11/27 HLS phone interview from Toby Stock
12/06 Admitted to HLS via phone
12/06 NYU Letter is dated (rec'd significantly later, but no postmark). Folder with a couple of admissions letters, but no scholarship info. Georgetown (dated 12/19) also had a nice letter with a handwritten message, but no scholarship info. Maybe they send that later?
1/15 Rec'd Yale acceptance letter by mail, postmarked 1/12, dated 1/3.
3/1 Rec'd Cardozo Scholarship (full tuition + $5K/yr stipend, with 3.3 GPA requirement). I'm not going to take it, but I post it here for the benefit of those who are looking into such things.
3/28 Finally got into Penn (thank you), but I'm not going there.
4/2 $60K scholarship from Penn (full tuition first year, half second year). Too bad I'm withdrawing.

aches18- He asked me pretty much normal stuff; it sounded like it was partly standard across the board, and partly standard on getting you to talk. I have to say I probably talked a lot more than he did, and maybe a little more than I should have (although I did get in). If he interviewed you by phone a few weeks ago, I don't think you should lose hope of getting admitted to HLS. You can look at a thread at lawschooldiscussion.org called harvard phone interview where they go into great detail about this; I was a lurker there before my acceptance. No, I don't know anyone else who's applying to HLS. I guess they do it partially to get a sense of whether you're a nutcase, and partially to sell HLS and make you think they really care about you. With such a large class, bringing up yield numbers becomes significant. If you also had a 170 and were interviewed, you should be proud of yourself. I'm certain that you'll get into HLS or another fine school. -voojagig

thanks! - on my choice

vccs04- Thanks for the congrats! I was thrilled to hear it too. I spoke with a few people at my school about the HLS/YLS choice, and they all said that for my interests (which are on the theoretical/academic side), Yale is the best option, and doesn't close any doors either. I'm still keeping my options on the table, and I'm going to visit Yale, Harvard, and either NYU or Columbia (provided that CLS admits me, and that NYU offers me some kind of scholarship).

is your secret? I'm jealous!

My secret?

sarahbell127- You should watch Orson Welles' "Mr. Arkadin" (also called "Confidential Report). The opening quote reads: “a certain great and powerful king once asked a poet ‘what can i give you of all that i have?’ he wisely replied ‘anything sir ... except your secret.’” Well, I don't really have any secret. I always took my studies seriously and interacted with my professors (and probably got great recommendations).

Congrats on your admissions successeus so far. I hope they let me in! I still haven't heard from them, so I'm starting to get worried. I hope things are going well with you otherwise

My whole page isn't a lie, and neither is the date I was accepted to Y. Maybe the admisisons office was mistaken when you called.

wow!

Wow - what a sweep! Congrats on all your acceptances! I'm impressed, but I can't say I'm surprised. If I remember our freshman seminar correctly, you had a pretty good handle on constitutional law, even back then.

to you as well. I have to admit, I was one of the people who thought your profile was fake for a while. (I think you had one of your acceptance dates listed incorrectly?) But eventually I concluded it was legit. And that was very reassuring, given my own numbers! I hope Germany is treating you well.

just to clarify

These are the first times I've commented on this profile. I was NOT the anonymous poster who called your page a "lie." I'm more polite than that. Generally.

Furman?

Did they tell you when you got the Furman notification if they had notified all finalists?

Annieg -- Thanks for the note of congratulations. I never thought it was you who called my page into question (and I didn't really care, since the poster seems to have put the same message on all YLS acceptees before a certain date). Kstoia-- They didn't say anything specifically about whether all accplicants had been notified, but I got the sense that they had. If you're uncertain, you might consider dropping them a line. I think it's bad form to reject someonee's application for anything by just not responding to it (this actually happened to a friend of mine at some prestigious medical institutions), but it seems to be about par for the course these days. I wish you the best of luck in your admissions cycle.

how did they let you know? phone call? email?

Penn
Sunday, November 19 2006 at 07:00 PM

Penn sent me a huge folder. The scholarship offer came later, via email. The scholarship was the Silverman-Rodin, by the way: "ull tuition scholarship for the first year of law school and half tuition for the second year of law school". I assume they could top it off with some more merit aid or need-based for the 3rd year, but I guess they're counting on your getting a 2L summer firm job.
