Began college at 15, which led to bouts of poor schoolwork mixed with decent grades... wrote a letter of circumstances to explain GPA issues.

Additional info & updates

11/11/06: I need to stop applying. I swear I'm done, now. Really.

11/14/06: Am complete at Fordham, which came as quite the shocker (and don't know quite when it happened). Didn't realize they don't require ANY LOR, so my file went complete with only one LOR. I mailed them a diversity statement two weeks ago, so hopefully they got that added to my file.

11/15/06: Went complete at Georgetown this morning. The good news is that I faxed in my DS along with my ED form, so I know for sure they got it. Now I can sit back and wait to get what will most likely be my first rejection (ED and all). I'm going to be sad when it comes.

11/17/06: My general LOR from my advisor finally was mailed today, so I'll start going complete everywhere but Seattle and L&C very soon. She is planning to get their targeted letters out next week... we'll see.

11/19/06: My pre-law advisor has been after me to apply to UW. I feel like I have about no chance because of my GPA, but she feels otherwise. We'll see who is right.

12/11/06: Dinged by Georgetown. I was hoping for a WL or Deferred but I guess I shouldn't be too surprised... even for PT. Sigh.

12/27/06: Believe it or not, my pre-law advisor's LOR finally, FINALLY posted to LSAC. She claimed to have mailed it on 11/14 but I think she probably forgot. At any rate, it's there now, so I'll finally start going complete. Thank god!

1/02/07: In at Fordham PT via email. There is a god!

1/08/07: Email from Seattle indicating that I actually went complete way back on 12/18 even though it took the status checker online until 1/03 to reflect it. Email from W&M indicating that I am now complete. AND a fee waiver from DePaul via snail mail. I didn't think they were still handing those out for fall 2007, but apparently they are.

1/12/07: Complete at USF via email.

1/18/07: Complete at Harvard via email.

1/27/07: In at Seton Hall (letter dated 1/23). Thick regular-sized envelope that was pretty obviously not just a rejection.

2/6/07: Seattle U status checker changed to decision mailed on 2/5. I live nearby so I'm hoping to get it today! Also, LSAC finally updated with half of my fall grades so my GPA went from a 2.72 to a 2.78... yippee.

2/8/07: Still no word from Seattle. In at USF via email.

2/8/07: HOLY CRAP! In addition to USF, came home to find acceptance packets from Seattle AND Lewis & Clark. Hell yeah.

2/17/07: In at USD via mail (large white envelope). Also removed UConn from my list because I never bothered to get the Dean's Cert.

3/11/07: Withdrew from a bunch of schools today. Good luck to those still waiting to hear from them!

3/12/07: Harvard's rejection was mean. :(

3/28/07: Still no word from W&M. The hell?! Withdrew from USD today... yikes on the 20-point drop in the rankings.

3/29/07: Finally heard from W&M. Not too surprised by that. I'm tempted to stay on, just to see.

3/30/07: Withdrew from W&M... no real point to finding out whether I'd get in since I'd go to Fordham over W&M if I was going to move. Darn husbands who refuse to move. Seattle it is!

So, after all of that, I ended up in at the majority of schools... even ones people told me I'd never get into. For those of you who come across this trying to find out your chances, I think it's worth shooting somewhat high. If I can get in with my craptastic GPA and mediocre LSAT, I'm sure you can too. Apply early, write a kick ass PS, and don't hesitate to include a diversity statement, letter of intent, etc.

---------

10/25/07: I definitely didn't think I'd be applying again this year but SU doesn't offer deferrals and I am pregnant with twins! So, I withdrew and am praying to god they let me back in. I had to delete Seattle from last cycle to add it this time, but obviously they let me in last year.

10/26/07: Complete at Seattle. They don't begin reviewing apps until December, so time to wait. And wait some more.

1/14/08: Seattle status checker changed to decision mailed today. It lists a date of 1/7/08, but I know that it only updated today. Then again, maybe that is when the decision itself was made. I should hear soon enough.

1/17/08: Accepted via large envelope. Actually two, since the student outreach packet also arrived today. Sadly, no money, which is painful albeit not unexpected. Now to figure out how to pay for the gap between govt. loans and tuition while also dropping to a one-income family!

Looks like you should be a lock for Seattle with those practice LSAT numbers. My friend said it was a great school to apply to, so I'm definitely keeping my fingers crossed.

Yup, you should definitely be in at Seattle now. Good luck with Harvard and W&M; I'm also applying to a few reaches.

I assume you just took the LSAT, so you should start receiving a few fee waivers soon.

And here I thought HYS would be knocking down my door. I've done my research and I know how small the odds are in most cases, but I'm also willing to pay the $50-80 to see what happens.

re: Gonzaga
Monday, September 11 2006 at 08:00 PM

I think the Gonzaga actually has a really good reputation locally and a great alumni network. I have held off for now, planning to focus on Tier 1/2, but if I begin to fail there, I may very well apply to Gonzaga.

Good luck

Just thought I'd wish the fellow Seattleite good luck. We've got similar numbers and a few similar schools. SHU but no Rutgers-Newark?

Uh, no shit? Why do you think I labeled them as pure reaches.

crap out of FU. Good job. I bet SHU follows suit shortly. Good luck to you.

thanks!
Friday, June 02 2006 at 08:00 PM

Hopefully I can get a scholarship of some sort too...SLU is pretty expensive. :-/ I'm still praying that I will get into a school on the west coast. Of course, Hawaii is the one I'm really hoping for, money-wise. And congrats on Fordham! :-)

Good luck Seattle U. I have a similar profile to you, so perhaps we'll both be admitted....

How lucky are you to hear back from three schools all in one day!? Congratulations! :) I would die for a mail day like that lol. Are you leaning toward a particular school yet?

Congrats!
Wednesday, December 20 2006 at 07:00 PM

Wow, good job on Fordham! I have almost the same numbers as you, so I'm interested to see what happens. Good luck on the rest.

Congrats on all your acceptances. You're living proof that elitist assholes don't know shit.

Congrats!

nope
Friday, June 02 2006 at 08:00 PM

Nothing lately from SU. I did get another thin envelope from them a couple weeks back that kinda scared me, but it was just another waitlist notice. I've been trying to schedule a visit to the campus, but they haven't even replied to my emails. I hope I get into SU...they have a nice curriculum and it's on the west coast, so it's closer to home than SLU. And sorry about Harvard. :-( Screw them, you got into some other nice schools. :-)

S2X
nope
Friday, June 02 2006 at 08:00 PM

Haven't tried calling. I'm hoping it will be ok to just walk onto the campus and check it out. I haven't even been accepted there yet, so I'm not gonna worry much about scheduling a visit. I don't need to sit in on a class...just need to view the surroundings/atmosphere and see if it's where I want to be for three years.

S2X
well
Friday, June 02 2006 at 08:00 PM

Apparently, someone from SU got back to me and now I have a visit scheduled. And I'll be sitting in on a class too. :-D

Harvard
Wednesday, December 20 2006 at 07:00 PM

Was Harvard's rejection actually mean? If so, in what way? I just thought that comment was funny and I'm curious...

Seattle or SD
Tuesday, February 06 2007 at 07:00 PM

Just curious if you've made a decision between Seattle & SD? I'm choosing between Seattle and LC, but Seattle is more likely because of proximity.

SU
Friday, June 02 2006 at 08:00 PM

I really enjoyed my SU visit. Here's to hoping they accept me! (or even UH, for that matter) :-)

S2X
SU vs LC?
Friday, February 24 2006 at 07:00 PM

How did you make the decision between LC and SU. I am deciding between the two and I have no idea.

SU
Friday, June 02 2006 at 08:00 PM

Good luck at SU! Hopefully I get accepted and can catch you on campus (given that UHawaii rejects me)!

You mentioned you sat in on a Civ Pro class. What was the name of your prof? I had Contracts with Pardo. He's REAL good.

SU FT/PT program
Friday, June 02 2006 at 08:00 PM

I've decided to see if I could be considered for the FT summer start or the PT evening program as well at SU. I'm probably mailing that letter out tomorrow. Anyway, would you happen to know if it's possible to move from PT to FT? I also sent an email to SU about that question, so I guess if you don't know, they'll tell me.

S2X
Hawaii

UHawaii rejected me today...hoping for SU now.

SU deposit deadline
Friday, June 02 2006 at 08:00 PM

Didn't you say that there was a deposit deadline for SU in April? If so, I'm guessing it was the 15th?

I guess no SU for me.

May 14 visit
Tuesday, February 06 2007 at 07:00 PM

Just wondering if you are attending the May 14th event?

decision made
Friday, June 02 2006 at 08:00 PM

I'll be at Willamette this fall. The location combined with their scholarship offer was too good to pass up. Not to mention that they have quite a Hawaii following. Good luck at Seattle!

S2X
Yay! Another nontrad!
Thursday, December 27 2007 at 07:00 PM

Wow, it's great to see another nontrad here! I'm a single mom of 2, age 39. I've wanted LS for so long I can taste it. W & M is my school. It's great to see you at least got waitlisted there. It's pretty much my only shot. I'll be watching to see how you do! Good luck! Congrats on the twins! Holy Cow!

UW
Saturday, August 18 2007 at 08:00 PM

you definitely have a chance at UW - if you want to try, you should apply! =)

Seattle
Wednesday, December 06 2006 at 07:00 PM

Yeah for Seattle!! I'm sure their financial aid office will help you make it happen. UW does try to help out residents, but the previous comment was made on the application deadline, so that ship has sailed. Anyway, congrats on Seattle, maybe I'll see you there.
