Additional info & updates

I've now withdrawn from every waitlist (you're welcome). PENN LAW '09!

$27,000 over 3 years from Penn in need-based grants

1/17/06 - Received an email from Michigan saying that my application has been reviewed, and that they're sorry it's taking so long to make a decision, i.e. a deferral. Not exactly what I expected considering I'm a Michigan resident with a fee waiver.

1/18/06 - Received small white envelope from Georgetown at current address. Says I'm on the "preferred waiting list." Pretty disappointing.

1/26/06 - I'm finally in a law school. Received small white envelope from Vanderbilt at current address. Says that scholarship awards will be determined in February.

2/1/06 - Received email from Northwestern informing me my decision could be obtained online. Obviously, another disappointing update.

2/2/06 - Received small cream envelope from Columbia at current address. Not unexpected.

2/4/06 - Received small white envelope from Chicago at current address. Says I'm on "hold" and encourages me to write an additional essay. Considering I was hoping for a waitlist here, I'm very excited.

2/11/06 - Received small white envelope from Harvard at current address.

2/23/06 - Sent additional essay, updated transcript and cover letter to Chicago.

2/28/06 - Called Chicago to make sure they had received my essay and transcript, which they had. Was also told that they do not know when files on hold will be reviewed again.

3/1/06 - Received an e-mail from Penn.

3/3/06 - Received an e-mail from Michigan. Pretty shocked.

3/6/06 - Received a letter from Vanderbilt stating I have been offered a Dean's Scholarship ($18k/yr).

3/23/06 - Received an e-mail from Virginia saying I'm on the general, out-of-state waitlist. Will not be accepting the position.

4/11/06 - Received small white envelope at current address from NYU. Only one more to go...

4/28/06 - Received an e-mail from Chicago saying I should have received notification that I had been placed on the waitlist, but this was the first I had heard of it.

5/10/06 - Received an e-mail from Georgetown confirming that I wish to remain on the waitlist.

5/22/06 - Received a phone call from Penn confirming that I would want to attend in the fall, said that my file will be recommended to the dean of admissions and I'll hear from them in the next couple days! In total shock right now.

5/23/06 - Received another call from Penn confirming my acceptance. Unless I get a miraculous acceptance from Chicago in the next couple days, I'll be at Penn this fall.

5/27/06 - Haven't heard back from Chicago, so Penn it is.

GBL 395? Yea, I thought it might be you. Looks like you ended up kicking the LSAT's ass. Good for you! Good luck with the IVY apps. I doubt you'll need any luck for the rest. I... am heading back to CA, and for a second tier with little doubt.

I bet you we know each other. Both MSU Seniors that have taken a bunch of GRM classes. And we're numbers twins! Best of luck!

are you going to withdraw, or stick out the waitlist? congrats on Vandy -- that's a solid option if none of the others pan out.

just saying

I'd be very shocked if UVA didn't admit you, given your numbers. That said, I'm already shocked that you didn't get into GTown, Northwestern, or Michigan. Honestly, I think you'll be getting into a couple of the schools that waitlisted you. Good luck,

Vandy $$

Congrats! I'm shocked your cycle is going how it is, but having Vandy in the background with a nice scholarship to boot is awesome. I know you'll get in off some waitlists, but even if not you're set!

wow

i can't believe your cycle went like it did! you have solid numbers and ECs... sorry, man. :o( vandy is still a great school, tho.

I would've been surprised a few months ago, but after the way my other apps have gone it was predictable. At least the agony is almost over.

Not sure
Tuesday, September 06 2005 at 08:00 PM

No, I don't have an arrest record. Only thing I can think of is it's tough for a non-URM with no work experience and good but not spectacular numbers to stand out.

RE: 2 cents
Tuesday, September 06 2005 at 08:00 PM

I didn't apply to Cornell or Duke because I was advised that if I got in to one of them I'd also get in to Georgetown, and if I'd rather go to just Georgetown then just apply there (turned out to be poor advice). Also, I ruled out Boalt because I wanted to stay in the eastern half of the country.
