Extra Curricular Information

A few clubs in college. Nothing since, and I've been out of school 7-8 years.

Have a few years of work exp in supply chain management. .

No real soft factors, and my GPA sucks, so I'm assuming my LSAT saved me. I also tried to write a damn good personal statement and diversity statement, and I think my 3 letters of rec were strong.

Additional info & updates

Sent in apps to DePaul and Northern (my undergrad school) in early Sept.

11/13 - Got a call from the Dean of Admissions at Northern confirming my acceptance and that scholarship info will be sent out separately. Most likely will get a full ride.
That same evening, had a big envelope from DePaul!! $20k/year scholarship, provided I maintain a 3.3 GPA.

12/18 - confirmed my full ride with NIU, plus a monthly stipend.

12/24: Thick small envelope from John Marshall, offering me a full ride with the condition that I stay in the top 20% of my class.

I seriously feel so lucky and blessed to have these options. As a mom, I could never work for those big firms where you work long hours. Having minimal debt when I graduate is a necessity for me. I feel so fortunate to have two schools waive tuition and a 3rd give me a significant scholarship.

1/23 - phone call from Dean of Admissions at Loyola. Very nice call.

2/7 - In an Kent via e-mail from the dean; acceptance letter should be coming soon.

5 for 5 - someone please tell me where to go to school! LOL!

I wish I knew. Congrats on your acceptance though! Mind if I ask why you aren't applying to Northwestern or Kent or U Chicago for that matter? Your LSAT might be a bit low for Northwestern and Chicago but Northwestern really values work experience.

Thanks for your optimism. I hope you're right! Oh I see what you mean about the GPA and money, though NW is notorious for forgiving a weaker GPA for work exp

i agree, it seems you should try for a couple of schools a little higher ranked with your LSAT and work experience... gL with cycle!

Depaul notice?
Monday, June 16 2008 at 08:00 PM

Hi, I was wondering if DePaul sent you an email saying that your application was complete? I sent mine on 10/02 and they haven't sent me any sort of notification. I've tried calling but their phone lines are always busy. Thanks! Justine P.S. You will be getting that John Marshall letter any day now :)

thanks!

i'm thinking specifically UIUC, Kent, IU-Bloomington, others... the key would be to make your work experience sound amazing, and to downplay your UGPA... then i think you'd definitely have a good shot at breaking the t-40.

First and foremost, Congrats on your acceptance and scholarship. Which school is your first choice? Also may I ask (if you don't mind) your ethnic background? And if you care to share about how did you play up your diversity statement and personal statement.

One more thing, Do you say that the pool is going to be huge because of the bad economy, (you know everyone is losing their jobs and now going back to school)?

Sunday, October 26 2008 at 08:00 PM

Congrats to you too on DePaul. And congrats on Northern! That's great!

Thank you!
Thursday, July 31 2008 at 08:00 PM

Loyola/JM
Sunday, October 26 2008 at 08:00 PM

Thanks for the Congrats! I found out about Loyola via phone. I received an email about 2 weeks ago telling me they weren't even going to look at apps til after the holidays, so I was very (pleasantly!) surprised to get the call. And I got a big envelope from JM via snail mail. Good luck with the rest of your cycle! :)

Hey, I submitted my app in early to mid October and received the decision via e-mail. Good luck!

Hey I'm from Chicago, and I see you're applying to a lot of schools there. I don't blame you. I would love to go back home for school. What are your top choices?

Re: Question About JMLS

You're correct - I received $10,000/yr for living expenses. Congrats on your scholarship offer!

Kent

The deferment/waitlist on my Kent application was definitely sobering. I'm hoping for the best, though (in addition to writing some rockin' LOICs). Anyway, good luck with the rest of your applications!

Great Cycle
Monday, November 24 2008 at 07:00 PM

Hey I posted a reply to your question on my wall. Congrats on the great cycle. You've got some really great options. Its refreshing to see that you'll be able to find the kind of job you want debt free (or close to it). Best of luck to you and your family!

Kent
Thursday, February 19 2009 at 07:00 PM

First, congrats on your cycle! I'm still waiting for a bunch of decisions, but Kent does look appealing at the moment, for a variety of reasons. Will you be going to the admitted students' weekend? Will be my first time in Chicago.=)

Hi
Sunday, March 08 2009 at 08:00 PM

Hi- sorry I didn't see your message until today, but yeah, as of now we're the only two on here attending Kent in the fall. I hope more people show up in the fall! Have you attended any of the dean's programs at Kent? I'm looking at going up to Chicago soon and wondering what they're like.

congrats
