JOURNAL THING
---------------------
7/3/08: Received LSAT score! Huzzah!

7/10/08: I've decided to apply ED to GULC, meaning I probably won't send off apps to any of my safeties until the middle of December.

7/26/08: Visited GW and GULC. Didn't do anything official, just walked around, checked out facilities, spied on students in the library studying for finals, etc. Both were nice, but GULC definitely won the day.

9/20/08: Fee Waiver Roundup -- UMN, UIUC, Columbia, UVA, WUSTL, UCLA, among more boring ones. I'll only use the ones that are on my list of schools above.

9/23/08: Changed my mind again. I can't get over the idea that it's just really dumb for a person who doesn't want BigLaw to give up a chance at a free Top 20 law school education in the city where I want to work. George Washington Early Decision, here I come.

10/2/08: LSAC has processed my transcripts; GPA was exactly as I expected. *sigh* That was the last bastion of excuse for not feeling compelled to finish my damn Personal Statement. Guess I'd better kick it into high gear.

11/3/08: LSAC processed one of my letters today, so I should be VERY close to submitting all these now... *GULP*

11/12/08: Nine out of twelve applications are in. I still need to print and mail IU's application and get some Financial Aid info for Vanderbilt. Still, it feels good to finally call myself a law school applicant. Five schools (WUSTL, NYU, UIUC, GW, and UVA) requested the reports within an hour or so of me submitting them. Columbia requested the report this morning. I guess it's just a waiting game at this point.

11/13/08: Each of the nine schools I've submitted apps to has requested the LSDAS report, so that's nice. It's been sent off to all but W&L as of this afternoon. Virginia and Columbia were kind enough to give me access to their status checkers, so now I have a new addiction. Update: Oh God. Complete at WUSTL. Here we go.

11/17/08: I have a giant paper on Foucault due Friday, but all I can think about is the Virginia e-mail I just got saying I'm complete. Gah!

11/20/08: Complete at Washington and Lee.

11/21/08: Complete at UIUC. I also decided to apply to the University of Chicago today. Probably a waste of a hundred bucks, but... meh.

11/24/08: Complete at GW, although I should give them a call and double-check that they have me filed as an Early Decision applicant. Columbia still says "Completion Pending," so I should give them a call tomorrow too.

11/26/08: Complete at Columbia.

12/1/08: Big, thick envelope today from GW! Unfortunately, it just contained a promotional brochure. Wonderful.

12/2/08: Applied to Vanderbilt today. I did the W&L Online Chat today with admissions officers and current students, but didn't find it that helpful. It's probably more geared toward those less neurotic (i.e., "normal") applicants who aren't freaked out about their cycle 24/7. Hmm. Oh, and I'm complete at NYU.

12/4/08: Complete at UT today.

12/8/08: Sent off IU-B application today via snail mail to take advantage of the fee waiver. And that's the last one!

12/9/08: E-mailed GULC to ask whether I'm complete, and they let me know about their status checker (I'm such a dumbass). Apparently I was complete on November 18... and I went to decision yesterday. AAAAHHHH!!!!

12/11/08: Complete at Vandy today. I'm complete at all of my schools now except for IU-B. IU-B has requested my LSDAS report, but because I'm a cheap bastard I'm not going to buy the report until I hear from GULC (should be tomorrow or Monday). If GULC says yes, I probably won't shell out the 12 bucks for IU.

12/15/08: Preferred Waitlist letter from GULC. D'oh...

12/18/08: Small envelope with acceptance letter from Washington and Lee! Wait for it... waaaiiiitt foooorrr iiiiittt.... I'm going to law school!

1/9/09: In at WUSTL via e-mail! I'm very excited about this one!

1/12/09: In at UIUC via status checker.

1/13/09: Grades from Fall Semester are in, so I've updated the GPA. Cumulative increased from 3.03 to 3.11.

1/15/09: In at GW via e-mail! I didn't get the ED, but they let me in RD so I'm pretty psyched.

1/20/09: Scholarship letter from UIUC.

1/23/09: WL e-mail from Virginia. In with money at IU-B, but that's pretty much out of the question after the offer from UIUC.

1/30/09: Vanderbilt status checker says "Decision Mailed."

2/2/09: Small envelope from Columbia informing me that I'm "on reserve." Sounds like a waitlist to me, which is a lot better than I'd expected.

2/5/09: Waitlist at Vanderbilt. Hopefully I'll get a call in the spring from at least one of these schools.

2/13/09: Scholarship e-mail from W&L.

2/26/09: "Decision Mailed" at Chicago. I'm pessimistic.

3/2/09: Pessimism validated.

3/12/09: Scholarship e-mail from WUSTL. Not much, but I'll keep 'em in the running for now.

3/13/09: Rejected at Texas. Blegh. One to go... come on NYU!

3/25/09: Money at GW. Makes it a lot more competitive against UIUC.

4/17/09: Scholarship bump at UIUC.

4/23/09: Waitlist at NYU. That ends Round 1, I guess, although I'm not sure how much of a shot I have at getting off any of these. Plus, I'd really like to know sooner rather than later where I'm headed this fall. Looks like GW's in the number one slot for now.

4/24/09: Nice e-mail from Andy Cornblatt today. I'm in off the waitlist at GULC!

If you don't get into your ED school, good luck at UVA!!

Monday, January 07 2008 at 07:00 PM

I'm actually waiting on about six schools and I'll definitely post them as soon as I hear. I applied ED to one school but haven't heard anything yet, but it looks like they've barely given any decisions out. I didn't apply to NYU or Chicago though. Once again, good luck on your cycle, and I'm watching you too (not in a creepy way!)

Pretty good, actually. Better now that finals are over. Congrats on the W&L acceptance. It was my first one too I believe, and it's a good school with a beautiful campus. They'll probably toss you some money as well as Wash U, you should definitely consider both. Still, best of luck getting into your top choices, I'm sure you'll make it happen! Drop me a line if you have any Wash U questions.

Congrats on W&L! Good luck on the rest of your cycle!!! Hopefully, my recent withdrawals will open up some more splitter love. :)

We're almost numbers twins... good luck w/the rest of your cycle. Btw, what time of day did your UChicago status change approximately?

thanks!
Saturday, June 09 2007 at 08:00 PM

Thanks, I was just asking about time of day cuz some schools only update once for everyone around ~5pm, and others update each person as they get done throughout the day. Trying to figure out if my checking every 2-3 hours was futile. I am trying really hard to cut back on that.
