Additional info & updates

FYI: Scholarships are for three years.

I want to go to an area where I'll be comfortable. Also willing to go to a lower ranked school in order to receive some financial aid.

I'm applying to a lot of schools via fee waivers just to see what may happen.
**************************************************
Have finished a large portion of the schools I plan to apply to, i'll continue to do apps from time to time that aren't out yet.

3-17: Off the waitlist at UBalt. Nice feeling; but not to serious about them. Would like to get off the waitlist at NCCU; I'd have to seriously consider that one if it came to that.

3-6: Waitlisted at Campbell, which isn't a shocker since it took soon long for an answer. I now have all my options, just have to make a decision. I'm 80% sure it'll be Regent though.

3-3: App at Campbell has been under review since 2-25, they must move at their own pace. I hope to spend this week looking alot harder at these schools and make a choice, so any advice would be amazing.

2-24: Letter from Dayton worth 15k a year. Nice offer from a nice school; but their location never gave them a strong chance. I just wanted to apply to a Catholic school, had it been for more money I may have considered, but it was a nice offer.

2-23: 20k a year at Elon, I guess i'm going to have to think alittle harder about this one.

2-20: In at Elon, but no news of scholarship money or if any is coming. They did send me a nice coffee mug though. Still waiting on Campbell, but Dayton is suppose to mail my scholarship information and i'll know within a day or two. Visited Regent, amazing campus and the nicest people I've ever met on a college campus. I thought the waiting for an answer thing was hard, now I'm having trouble where to go.

1-6: Almost all over with. Still pending at both Elon and Campbell, but both of them are going to need to get some solid aid to make it work. I'm about to start withdrawing apps, I think I've narrowed it to three so far. Widener, (enough aid, plus alot of family in Philly) Appalachian, (not that interested, but I have to consider the full ride) and Regent (close to home and nice campus, but I wanted alittle more aid than 25%.) Will update these last couple for people still waiting and people who look for next year. Will also try to give alittle more information in a few months so that people next year have a better idea of the entire profile when judging reaches and safeties.

12-27: In at Dayton law. The package said financial aid information would be following shortly and I am being considered for the President's scholarship. Looks like it's getting to the point where I've really got to start making some choices. Any advice about how to go about this next step would be great.

12-18 to 12-22: Alot of information has come in the past week and I've been busy with the holidays. Regent e-mailed me to inform me I received $6,000 a year. I also am eligible for a 25% scholarship, which is $6,700 but I have to forfeit the other $6,000, think I'll take the latter. I also got into Appalachian, the next day another letter came saying I was awarded the Trustee Scholarship for full tuition. Finally, Regent's ACLJ lead attorney mailed me an autograph copy of his new book, started reading it yesterday and found it pretty interesting. It's crazy I'm almost done and it's still before Christmas

12-15: Mail came to my permanent address, but not my local address that I was accepted into Widener with $14,000 a year scholarship. I have alot of family in the area so it's a nice choice, hope to look over the information this weekend. Also, informed at Regent that my financial aid information will most likely not be completed until after the first of the year.

12-9: E-mail, in at Regent. Very very happy. Plan to take part in their online discussion tonight and look forward to seeing scholarship information. Regardless, exciting day for me.

12-5 & 12-6: Two small envelopes, one on Friday, one on Saturday. First was from Charlotte law, not my top choice, but I want to be either in VA or NC, so now I can be. The other was from UBalt, I applied there on a whim, didn't work out. The letter says they'll be reviewing my application again and should hear back in January, I'm not overly interested though. Really want to hear back from Regent and Elon.

11-29: Package from FCSL with $10,000 a year. Not my top choice, but I like it more than Cooley.

11-24: Sent an app to Appalachian School of Law, they're doing a thanksgiving fee waiver, so if you read this before then, check their website. Rumor on the street is FL Coastal sent letters today, which is exciting because I want to see what my scholarship is, but i'm still waiting out my top choices and it's starting to drive me crazy.

11-18 Nothing new, found out Regent will not be reviewing apps until January which is no fun. I'm looking for a few more schools with app waivers to apply to, anyone know of schools that are easy to get a fee waiver from?

11-7 All quiet on the Western Front. Going to send an e-mail to Regent later next week to see if the letter from my Priest arrived. They're high on my list for being in my home town plus I have a 25% tuition reduction and it seems like my kind of school to begin with. So i've got my fingers crossed. I am expecting replies soon or I'm going to lose it.

10-31 Waitlisted at NCCU, which the letter made it sound like rejected. Regardless, sucks big time since I felt like my numbers were perfect. Whatever, I liked Campbell more anyways.

10-27 Waiting game is far too long. Suppose to have an idea from Balt and Charlotte within the week. Still waiting for Elon. Widener has lost parts of my application, but they don't know what yet, they just know it's something. So hopefully I can get that fixed during the week.

10-17 E-mailed Florida Coastal to make sure my application was complete and when acceptances were going out. I was told that I was complete and my acceptance letter and scholarship would be mailed out in the 1st batch in November

10-14 Got mail from Florida Coastal to inform me my application was being considered. Thought I might have had my 2nd acceptance letter of the year but no dice. For those who applied last year to any of the schools I applied to, when should I be looking at getting a reply?

9-3 Large envolope from Cooley saying I was in with 50%, good news to just be in somewhere and know i've got a big back up.

Are you applying for the 08-09 cycle? Just started at Elon this fall, and felt similar to you in some regards. Granted I just started a couple weeks ago, Elon has been great. The school is headed in a very positive direction. If you are interested in fin aid opps, you should consider Appalachian School of Law. You stand a chance at receiving a full ride...then again Grundy is not for everyone. Wish you the best - do keep me posted. Regards, cjcleave

Not a problem

I'll be sure to keep you updated on when I hear back from schools. Charlotte and Baltimore got back to you quick. Did it come as an email?

I dont know about Balt yet..
Tuesday, September 02 2008 at 08:00 PM

One of the lawyers I know told me about Balt yesterday but im not sure if I want to apply yet. I dont think my numbers are what they are looking for, especially my LSAT score. Im going to think about it.....

How did you find out you were complete at Widener and Baltimore? I sent me apps in but have yet to hear back from them. It looks like we are applying to some of the same schools, best of luck!

I wish!

I still feel stressed, I wish I could relax but I cant yet. When I hear back from Howard and CUNY I will feel better (well, that is if I get accepted). Funny thing...howard sent me an email the day I applied saying welcome to howard. Although I knew I had just sent my app, I thought maybe it was good news. Yea right, it was just an email telling me everything about the school that I already knew. How are u doing? Which school do you really want to go to?

Waiting on December
Tuesday, September 02 2008 at 08:00 PM

Yea, I got the email from NCCU. I figure by november we should hear back from at least 4 or 5 schools. Lets pray for a good christmas:)

Im cool
Tuesday, September 02 2008 at 08:00 PM

Im not worried about Widener. We'll see what happens.

It seems like we have similar numbers and are applying to some of the same schools. I went to the Campbell open house, and I think the move to Raleigh is a great idea. Good luck with your Regent application. VB is my home town too.

hmmm..

Have you thought about applying to a couple of top tier schools.. it definitely looks like if you have the numbers...

Application Fee waivers
Thursday, August 07 2008 at 08:00 PM

I was reading through your comments and I saw you were looking for other places that have free apps. Loyola University Chicago waived me app fee when I applied through LSAC. I didn't even know it was free. And Washington and Lee also waived the fee. And I'm not 100% positive but U of California-Irvine has a new law school and I know they're expecting to give out full tuition scholarships for their entering class, but I think they may even be waiving the fee. You can't apply through LSAC you have to go to the UC-Irvine page. But you can check on the app fee waiver there too. Good luck!

Congrats

Hey congrats on your acceptances! I've been so busy with school and finals I have not been on here in a while. All in all, Elon Law is excellent. Having been here a semester, I have no regrets. The school is headed in a very positive direction. Location, classes and people are good. Elon is in the process of selecting a new dean, as Dean Davis (founding dean of Campbell and Elon) recently retired. It took about a month for Elon to get back to me. Good luck with the rest of your apps. Let me know if you want more specifics or have any other questions. Best wishes in the coming months!

Have you checked your application status on their website? Mine says admit. I am hoping that means I'm in, but I'm not sure.

Friday, August 15 2008 at 08:00 PM

Hey just saw you got into Widener and then read you were looking for fee waivers. Just to let you know there are a ton of schools that offer fee-waivers if you apply through LSAC or their websites or even before December 31st. Here is a thing on LSD I started maybe one of the schools are something you would consider. We have the same numbers and I think you should apply to some higher up schools why not if it's free you know. Well good luck and here is the posting http://www.lawschooldiscussion.org/prelaw/index.php/topic,4014644.0.html.

Great cycle

Is your file on Hold at Campbell? I noticed that you applied awhile ago, but you have not updated your status. I'm on hold right now and I am super nervous!

Regent
Sunday, January 04 2009 at 07:00 PM

Congrats on Regent.

Congrats on Elon
Sunday, January 25 2009 at 07:00 PM

Congrats on Elon. It is one of my top choices. I know this is a real quick response (as you just posted that you were accepted about an hour ago) but I was looking at Elons LSN page and I saw your name. How did you hear about your acceptance? Was it through the mail? And when did you apply? Your page says July but I wanted to see if that is the correct date. Once again, Congrats on another acceptance!

Wow, that's weird! I would definitely call the admissions office and find out what is going on with your application.

Thats great

Thanks for the info. Congrats! Do you think that you will be attending Elon?

Pardon my ability to proofread...

Hey
Sunday, January 25 2009 at 07:00 PM

I was just wondering if you had made you decision yet? I have been watching your profile (because we have simular schools and numbers) and I was just currious to see what you decided. I saw that you were leaning more towards Regent than Elon, but they were both #1's for you. Is there a reason for the lean towards Regent?

Ubalt Waitlist

How long after being waitlisted at Baltimore before they confirmed accepting you? Did you do anything at your end to have them lean in your favor? Good luck with everything

NCCU

The waitlist letter from NCCU was pretty cruel. I was looking strongly at going there, too and also thought I had the numbers to get in.

How?

How did you get so much funding. Not being a minority, you have racked up. Share the secrets, my friend!
