Additional info & updates

I am applying for the 2009-2010 cycle. Currently, taking some economics and finance classes while working as an assistant for a CPA firm in Los Angeles. Good luck to all those applying this year.

Received email from Josh Rubenstein on Monday. Scheduled phone interview for 11/18 because of work schedule.

11/18 I had my "JR1" interview. It was only about 10 minutes long. He asked some questions about my work experience and ECs. I am guessing the "JR1" is just a formality.

11/23-- Received "JR2" email and acceptance.

12/02-- Admitted to Berkeley via phone call. This is the place I want to be. I will see what they offer in terms of scholarships. All the other applications are just a formality. I don't really care about HYS bull crap. I can't stand cold weather.

12/07-- Received a big fat purple envelope from NYU. I guess they are hoping your decision to attend their school will be decided by the envelope. Anyone want my slot? I have no interest in attending this university.

12/07-- Same day I was accepted; I officially withdrew my application. I hope a much needier soul gets the slot. I don't think I can live another cold three years in New York State. I admire those who can.

12/11-- Received voicemail stating acceptance into Stanford.

12/14-- After work, I checked my voicemail and received notification about acceptance into UPenn. This school may be interesting because of faculty members Howard Chang and Shyamkrishna Balganesh.

1/06- Received email stating acceptance to Yale Law School from the Dean of Admissions.

1/25-- Notified through mail with a full-ride to Columbia (Hamilton). Not bad.

1/29-- I am officially withdrawing from Harvard, Yale, Duke, and UPenn. The only reason I will keep Columbia is to use the Hamilton scholarship to negotiate financial aid with Berkeley/Stanford.

Where the hell are all the other smart Indians? Damn!

URM

Hey there. I am conflicted on this issue, being a URM with decent stats, but do you intend to apply AS a URM? Why or why not?

Saturday, June 13 2009 at 08:00 PM

Great! Thanks for letting me know!

Saturday, June 13 2009 at 08:00 PM

Thanks for the advice! I shall remember. Now I only wonder if they (Stanford & Yale and perhaps HLS) would look favorably on the CFA...

Thursday, August 06 2009 at 08:00 PM

Thank you for the advice. Right now I'm just working on the bits I found hardest last time. Out of curiosity do Indians count as UNDER-represented minorities in the law school applicant pool?

Tuesday, June 16 2009 at 08:00 PM

Hey, thanks for the info! Have you started writing your 250 essay? (Please don't say you already finished it). We have similar numbers, though you have very unique soft (or gift, i'd rather say) :) Good luck on your cycle!

Thursday, August 20 2009 at 08:00 PM

Interesting . . . one of my high school / college friends graduated from Cornell Law and she had a great time. Ideally, though, I'd like to go to YSH or even Columbia or NYU. That's my ultimate goal . . . and yeah, I think there are other schools that I'd pick over cornell. I don't mind it as a backup, though. Kal Berkeley is your first choice?

fart on command
Thursday, August 06 2009 at 08:00 PM

Nice talent. It's funny, I'm undecided about applying to Cornell and your comment on Kuroi's profile has added to the reservations I already have about Cornell. I don't think I would appreciate the transition from busy Cal to the middle of nowhere. Looks like you're going to have a great cycle.

Sunday, January 04 2009 at 07:00 PM

Hey man, Well I'd love to get into Harvard but I know 'tis a long shot. Anyway I'd be supremely happy with NYU or Chicago showing me some love!:) Are you an American citizen or do you fall under the "international applicant" category? Good luck with the applications! I am now in the waiting zone....

Sunday, January 04 2009 at 07:00 PM

Well I don't plan to take the LSAT again as I'm not entirely confident of doing much better than a 174. Just hoping the cycle goes well with my current stats. All applications are now in, so all that's left to do is wait and see. Good luck with your cycle as well, really impressive numbers!

Other Indians
Sunday, January 04 2009 at 07:00 PM

Nope, no others that I know of. Actually international applicants to law school are very few in general. I guess there might be others like you though (American-Indians). Btw, I agree completely with the fact that your scores are pretty unbeatable. Just hoping really hard that my lack of a GPA isnt held against me and some of the top 10 send me admits!

GPA Difference
Sunday, January 04 2009 at 07:00 PM

Well, LSDAS didnt give me a GPA as I'm an international application. They just rated my transcript as "Very Good" and gave me a "B-plus" grade average. However using the conversion table they provided in the report, I calculated my GPA to be around 3.6. WES (a reputed credential evaluation agency) determined my GPA to be 3.81 through their evaluation, which I attached with all my applications. Hence the ambiguity in my cycle, as I don't know how adcomms are going to view my undergraduate performance.

Additional Schools
Sunday, January 04 2009 at 07:00 PM

Thanks for the advice! Actually there's a reason I'm sticking to schools on the East Coast. My wife is applying for MBA programS and we want to be close by, if not in the same city. The choice of schools resulted from a calculation of where we both thought we had a good chance of admission. In any case, I added Virginia, Duke and Fordham to the list. Hopefully now I've covered my bases well enough! Haven't got a JR1 invite from Harvard as yet, so things are not looking good in that regard.

Thanks!
Sunday, January 04 2009 at 07:00 PM

I'm really thrilled with the start of my cycle, the last few months have been nerve-wracking! :)

good lsat score
Sunday, October 18 2009 at 08:00 PM

hey great lsat score, when did you get that lsat score, i mean which test was it and in which year? Just curious, and you are a shoe-in at Yale, I don't think I have ever said that before!

Sunday, January 04 2009 at 07:00 PM

Thanks again! Yeah good to at least know for sure that I'll be in law school next year. Harvard prospects are looking grim though as I applied in late September and many who applied after me have already gotten their JR1 invites. Including you btw, congrats on that!! Am sure you're a shoo in for Harvard, so best of luck with the interview.

thanks
Wednesday, September 09 2009 at 08:00 PM

thanks, you too! good luck.

JR1
Sunday, January 04 2009 at 07:00 PM

Sounds like your interview went well....good stuff!! You're probably gonna be in the round of acceptances they roll out next week. Harvard hopes for me on the other hand, are likely dead! :(

Congrats!
Sunday, January 04 2009 at 07:00 PM

On Harvard!! I knew you'd make it.....how does it feel? :)

Tuesday, November 03 2009 at 07:00 PM

no, im Chinese

Congrats
Friday, February 20 2009 at 07:00 PM

on Berkeley! that's really impressive numbers you've got there. Are you considering Cal over Harvard?

Congrats!
Sunday, January 04 2009 at 07:00 PM

On Berkeley! Really great stuff!! Yeah I'm not brooding over Cornell, they're trying to get me to demonstrate my love for them through additional application materials which I have no inclination for. Anyway I have one of my top choices in the bag already (Michigan) and keenly waiting for NYU and Chicago to give me some good news. That would really make for a perfect cycle!

NYU Slot
Sunday, September 13 2009 at 08:00 PM

I'll take that slot. Thank you for the kind offer.

Congrats to you too!
Tuesday, June 16 2009 at 08:00 PM

You comment on NYU envelope made me LOL. I haven't received one yet, but can't wait to see how big, fat and impressive that evenlope is. Anyway, congrats on your amazing acceptances. Seems like you've already made your decision.

Boalt
Thursday, August 06 2009 at 08:00 PM

Congrats man! I'd kill for your Harvard slot haha but I can see why you would want to go to boalt. Weird though, it's like 40 degrees here this week because of some arctic wind wave, I don't remember the last time it was this cold. But congrats again haha

Tuesday, November 10 2009 at 07:00 PM

Yes, it was called managerial econ at my UG. Enjoy Boalt (or Stanford.) I'm with you on the weather - I was raised in the tropics, even So. Cal gets a little too cold sometimes...

re: your question.
Tuesday, March 24 2009 at 08:00 PM

Yes. Other Indians did score > 170. ;)

Jealous
Friday, November 06 2009 at 07:00 PM

Hey I'm so jealous that you got into Stanford already. I really want to go to California and after getting into Berkeley, I now have my eyes set on Stanford. Congrats on the acceptance! Btw, let's go Red!

Other Smart Indians!
Sunday, December 13 2009 at 07:00 PM

Hey I got higher than a 170 too and got into similar schools! Don't be so doubtful...

Congrats on Yale
Wednesday, November 11 2009 at 07:00 PM

Congrats on Yale! I'm so jealous!

Thursday, June 04 2009 at 08:00 PM

congrats on yale man! you did it. i'm graduating this year, and would really welcome your advice on what fellowship to go with for my gap year (since you did americorps).

Yale!!
Sunday, January 04 2009 at 07:00 PM

Woah....congrats!! Now you have a pretty incredible choice to make ahead of you!

Thanks Ankit
Saturday, August 01 2009 at 08:00 PM

Thanks Ankit. I would write on your wall, but I can't find you on law school numbers. Did you receive any other admissions decisions?

Tuesday, April 21 2009 at 08:00 PM

I am not sure how you got the impression I am from India. I am a US engineer, we do exist!

Sunday, December 13 2009 at 07:00 PM

crossing my fingers...getting nervous since more and more people keep hearing back from yale but not me :/

Thursday, June 11 2009 at 08:00 PM

Hey buddy, congrats on all the acceptances. I also graduated from Cornell, class of 08, maybe our paths have crossed at one point or another. I wish I weren't gearing up for finance/corporate law, then I could roll the dice and maybe head somewhere warm like Berkeley as well. I visited in October, the new Boalt Hall will look amazing after the renovations are done, and Berkeley's campus was gorgeous. You are going to have such a blast there, kudos on not walking the HYS path, I don't know if I could've done that if I had the option. Best of luck this fall!

Congrats
Saturday, December 05 2009 at 07:00 PM

Congrats on Yale.

Monday, October 20 2008 at 08:00 PM

Major congrats on your awesome cycle. Any thoughts on where you're going to end up?

Monday, October 20 2008 at 08:00 PM

Unfortunately, there is a severe lack of talent in that department, haha.

Congrats!
Wednesday, February 24 2010 at 07:00 PM

You should get an award for Best Cycle EVER.

A hat tip to you, sir
