Re-taking LSAT in February
______________________________________________________________________________
For the first fourteen years of my life I lived among the
Sulka people of Papua New Guinea. I learned the Sulka language as my primary language and grew up practicing their customs. I lived in a bamboo house with a coconut roof and a dirt floor. I hunted for snakes, birds, bats, and other exotic animals, and fished for sharks using nothing more than a hook, some string, and a Coke bottle. I even walked the trails the Japanese carved during World War II.
______________________________________________________________________________
Sent letter updating with World Race info and asking to hold for Feb LSAT to: Fordham, Santa Clara, USC, NYU, Duke, Hastings, Virginia, Boston, Vandy, Emory and UCONN.
______________________________________________________________________________
Recently chosen as a participant for the World Race, a highly selective international humanitarian program. While participating with the World Race I will be spreading awareness of the AIDS crisis in South Africa, Swaziland, Uganda, and Kenya; working in orphanages in Egypt, India, Mexico, and Cambodia; and visiting local hospitals in Guatemala, Peru, Brazil, and China. In each of these countries I will also be teaching the values of safe sex, education, and hygiene. This program will end prior to my matriculation into law school
______________________________________________________________________________
Lots of EC's (volunteer, human rights, etc.)
______________________________________________________________________________
Just received my February LSAT score: 160!!! Lets see what the schools have to say about that.

Additional info & updates

12-07-06: Checked school mail to find Georgetown rejection. I cant say I didn't see it coming. It will be the first of many.
______________________________________________________________________________
12-14-06: Received Notre Dame rejection and Santa Clara deferral. There is still hope at SC. I would really like an acceptace though.
______________________________________________________________________________
12-18-06: Received rejection from Boston College at permanent address and deferral at Fordham at permanent address. The deferral was unexpected so I am kind of excited about that. These rejections are taking their toll though.
______________________________________________________________________________
12-26-06: Accepted at Hofstra! I will never go there, and was disappointed in zero scholarship money, but it is nice to know that I am not a reject!
______________________________________________________________________________
12-28-06: Accepted at Dayton via email. More information is supposed to follow in the mail later this week.
______________________________________________________________________________
01-08-07: Accepted at Florida Coastal via snail mail. Received a renewable Governor's Scholarship of $36,000.
______________________________________________________________________________
01-18-07: Accepted at Willamette via snail mail. Received a renewable scholarship of $36,000 if I maintain a 2.9. I am excited about the money and that it could possibly allow me to work in Portland. Anyone have any information on job prospects out of Willamette, let me know!
______________________________________________________________________________
01-22-07: Received info packet from Dayton along with scholarship amount totalling $54,000. Sweet. Probably still wont attend, although the handwritten note from the Dean was nice.
______________________________________________________________________________
01-22-07: Seattle status checker changed to Decision Mailed. I am so nervous.
______________________________________________________________________________
01-25-07: Waitlisted at Loyola Chicago. I will send in the form and a letter of continued interest. Hopefully I can do better on the LSAT in Feb and get selected off the waitlist.
______________________________________________________________________________
01-30-07: In at Seattle!!! Wahoo!!! Received the Dean' Diversity Scholarship of $6000/year. I have to be in the top half of the class to maintain the scholarship. Totally stoked about this one. Good possibility I will end up in Seattle next year!
______________________________________________________________________________
02-05-07: Its been a busy Monday. Accepted at Golden Gate. Got a note from Seattle U's Dean, and rejected at U-Dub. It is all overpowered by U-Dub's rejection. It was a miracle chance, but I am still a little disappointed.
______________________________________________________________________________
02-07-07: Ok, so today sucks. I got what seems to be a deferral from Lewis & Clark. I called them and told them that I was re-taking the LSAT this weekend. They said that once they got the new score my file would go directly back to the Admissions Committee for review again. I guess that means its better than a deferral, because the deferral letter said that they wont look at the apps until April or May. I dunno. I just want to get in. Argh!
______________________________________________________________________________
02-13-07: Well here comes the start of a LOT of rejections. Out at George Washington.
______________________________________________________________________________
02-20-07: Out at Loyola. I never told them to hold for my new LSAT. It was expected.
______________________________________________________________________________
03-05-07: Rejected from USC. They didn't wait for my new LSAT, but it wouldn't have mattered anyway.
______________________________________________________________________________
03-08-07: Rejected from UVA.
______________________________________________________________________________
03-12-07: Rejected from George Mason.
______________________________________________________________________________
03-14-07: Rejected from Emory with the 160.
______________________________________________________________________________
03-21-07: Just got accepted to Lewis & Clark! WAHOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! I was SO excited. They must have just accepted me after they received my new LSAT. I was deferred, but I don't think that they made this decision as a regular deferral! I am so STOKED!!!!! They told me that I wasn't going to hear from them until the end of April or in the beginning of May. I am so excited that it came earlier.
______________________________________________________________________________
03-23-07: Rejected from Oregon with the 160. This is really weird. I know I wasnt a completly solid candidate, but to be the first rejection kind of means I am an auto-ding. I was in-state as well. Really weird. Oh well. Still stoked about LC. I went to their ASW today. I loved it!
______________________________________________________________________________
03-30-07: Rejected at Fordham after being deferred, via their status checker.
______________________________________________________________________________
04-04-07: Accepted at UConn. Out at Hastings via status checker. I think I have cut Seattle U out of the mix. UConn is the highest ranked school I have gotten into so far. It looks like it will be a decision between LC and UConn now.
______________________________________________________________________________
04-09-07: Ding. NYU.
______________________________________________________________________________
04-13-07: Waitlisted at Miami. I am actually very interested in Miami, so I will send in the reply form. I think it was because I applied so late.
______________________________________________________________________________
04-16-07: Waitlisted at Iowa and USD. I will stay on the Iowa waitlist and withdraw from USD.
______________________________________________________________________________
04-18-07: So I get this call from Unknown ID and I don't answer. I get a voicemail from Wendy at Denver Law asking me to call her back. She tells me that they can offer me a seat if I would like plus $10,000 in scholarship. I was shocked, because I didn't even finish my application there. I sent in half an app, and just stopped because I got too lazy.
______________________________________________________________________________
04-27-07: Accepted to Pacific. Not going, but they took absolutely FOREVER!
______________________________________________________________________________
04-28-07: Sent in my deposit to Lewis & Clark. The only way I wont be attending will be a miracle late acceptance.

URM...
Friday, February 24 2006 at 07:00 PM

the only reason i put URM is because i was told my soft factors would be viewed as almost URM status throughout the admissions process. if you guys think this will not be accurate i will take it off. i use LSN to determine my chances at other schools, and if a adcomm was to view my app in a different way than someone elses, i wanted to distinguish that. let me know. thanks! and good luck!

Fordham, etc.
Wednesday, November 01 2006 at 07:00 PM

hey there - thanks for your note. Most of the schools I am applying to are going to be very tough to get into, so I am keeping realistic expectations. The Fordham rejection came in a standard small envelop. Good luck!

URM
Saturday, October 21 2006 at 08:00 PM

You should keep the URM status. URM can cover many groups of races and is not limited to the 3 groups mentioned above. Under represented minority can be mongolian even for example. I believe Pacific Islanders are considered as Asians. Which by many (but not all) schools are considered to be a URM. A part of that, keep up the hard work pal. I am certain you will have choices in picking the school you will attend. Good luck.

Xmas Card?
Monday, November 13 2006 at 07:00 PM

Did you recieve a xmas card from Santa Clara?

hey
Tuesday, November 14 2006 at 07:00 PM

good luck to you too, we even got some schools in common, you never know :) better to apply to a shitload was my philosophy ;)

USD
Monday, June 05 2006 at 08:00 PM

How did you hear when your USD app was received and complete?

Thanks for the congrats!
Wednesday, October 25 2006 at 08:00 PM

Thanks for the congrats! Yes, I was expecting something from Santa Clara and instead I get USD so it was a nice surprise! I didn't know they were sending out responses already. Yes - money is a factor for me (why I applied part-time plus was worried that my stats were too low for full-time) so I'll definitely consider it over Miami. Never visited but saw online that the campus is gorgeous and San Diego is just a great location!

Sorry about ND. It happened for me yesterday too. Let's look forward to some acceptances, aye?

Soft Factors
Friday, February 24 2006 at 07:00 PM

I did use them in my personal statement, but just my background in Papua New Guinea.

Thanks for the info and the kind words Re: USD. Good luck with the rest of your apps.

ED
Friday, February 24 2006 at 07:00 PM

I was able to apply ED to both schools because Notre Dame's ED program is unique in that you have until a certain date whether or not you wanted to accept their admission. It was weird, but allowed me to apply ED elsewhere. I believe WUSTL had the same type of ED program. Good Luck!

Real Numbers
Monday, September 18 2006 at 08:00 PM

Thanks for the congrats. The numbers are real, but I have many soft factors that include living in over 10 countries at some point, extensive community involvement, a host of leadership posts, and a number of other interesting things. At any rate, we will see how this turns out. Good luck!

good luck

Re: Seattle
Tuesday, May 16 2006 at 08:00 PM

Thanks! Actually I noticed my status checker for Seattle has said decision mailed since Dec. 21st. Not sure how long before that it actually changed. Best of luck to you on this cycle!

Wow
Monday, October 02 2006 at 08:00 PM

Actually, there isn't a single school on your list that I did not apply! I noticed you also took advantage of all the fee-waivers and you're from Seattle! I would love to go to Seattle U, Lewis & Clark or actually any decent 2nd tier schools on the west coast. Good luck on your Feb. LSAT and I'll come back to check out your progress again!

N/M
Monday, October 02 2006 at 08:00 PM

Oops.. what was I thinking. Please disregard my last post. I was looking at my own list when I was writing it. I think you have a decent shot at Seattle. Good luck on your Feb. LSAT! If you break 160, you should get into many schools on your list. I'll come back to check out your progress. Go Beavers!

Thanks
Tuesday, May 09 2006 at 08:00 PM

Willamette sent me a letter via snail mail. The letter had both the acceptance and the scholarship offer. Good luck the rest of your cycle!

Hope you do better the 2nd time!
Thursday, January 11 2007 at 07:00 PM

Good luck on the Feb LSAT. I bombed on mine. Did Santa Clara respond back on your request for a hold? I know they do take the highest score, but I didn't think I could retake the test since their app deadline is Feb 1.

Willamette
Thursday, October 19 2006 at 08:00 PM

Congrats on the big $ from Willamette. It is a beautiful campus. As for job prospects, I'd say it depends if you plan on staying in Oregon. A good friend of mine had difficulty finding something in Seattle and he did very well in his class....but ended up with a nice clerkship in the end. He said its MUCH easier within OR. than up in WA. Quite the story btw, good luck with the rest of your cycle.

Schools I wouldn't attend
Friday, February 24 2006 at 07:00 PM

I applied to a lot of schools, but each for different reasons. Florida Coastal for example offers to pay $500 to visit their school for ASW which happens to be during spring break. So I applied there for the free trip to Florida. In most places I applied to a school because 1) it was a free application and 2) i would contemplate going there if given some scholarship money. The reason I said that I would never go to Hofstra is because of the high COL in NY and they gave me NO scholarship $$. I never said that they are beneath me, just that it isn't feasible for me to attend a school, who's career prospects aren't great, with a high COL, and NO scholarship money. The reason i "probably" still wont attend Dayton is because Willamette sent me $$$ a few days before the Dayton $$$.

Dayton
Tuesday, December 12 2006 at 07:00 PM

Don't move to Dayton. Seriously. I grew up just north of there. Don't do it. It's like the asshole of the midwest. Well, right after Cincy anyway. Glad to see you've gotten some acceptances. Apparently all the schools I applied to are looking at me pretty damn close because it's taking them forever.

FC
Monday, October 02 2006 at 08:00 PM

I too got accepted at FC and they told me about the trip with $500 reimbursement. So I guess even if choose not to attend FC, we will not repay the money back to the school? In that case, WOW, i'm definately gonna chill on the beach in Jacksonville during spring! Congrats on Willamette and Hosftra! I too got waitlisted @ Loyola Chicago... crossing fingers.

Seattle
Monday, December 18 2006 at 07:00 PM

I'm really keeping my fingers crossed for you. I've decided that I would rather Seattle NOT had the status checker, its driving me up the wall!!

Loyola Chicago
Monday, October 02 2006 at 08:00 PM

I just checked Loyola's last year's cycle and couldn't believe the school waitlisted that many people!

rejections
Tuesday, December 12 2006 at 07:00 PM

Thanks for the kind words, but unfortunately i got another rejection (American)right after you left me that message. :(

green apple
Monday, December 18 2006 at 07:00 PM

I'm a huge lightweight. So the green apple works well for me. I accidently bought the straight vodka apple kind at albertsons the day after my 21st bday (I wanted to get carded). I about died when I took a drink, my mouth was burning for what felt like hours haha. I'm hoping Seattle loves my LSAT. Or at least likes it enough to make it worth my while to live in Seattle. I always thought if I was going to be paying 1,000 dollars for a studio it'd be because I was living on the beach, not in the rain. But they have good coffee, so it works ;)

Seattle!!
Monday, December 18 2006 at 07:00 PM

Congratulations!! Plus scholarship?! AWESOME! :) I'm so excited for you wahoooo!! Maybe if they let me in we'll see each other around! :)

Cinque Terra
Thursday, October 19 2006 at 08:00 PM

The Cinque Terra are 5 towns on the Italian Riviera, now a national park/tourist area. It is the most beautiful, serene place I've been lucky enough to visit in all my world travels. Basically, the farthest thing from law school I can imagine...thus the tar.

LC
Monday, December 18 2006 at 07:00 PM

Thanks, I'm really disappointed that I'm not going to be able to go. If I wanted to practice environmental law I'd go anyway, but since I'm not I have to be practical, and going to a school with no scholarship isn't practical. I hope they accept you! have you told them of your new lsat? From what I've heard their deferral is only for a month or two, not like other schools' waitlists. Is it your top choice?

congrats on ur acceptances thus far. do u know if you are giving any of these a serious thought?

re
Saturday, October 21 2006 at 08:00 PM

thats good to know man. finally you are getting things lined up for yourself. must be a great feeling... congrats on ur success in cycle and u deserve a pat on the back :) in re to where I wanna go.. I would like to get in one of the 3 Gs in DC. I am looking for PT program and only these schools offer the good ones in the country. however, being realistic with my numbers it will be extremely difficult to get in these as all are Tier 1. I hope the CLEO helps out and makes a difference. For a backup, I always have Quinnipiac and with their scholarship along with cleo $$ I would'nt be paying much in tuition, and then not to mention i can always transfer out after 1L year. So I know one way or the other things will work out, they always do.

Lewis and Clark
Sunday, February 11 2007 at 07:00 PM

Congrats on your acceptance! I told you that you would be the first to be accepted from them with your new LSAT score. Maybe now they can accept the rest of us. Did they send you a packet or was it via e-mail? Also are you able to log into their admitted students page?

L&C
Monday, December 18 2006 at 07:00 PM

Are you considering Lewis and Clark?! I thought I had decided on Gonzaga, but it seems like my mind is changing the more I look at LC. I have a profile on their admitstudents site, Brittany from Reno. You're so nice it would be pretty cool to see you there!

hey
Friday, June 02 2006 at 08:00 PM

Congrats on your acceptances! What's your top choice at the moment?

S2X
L&C or SU
Friday, June 02 2006 at 08:00 PM

Well, I guess it all depends on where you plan on practicing after graduation. If you want to stay in Portland, L&C seems like the better choice. However, if you want to work in Seattle, go to SU. Anyway, I also applied to UHawaii several months back, so I'm also hoping to get in there as well. It'd be nice if I could get in at both SU and Hawaii, but SU is so nice a campus, I'd go there even without a scholarship offer. Let me know what school you decide on attending! :-)

S2X
SU vs. LC
Monday, September 11 2006 at 08:00 PM

For me, it's all about where you want to practice. If you want to live/work in Portland, go to L&C. If you want to live/work in Seattle, go to Seattle. If you don't want to live/work in either, go with whichever school you happen to like better. I'm not a fan of Portland and L&C is VERY Portland to me. I applied there just in case I didn't get in to SU. For me, there was never a doubt that I'd choose SU over L&C.

LC v SU
Tuesday, February 06 2007 at 07:00 PM

I agree with Allard on this. It comes down to a choice between Portland and Seattle, assuming the finances are similar. I visited LC and thought the profs were very accessible and friendly, and the school seems to be serious about improving its offerings beyond environmental law.

Decisions
Sunday, February 11 2007 at 07:00 PM

Hey, just wanted to let you know that I got over Lewis and Clark and that when they accepted me, I will promptly withdraw. I've decided to go to the University of San Diego. When are you going to make a final choice? It seems that you have more options than I do even though I'm starting to get more acceptances. You applied all over the country so I guess your choice will be based on where you want to live. For me, USD was a great choice because it's a local powerhouse, San Diego is beautiful, and it's close enough to my family so that I can drive up whenever I needed to. Let me know where you decide to go.
