I've considered waiting another year, re-taking the LSAT and trying to get into some other schools that I am interested in attending. Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated! Also, does anyone have any info (good or bad) about Testmasters prep course? I registered in 2005 for their full-length course and it was canceled the day before it was to begin. I have heard both good and bad.

Scholarship amounts are three year totals.

(04/16/07) Called Syracuse and found out that I am in!!!! This is a big acceptance for me. Barring anything crazy happening - like Alabama, GSU, or Cumberland offering me a spot - I will be heading up North to Syracuse!

(04/13/07) Waitlisted at Cumberland; I will remain on this one for a little while.

(04/11/07) I called and spoke with several admission offices today (Syracuse, Cumberland, and Hofstra) all have confirmed that my application is in review and that I should hear something very shortly.

(04/03/07) Quinnipiac threw me on the waitlist. Don't they know who I think I am?

(04/03/07) Withdrew from Arkansas. I left a message for the assistant director of admission. I let him know that I did not appreciate the tone of the letter I received, after having spoken with Associate Dean, Miller, who was very positive about my chances of getting in. I'm sure he had a laugh at my expense.

(03/30/07) The University of Tennessee said "oh hells no!" Notice arrived at my permanent address, which happens to be different from my present address. This makes me very much more unsure about my reaches.

(03/26/07) Contacted Cumberland ... they still haven't reviewed my file b/c it was Spring Break last week.

(03/26/07) Received an e-mail from Hofstra confirming that my application was complete. I thought that it had been complete!

(03/22/07) Today, I received a letter from Associate Dean, James Miller, from Arkansas Law. The letter seemed to be written in an attempt to get me to withdraw my application. The letter cited that my index was not high enough for them to offer me admission; and that, due to the fact that I was not an Arkansas resident, I would probably not get accepted. It was strange because, if you don' want to offer a candidate admission, why not just deny them? I think that if you are below the index, they want to see how badly you really want to go to Arkansas. They basically gave me one week to return a "different" personal statement and a current resume'. If anyone else has received a letter from Arkansas similar to the one I described, please let me know. Thanks.

(03/22/07) Today I received a phone call from Dean Johnson offering admission and an $18K/ yr. merit scholarship. High-Five.

(03/20/07) I contacted Cumberland today to inquire about the status of my application file; they told me it would be a couple more weeks before I hear anything ... they said that two weeks ago!

(03/20/07) Apparently at some schools if you don't call and make sure that your file is complete, it will just sit there. At one school, my application has been complete for a while; however, when I called and double-checked my status they had no idea whether or not it was complete. Finally they figured out that it was ... now I have to wait four to six MORE weeks for a decision ... not happy.

(3/19/07) Called Florida Coastal and spoke with Admission advisor; accepted with $10,000 per year scholarship.

(3/17/07) Received a letter from Hofstra informing me that there would be a new dean at the LS.

(03/14/07) Received solicitation from Florida Coastal and responded the following day. I spoke with Steve Jones at FCSL and he informed me that I would be accepted with a scholarship without any review. He said that letter should be mailed out by 03/19/07.

Don't know too much. I know Springfield is a bit of a rough area. I heard the school was nice, but have yet to visit. They are low on my list, although with a 149, I am not in a place to be too picky. Still, they are 9/10 on my top choice list

no one ever writes on my page so thanks. im really holding out for tulane or alabama, but looking at the others who have applied to bama, i dont think i will be accepted. did you hear that they are cutting their 1L class this fall by 100 people? I think that knocks me right out. Good luck to you.

  • Friday, March 16 2007 at 06:39 AM

Arkansas would be nice...I've got a few friends at UAB and a couple at Mississippi College too. Although, since I'm out of state my chances are not that great. Realistically, probably Vermont or NESL. I've been trying not to choose and just see where I'm accepted first. Any idea what kind of law you're interested in?

I thought and thought about it, but in the end decided not to. I had already sent 12 applications and decided that was enough. Not to mention it was the most expensive school on my list and I don't think I could handle all that lake effect snow. Did you?

  • Friday, March 16 2007 at 07:25 AM

i was not on mock trial. i was asked several times by the advisor to join because i took all of his classes (he was pre-law advisor as well) but was very active in my sorority and their meeting nights were the same night as my chapter meetings. where did you go to school? maybe we will get into UA. i didnt really have anything incredibly amazing to write about in my PS so i dont thiink im anything special to them. you might and that might very well be the thing that send you over to the acceptance side. ill keep my fingers crossed for you!

i completely agree with you. i didnt realize that they had accepted that many people in 06! makes me more and more scared. you really should have applied to tulane. i think that since they are a private school they arent as rigid re: numbers like alabama has become. my dad went to bama for law school so it will be doubly disappointing to have to tell him if and when i get rejected. the more and more i think about it, the less likely i feel i will get in--but then again, the waiting really does that to me. its so killer! if you go to cumberland, you will love it though. i know many people there. plus, its in bham, so its a great town! im sure with your extracurriculars and involvement, you will get into cumberland. i really hope im wrong about bama cutting their class because we could still get in. lets hope im completely wrong!

my numbers arent much higher than yours so we are practically in the same boat. im really doubting acceptance for me, but its good to hear that you think i might get in. ill let you know if that miracle happens. ive been calling tulane and they know me by name now. im prolly annoying the hell out of them, but heck, i gotta know this stuff! they still havent even reviewed my application yet! its almost april! anyway, you would have definitely gotten in at LSU with a scholarship. well, its not over til the fat lady sings, i guess. fingers crossed!

I am going to visit MSU this weekend, so they are high on my list. I also applied to the part-time program at Denver. I visited Drake, William Mitchell, and Hamline last week and liked all of them. As you can see I have no idea where I will end up! It will depend how the waitlists turn out. I am sure with your numbers you will be very competitive at the schools on your list!

I think I may go visit in a couple of weeks, April 1-3 I think. I've heard good things about their facilities. They want a seat deposit by April 15 and I'd like to check it out before then and maybe buy myself some time to hear from a couple other schools. I'd prefer somewhere more established but living on the Florida coast for 3 years would be nice! Anyway, 1-1 so far...keeping my fingers crossed for Vermont, Valpo, Arkansas, and NESL. Hope you get some good news from FCSL this week...let me know!

No kidding - how does Indiana-Bloomington give me $$$, and Valpo WL me? You should consider waiting a year, re-taking the LSAT, and getting your apps in earlier. If you can get that into the 160 range, and get your apps out in December, you'd definitely give yourself a better shot (not that you don't have a shot now...). Good Luck!

Sorry to hear about NESL...oh well. I haven't heard anything from Arkansas...I saw where they requested my report from LSDAS but thats it. That seems kind of interesting that they would send out a letter like that, especially since they don't see anything but numbers unless they request your personal statement. Let me know what else you hear. BTW, I'd definitely choose 3 years at the beach over 3 years of snow also.

  • Saturday, March 24 2007 at 10:11 AM

The first time I took the LSAT was completely cold...I'd looked at a test or two but nothing too serious. I took a Kaplan course this summer and it helped a lot, probably in just forcing me to study. The most important thing they taught me, and the info that really helped me the most, is that there are four wrong answers and one right one. Thinking about it like that really helped me. Good luck!

  • Friday, April 06 2007 at 10:33 AM

It seems like that's the case in some circumstances (maybe most). All of the attorneys in my office came from families who paid for them to go to college. None of them worked through undergrad, and they did not have to work while studying for the LSAT. Being an attorney is actually some of the assocaites and partners first "real job." Additionally, their parents also paid for tutors and prep courses. I'm not sure if that is indicative of anything, but it is nonetheless material for an interesting perspective. However, this does not explain those who are just damn good test takers, or that are good with the material asked on the LSAT. It just busts my ass sometimes when an attorney can't understand concepts like why an engine needs oil...

Hey, thanks for the congrats. I am actually seriously considering Syracuse. It has great name recognition and a lot of good joint jd-masters programs. I am actually going up there tomorrow to visit. I am waiting to hear from Villanova (my first choice), so unless they accept me, I will most likely be going there. I think you have a good chance of getting in, considering your LSAT is in their median range. Good luck!

Yes, Blueprint is an in-class course. They offer an extensive course that lasts over 2 months (2-3 times a week for 4 hours per time), and they also offer compacted weekends only version. I haven't taken a 2nd practice yet so I can't tell you exactly how much I've improved, but after only 2 weeks of the course I'm already able to easily answer a lot of question types that I had trouble with on the first test.

The admissions office is actually really accomodating, so if you wanted to visit, I am sure you could work something out with them. I am not sure if they reimburse for travel, but when I went up for the Admitted Students Program, they put me up in a hotel (as they do with everyone outside of a 150 mile radius of the campus). I would give them a call, the staff was really, really nice. I am STILL waiting to hear from my first choice/reach school, Villanova, but if I don't get in there, I am definitely going to SU. The admissions office was nice enough to give me an extension for the deposit deadline until April 27, so I am waiting until then or until I find out about Villanova.

Hey Jawrady. Thanks on the congratulations! I am really considering Syracuse now that they have offered me the Alumni Scholarship ($41,000 is a ton of $). To answer your questions, no I did not apply early in the cycle. I submitted my application on 3/9 and it was completed just before the 4/1 deadline (I was admitted on 4/9). However, I did not recieve any mention of the scholarship with my acceptance letter (I have since recieved the award notification, mailed on 4/16). I first found out about the scholarship by looking at the "my slice" syracuse website that summarizes financial aid. They sent me an email with login info before I recieved my acceptance letter. Without diminishing the hardwork I have put it, I think I was pretty lucky on that scholarship as my numbers are only about the average at SU. I definitely think my "soft factors" and my LOR's helped me out big time. Have you visited SU? My sister in-law is in a Ph.D program there right now, but I haven't visisted. I am interested in hearing what you think of the school.

I want to go into an area of law that doesn't pay particularly well and they don't have an LRAP or anything like that.
