Additional info & updates

hope i can get into seton hall, rutgers newark, and umiami. What do you guys think, do I got a shot? i applied pt for seton hall and rutgers newark.

11/15- Still waiting to hear back from any schools, I should hear back from Depaul and Umiami soon.

11/16- Just checked out American University today and it turned out someone got in with a 155 lsat score. I kinda regret not applying their early decision. Georgetown is probably too big of a stretch. American could have probably been more attainable. FML

11/18- Got waitlisted at Umiami. I am kinda down about that but I still have a chance based on past posts on LSN of past applicant who have been waitlisted then accepted. Miami one of my top choices. I just hope i can get into either Rutgers or Seton Hall cause I really want to practice in Jersey. My F'in LSAT score is killing me. Here is a lesson to all you boys and girls out there applying, Law school preach diversity but its all a mirage. This is coming from probably one of the most Diverse individuals you will ever meet. My parents came to this country illegally for the first seven years before amnesty was granted to them in 1986. I am Bilingual and if my story cant get the admissions committee to overlook two lousy LSAT points at UMIAMI law, nothing will. Its all about LSAT score, do not believe anything these law schools preach about having a holistic view of their applicants. Thats all a bunch of BS. Enjoy your weekend guys and girls.

11/22- rejected from georgetown law via email. now i def feel like i should have applied early to American U. But i kinda expected this would happen. I need one acceptance to get things going already.

11/23- Rejected from Depaul, Fuck them I was not going to attend anyways. I also finally got into a law school. My acceptance to Marquette came in the mail today. I am happy that I finally got my first one. But unfortunately, even though the school looks amazing and Marquette is a household name, I am pretty sure I am not going to move to Wisconsin. But maybe if they give me a full ride, ill reconsider.

12-1-10 Rejected from Fordham today, man I wish I was black or mexican.

12/2- Rejected from Washington and Lee today. I need an acceptance from somewhere to get this bad taste out of my mouth.

12/6- Got into Rutgers-Newark. Well I offically feel at ease because I got into one of my top choices. Man this is a great feeling. Thank God and good luck to all this cycle.

12/23/2010 - So I keep having this feeling like we are going to have an on-pour of acceptances in the next two hours as like an early Christmas gift from the law schools. I have had this feeling all day but its probably not true. I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Def the best time of the year so grab some hot chocolate and enjoy the time off!!!

1-7-2011 - Checked my online status checker for UMaryland today and it says decision made. Now I have to wait for my rejection to come in the mail. I would love an acceptance but I don't see it happening,

1-7-11 - I heard back from 4 Schools today. 3 rejections and 1 wait-list. Not a pretty sight but I am still positive I will be happy and successful after the result of this whole process. I hope UMaryland does not look like this. The letter is still in the mail. Expecting the worst and hoping for the best.

1-13-11 Just visited Rutgers-Newark for Admitted Students Day. The school is beautiful. The faculty is great and the student body is helpful. It was a great experience and Anita Walton (Assistant Dean) is the nicest lady you can ever meet. She was even telling me the closest dog parks in the area, haha. She really cares about her students like a mother figure and she made the day great. Really happy that I have a seat at that school.

1-25-11 - Waitlisted at American University. Happy it is not a rejection. Now I am riding the waitlist. I was also able to switch from Part-time to full-time day at Rutgers-Newark which was nice. I am def taking the later track, 10am to 5:30. I sleep like a bear.

2-2-11 - Admitted to Tulane Law School. This is just crazy right now!!!

2-4-11 - Waitlisted at Wisconsin - Madison, February is shaping up to be a good month. Better than January, which was brutal. Also, My Tulane bag came in the mail today with a 6,000 dollar annual scholarship. That should pay for my gas to and from school each year!

2-28-11 - Admitted to Temple Law!!!!

4-11-11 - So I went to visit Tulane 2 weeks ago. The school is amazing and the people are very nice. Maybe if I had 60K a year to throw away and I was single, I would make the move down the NOLA and party down on Bourbon Street all the time. The city itself is alittle weird, most parts are nice and then you walk a block and you can be in the ghetto. I also visited Temple Law back in Mid-March and that school is really nice too. Granted, the actual building is nowhere as nice as Tulane's Law school but for 15k a year, I will def take it. The name recognition is very similar between Temple and Tulane law so I found no reason to pay an extra 45k a year on a law degree in this economy. I can see myself investing that much money into a degree from Georgetown, BU, or Fordham but Tulane does not measure up to those schools nor is it their goal as a program to be that. Tulane is one of those programs that writes its own destiny and reputation and you have to respect that. I definitely respect it but am not looking to dish out 60k a year for it in this economy. So after thinking hard and long about where I will be at in the fall, I have decided to attend Temple Law School. Not only will I save money and stay close to family and friends, I will definitely be able to pave my own destiny at this school because it excels in several different avenues of the law. I chose to stay close to home and save as much money in this economy and for this reason I also rejected Rutgers' offer too.

Thoughts: I hope everyone can learn from my cycle that anything is possible to obtain if you work hard and persevere. I stayed positive throughout this entire cycle and it definitely paid off for me. Even though I didn't have the best numbers, I continued to work hard and made myself a hard sell to these law schools through strong LOR's and a well thought out Personal Statement. If you do not have the best numbers, definitely look to paint a picture to these law schools that you are worth looking at beyond your numbers. I did this and got into some great programs and I am very grateful. I hope my story and profile can inspire you guys and I wish everyone great success in all of your aspirations.

5-13-11 - Admitted to Syracuse law off of the wait-list this week. Came home to a free syracuse T-shirt. I am currently working with a custom designer in a woodshop so i wear the free t-shirt to work. I would rather ruin that shirt at work than my Temple Law Tee. HAAHAA

5-19-11 - Admitted to Seton Hall off of the waiting-list. Admission info on its way in the mail.

Any chance you'll be attending over Rutgers?

Heyy man, Congrats on Rutgers and Tulane. We have pretty similar numbers and im from NJ. Do u think Id have a better chance of getting into rutgers part time than full time?? and then making a switch like you did? or do u think its pretty much the same?

Must be a good problem to have though... I want your cycle! Haha Honestly if I got into Tulane I would probably send in my deposit the next day... the only reason I have it ranked so low right now is because I feel like I have NO CHANCE of getting in...

Hmm... that is a tough one. I've definitely heard the same thing about Tulane and I'm in the same boat - I really would rather not work in the South and really do want to stay in the Northeast. I think what it comes down to for me is that I would DEFINITELY go to Tulane if I got in, but only because it's the top school for sport law in the country (maybe tied with Marquette). That's what I'm interested in, but if that's not really what you want to do then Tulane might not be the place for you. It's a very good law school even discounting the amazing sport program, but you're right, it's expensive and doesn't place well outside of the south.

Thamks my app is still in review according to the status checker.

Decisions indeed...
Sunday, November 07 2010 at 07:00 PM

I dunno man, it's tough. Obviously if I do get into Tulane I'm going there but on the strong chance I don't I'll probably hold out for UBalt... I really like the school, LOVE the sport law program there and I'm pretty sure I'll eventually get in... but it is tough. Need to visit Suffolk, Thomas Jefferson and Golden Gate before I make any decisions really, not going to know which of those three to pick without checking them out in person. Are you still leaning towards Rutgers? Man, I'd be awfully tempted by Tulane if I were you... especially with that scholarship money to balance it out a bit.

Decisions
Sunday, November 07 2010 at 07:00 PM

Yeah man, it really is a tough decision. I know even with my limited choices it's a tough call so I can't even imagine what it's like for you with Tulane, Marquette and Rutgers under your belt. Sport Law is actually a really growing field... the business is becoming increasing litigized. A lot of it is the contractual relationship between players (through agents) and clubs but just look at the labor crisis going on in the NFL right now... that takes a LOT of lawyers. Plus clubs need lawyers for sponsorship contracts, tort liability prevention, drug testing law... sports is definitely a big business and one that really requires a lot of legal expertise and Tulane is the best at training and placing students into those positions.

Decisions
Sunday, November 07 2010 at 07:00 PM

Yep, and that's why Tulane is so great for sport law. I'll give you an example: when I worked for the Jets (in their Administration/Negotiation department), 2/3 of my bosses went to Tulane Law. You're right, if you want to go into Sport Law you do need connections... that's why Tulane and Marquette (and between you and me, UBaltimore is getting up there as well) are the best for it.

Can't tell you for sure but it definitely can't hurt. The Tulane JD looks GREAT to any professional sport team.

Sunday, November 07 2010 at 07:00 PM

As much if not more. Obviously NFL lawyers are in vogue at the moment because of the messy labor crisis and the complexity of NFL contracts but the NBA will have a similar labor crisis in a few months and NBA contracts are just as complicated. In fact, NBA teams need freaking super-lawyers just to make trades to get around the damned complicated soft cap haha.

I actually have a mutual friend that is an executive with the Magic in their sponsorship department... she went to Marquette Law and Oregon's insanely good sport MBA program and says that her JD actually helps her more. She's been given responsibility for drafting all of the sponsorship contracts and it's really made her indispensable to the organization... they don't even need to hire outside counsel because they have her there just in case.

Temple Law
Tuesday, September 15 2009 at 08:00 PM

Syrianguy33: I saw you recently got into Temple Law. How long did it take them to accept you? I sent my application 1/20/11. Will I hear from them soon?

Wednesday, January 12 2011 at 07:00 PM

Glad to see you're doing so well with the schools that you want to go too. IE Rutgers etc. The think that blows my mind is how inconsistent the schools are that accept and reject you. I mean to get into Rutgers and get flat out rejected to DePaul seems insane to me. You're the poster boy for applying to many schools and having it work out.

Anita Walton Rocks!
Wednesday, March 30 2011 at 08:00 PM

I went to visit Rutgers last week and I met Ms. Anita Walton. She is lovely! I loved the school and I am definitely going! Congrats on your acceptances!

Nice!

Good Luck at Temple!

Wednesday, January 12 2011 at 07:00 PM

Things are going well here. I talked to some schools the other day about my applications and they had made it past a round of cuts with no decision, so that might hopefully bode well. Other than that I'm just sitting around watching the paint peel off my house.

Friday, May 28 2010 at 08:00 PM

Hey man, congrats and have fun at temple. It was fun chatting with you on LSN haha. See ya at the bar exam in a few years.

Mainly the tuition and their focus of PI/gov't work, which is what I want to get in to. And also I love nyc and I've been in boston too long, so I figured it's time for a change. And also if we're still gonna open a practice in north jeresy I figured a ny school would be better hahah

Cool man will do. My email is up there on my profile.

Hey Keifk, Wallah Im in Yemen Now. Im trying to make a decision.I am also waiting for rutgers and Columbia(Columbia said They were way overbooked and do not see any chance of taking anyone from the waitlist. If it was you would You pick seton hall(ranked 53 or Rutgers ranked 86) or pace with 15k scholarship

Monday, November 01 2010 at 08:00 PM

Only if u sell yourself hard enough, u can't say please let me in cause I am Arabic and Arabs need more lawyers in America. While true, schools don't want to hear that shit and in all seriousness, would you if u were an admissions officer . Instead, you paint a picture of how your diverse background and upbringing has motivated you to do law and how your background will allow you to bring a diverse perspective to any law school. This approach in much more effective , trust me

wtf

TJ
Sunday, November 07 2010 at 07:00 PM

I'm not sure UBalt is really less desirable... but I mean circumstances as they are (I'm traveling for work until mid July which would be pretty late for apartment hunting) and TJSL being a really strong 1B option... I just decided to pull the trigger. I'm still on the UBalt waitlist and could switch if the situation warranted it but I don't see it. Living in San Diego is going to be awesome and I really do love the school... plus it's a lot cheaper haha. As far as taking a year off... nah. I mean I'm just ready to start law school and I don't have the patience to try to retake the LSAT haha. I figure at worst a year living in SD won't kill me if I do decide to transfer and I mean, 1L is pretty much the same anywhere. We'll have to see what happens!
