursday, April 26 2007 at 08:00 PM

Any idea how long it took to go from 'In Review' to getting a decision? I just noticed I went to 'In Review' from 'Review Pending' today...and I'm getting anxious already.

hey
Saturday, November 17 2007 at 07:00 PM

noticed you're from canada too. what part?

wow
Friday, June 29 2007 at 08:00 PM

looks like you have some good news recently!!!

Mich
Monday, September 17 2007 at 08:00 PM

Well, if you look at our ballpark range from last year, it does look like deferred, accepted and WL, accepted were the most optimistic outcomes. So it's not impossible, it's just a long road. Keep up with the LOCIs and bask in your other acceptances in the meantime!

me
Saturday, November 17 2007 at 07:00 PM

I'm from Manitoba. And I added some "reachier" schools. Hope you're satisfied! I must admit I am intrigued by your URM status. I haven't seen too many with your background since I left Manitoba. Are you interested in aboriginal law at all? I think MN has some opportunities there.

Yay Lewis & Clark
Tuesday, October 02 2007 at 08:00 PM

Hey Pyke, I'm on the TLS boards. I finally sent my first app today... to L&S! I scanned for L&S admits and found your profile. Congrats on all the acceptances. I hope there's more to come. :)

MN
Saturday, November 17 2007 at 07:00 PM

i actually meant Minnesota by MN, not Manitoba. :) Manitobans actually get in-state tuition at Minnesota, too. Good luck from here on out.

good luck!
Monday, November 19 2007 at 07:00 PM

we have similar numbers and schools (and similar decisions so far...) best of luck to you this cycle!

Hey
Monday, November 26 2007 at 07:00 PM

Looks like we are applying to a few of the same schools. Good luck!

Top Choice
Monday, November 26 2007 at 07:00 PM

Which is your top choice?

hey
Tuesday, June 12 2007 at 08:00 PM

hey man what does it mean that we got deferred at cornell? is is the worst thing that could happen to you as an early applicant or they could have already rejected us? from which country are you from? do you think that being foreign is an handicap or a plus? take care let me know!

Complete at UCLA
Monday, November 26 2007 at 07:00 PM

how did UCLA let you know that your application was complete? They received my application three weeks ago and I have not had any contact with them whatsoever. Help.

Thanks
Monday, November 26 2007 at 07:00 PM

I am going to e-mail them if I don't here anything by Monday. Thanks a lot for your help. Glad to see that you are withdrawing from the schools that you don't want to attend. There are plenty of students that hold seats until late in the game and then end up creating unnecessary waiting for other students. I'm sure that you will get in the rest of the decisions within the next week or so.

Sorry
Monday, September 17 2007 at 08:00 PM

about your GMU rejection. I feel your pain but at least you fared better than I did at Minnesota! I think it was a fluke that they didn't accept you and I wouldn't stress too much!

wow
Sunday, July 22 2007 at 08:00 PM

Congratulations on all of your acceptances so far, and especially with your scholarship offers! You must be pretty excited about those. Any idea where you want to go yet? Also, I'm surprised you applied to UH and not UTexas....any reason why? Good luck on the rest of your cycle!

GLC
Saturday, January 05 2008 at 07:00 PM

Hey, just wanted to say congratulations on all your acceptances. I read your post on TLS about getting WL @ G-town--don't worry about it, you've got a ton of other great acceptances. Good luck with the rest of your apps.

Sure, I'll message you when I get the envelope. Hang in there!

withdrawals?
Saturday, January 05 2008 at 07:00 PM

Pyke, why'd you withdraw from Vandy, GW, UCLA? Why not just wait it out? Heck, it's free. BTW, I'm RATRATRAT on TLS.

.
Saturday, January 05 2008 at 07:00 PM

Well, why did you apply to all those American schools if you would only go to an American school if it was one of those 2 schools? I know you got fee waivers, but still, paying for reports for all those schools certainly wasn't cheap. What Canadian schools did you apply to?

Michigan...
Monday, November 05 2007 at 07:00 PM

I haven't heard anything from Carolina. I applied early and apparently they had some problems with LSAC so my application (and others) was not ready for review until mid- December. STILL don't know what is taking them so long. please keep me updated with your friend's progress!

Congrats on your decision to attend U of T. Best of luck man, I'm sure you'll do well.
