Additional info & updates

3-3-10: Accepted @ CASE WESTERN! Narrowed it down pretty much to CWRU and SLU! I can't believe I got in!

3-2-10: I haven't updated this in a while. Rejected at PSU today...trying not to take it too hard, but I really wanted to go there! Oh well, I'll survive. Waitlisted at U Cincy yesterday - but I haven't given up hope. I'm visiting SLU this wkd.

2-1-10: ACCEPTED AT SLU! Alternate email was changed to @slu.edu :) I GOT INTO the BEST HEALTH LAW PROGRAM - and my first choice! WOOT WOOT! I'm on Cloud 9 right now. Still awaiting fin aid pkt.

1-30-10: Received snail mail acceptance packet from St Thomas! Good school, great location. I'm pretty excited! Still waiting to hear from my other top/fave schools. Scholarship is $5000/per year

1-28-10: Accepted at Akron Law on Status Checker ...Scholarships are not given until end of February.

1-27-10: Accepted at MSU! They have both Health and Environmental Law (my two areas of study)! Fin aid pkt came...no scholarship at all...bummer!

1-25-10: Received snail mail from Quinnipiac with fin aid pkt. Only offered $5,000 per year...thought it would be more...We'll see what else comes in.

1-25-10: Accepted at Valpo Law (via snail mail). Offered a full tuition scholarship. Only allowed two weeks to decide...not sure what to do. Not really my first choice, but FREE law school...hmmm...

1-23-10: Another Acceptance today (by email)! I got accepted to one of my top 5 choices!...Quinnipiac University in Hamden, CT! Great school, great location, etc. I'm elated...Can't wait for the Fin Aid & Acceptance Packet!

1-23-10: Accepted at Hamline University in Saint Paul (by email)! Good Health Law Program and great location. Not my first choice, but one of my faves. It is official, however, I'm GOING TO LAW SCHOOL!...I'll wait for the other letters now :)

12-7-09: Heard from Notre Dame today (Rejected). Not surprised, but I was kind of hoping to have my search done early. At this point, a 'no' is better than a 'maybe'...now I can move on. I have 10 applications I'll be sending out by mid-week now.

Hey, just got accepted to Valp with a full scholarship as well! It's also one of my safeties, but that's hard to turn down. It's a nice back-up for me and they place pretty well in Indiana. Anyway, the real reason I'm posting is because you have until April 1st to make a decision whether or not to attend Valpo in the Fall. You read the letter wrong. It's just the acknowledgment form you have to turn in in two weeks just stating you received the letter and scholarship information.

Thanks

Congrats to you too! It is really hard to turn down...Especially when my first choices are expensive and in very expensive locations... Thank you for explaining that. I read the letter lots of times last night trying to decipher if I would be charged $250 on April 1st, if I turned down Valpo before then...I didn't think so, but I was freaking out a little. Haha. Good luck on the rest of your cycle. What's your first choice?

Hey! No prob! I read the letter multiple times too and thought the same thing until I read what was under the entry requirements, which states, "If for some reason I decide to not attend Valp, I will let the school know in writing." It's basically just an acknowledgement letter with no chains attached. Just don't send the seat deposit yet! That's what will lock you in (due April 1st). Just make sure that you notify Valpo if you decide not to go before April 1st. Hope that helps! I know what you mean about expensive. Even though Valpo is lower ranked...to be able to graduate with little to no debt is usually unheard of, which makes the school competitive for lots of reasons. My first choice is Northeastern because I love the Boston area, but I'd be fine with Suffolk or New England. Good luck on the rest of your cycle too!

Valpo

Nahh, I am not going to go to Valpo. Its a T3 school and I really have no interest in it. Also I have heard that yeah they give you tuition for the first year, but then they normalize your grades, and its possible if you get A's that when they normalize it that you could lose your scholarship. Apparently they 'play' with your grades...

Thanks...and update

Thank you frozenxthoughts and muwarrior88. I'll make sure not to send to seat deposit yet. I don't think I'll be attending Valpo either...especially since they are now T4! I just don't want to live in Indiana anymore...I've been here my whole life. Haha. Hopefully I'll get into Dickinson (PSU), SLU, Cincy, or Case Western! Thanks for your thoughts and keep in touch with your cycles.

Thanks

Thanks and congrats on all of your acceptances so far! Right now I'm stuck between SLU and Louisville. Do you know where you want to go yet?

congrats on all of your acceptances! i don't know how i feel about slu right now. they do have an awesome health law program, which is something i want to maybe go into but i also am really interested in child/family advocacy. and missouri for three years? haha i don't know. my top three are miami, indiana, or hofstra/slu. i can't decide...

Case Western $$$

Congrats to you too! I received my scholarship reward via email. It came a few minutes after I received my actual acceptance letter. Will you be attending the admitted students day next week?

Case Western

Yes, I will be there. I am excited to visit. It should be a good time. I hope to see you there!

SLU

Looks like I'll be heading there myself more than likely. Does the sticker price worry you at all?

Re: Top Choices

Hey, congrats on SLU, I'm sure you'll love it. Assuming I don't get into Pitt, Case or BC (Dad got his JD there) I am going to Toledo. The scholarship they gave me is equivalent to full tuition in state, so it's tough to turn down. I wanted to go to SLU, but even with their scholarship offer it would've put me like $120k+ in debt, so after they fell out of top 100 I couldn't justify paying it. I really wanted to go there, but the financial side of it didn't make sense in comparison to my other options. Best of luck to you if you go to SLU, it's a great school and I'm sure you'll love it! Good luck with the Indiana's as well!

Thanks! So do you like the school? Have any good feedback about the education you are receiving there? What about the location?

Question

Hey. Congrats on all your apps and your selection. I may, HOPEFULLY, wind up with a selection decision like yours...Case vs. SLU...could you tell me a little about why you went with SLU? It just so happens that I want to do health law and bioethics and it also just so happens that I am a friend of the new director of the joint program.
