Same guy as the first badgerbacker, only for some reason I can't access that account. All my other info is on that account if anyone cares to know.

New LSAT score is from September 09'

Quick run down. I attended law school for one year straight out of undergrad. Only thing I can say is if Cooley throws money at you and or it's your only option due to grades/ LSAT don't do it!! I'm applying to go back and start from scratch, not a transfer.

Because EVERYONE keeps asking about Cooley, read this. It's not mine but the guy (or girl) does a pretty good job of describing the school without being overly harsh.
http://www.epinions.com/review/educ-Law_Schools-All-Thomas_M_Cooley_Law/content_133879139972

I just want that one acceptance, everything after that is a bonus.

Best of luck to everyone with their application cycle!

11/16/09 Added UW and Loyola to the list. I would say I have a 1 in a 100 shot of making it on UW's wait list and about the same for Loyola. Loyola gave me a fee waiver making me think someone in admissions needs paper to line their bird cage. I have no idea why else I would get one unless everyone gets one.

11/18/09- Call from SIU today letting me know that I'm in and that a packet is on the way! Hot-diggity-damn it looks like no matter what I will be going to law school!!!

11/23/09- Talked to Ole' Miss admissions, ugh. Not a flat out rejection, at least not in so many words. However even reaching to a T3 now seems dubious. I think I have some dark days in front of me in terms of my application cycle.

Ominous indeed, dinged at Arkansas. Evidently someone let it slip that not only did I have a full set of teeth, but that I also had failed to marry my cousin, tisk tisk such a faux pas can't be tolerated. All joking aside it's great town and school congrats to all who decide to go.

11/25/09 In light of the decision from Arkansas I added St. Mary's and will be adding more T4's that are at least somewhat attractive. I'm taking this rejection as more of a harbinger than an exception in terms of my cycle. Pessimistic you say? No just facing certain realities due to my misadventures with Cooley. I must say that this is dissapointing in light of my numbers, softs, the amount of time spent away from Cooley (come next fall it will be 4 years) and the circumstances in which that particular instutition places it's students, alumni etc. However I still have the earnest desire to become an attorney and will push forward despite the rising tide.

11/28/09 Applied to Wyoming. Some might argue it's not the best school, but if I'm going to go to a T3 or T4 I intend on doing it in a location I'm crazy about!

12/04/09- Really thinking I should have wised up and applied to more of these schools PT, I think I would have a much better chance at them.

12/15/09- Everything has gone complete, and a good while ago at that. It seems like everything has stalled though, all quiet on the western front...too quiet.

12/18/09 Two for two. I really am quite happy about UMKC. Not the most prestigious school, but excellent bar passage rates and a great city! .500 is not all that bad to be carrying into what I see as at least a 2 week bye-week here.

12/19/09 Dinged at MSU. It's Big 10 so the campus would have been fun. However going back to the state of Michigan coupled with another for profit law school wasn't my preference to start. Oh well.

12/24/09 Christmas came early from Toledo and even more so from Tulsa! Nice over .500 again.

1/2/10 Ding ding ding goes the trolley! Happy new year to you Louisville. ha.

1/8/10 No go at Loyola. Hey you guys sent me the fee waiver so I didn't mind wasting your time, haha. I saw this one coming the minute I submitted!

1/11/10 First waitlist. I really like UST. I hope they give me a chance. Waitlists leave you with a strange taste in your mouth I must say.

1/15/10 Went to change Hamline to a reject and realized that I forgot to add them to my list, hell I forgot I even applied there! Also status checker changed to decision made at St. Louis. Nothing on the deposit side so I think that means "rejection letter sent" hopefully not but it would fit in line with everything else.

1/23/10 First T1 school, hell yeah!

1/26/10 Thanks, but no thanks says Stetson. Well you dropped off the T1 list this year so we're even. The warm weather sure would have been nice though.
Record to date: 6-7-1

1/27 Waitlist at Marquette. Crap. Still my number one, however I am guessing this going to pan out like a bad romantic comedy. I'll hold out as long as I can hoping that maybe I'll get in. The time will come when I have to move on to whatever school I have sent a deposit to. I'll rent an apartment, my wife will find a new job, we'll just be moving the boxes in and I'll finally get a call from Marquette, you're the one we've wanted all along. That day will be sometime in August 2010, I'm calling it. Too little too late.

1/28 In light of my recent Marquette waitlist I withdrew from Toledo and will be taking a hard look at my other schools. I'm hoping for a little good karma. Godspeed Toledo, and all the hopeful throngs that may want my spot.

1/31 What took Mississippi so long? This was a forgone conclusion months ago. William Mitchell surprised the hell out of me though, thought that was a gimmie. Records not too hot right now, oh well.

2/2/10 Trying to set the bar by withdrawing from schools early that I am not truly considering. If everyone on here would do the same I think we would all be able to breath alot easier. If you have what you consider better options, swallow that little part of your ego and let the other seat go to someone who wants it.

2/11/10 Withdrew from SIU. Had to admit I did it with a twinge of regret. Not so much because they gave me a scholarship, but because they were the first ones to accept me with open arms (and a phone call from the dean). Kinda like breaking up with your first gf. I hope someone else can get my seat and my scholly that is really hoping for it.

Not in but NOT out letter from WVU saying they're holding my file to review when they get more applicants/ time. They've only had it for FOUR months so that seems understandable... oh and they made certain to tell me I'm NOT waitlisted. If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck then what is it WVU?

2/25/10 Withdrew from St. Mary's, I just can't see myself traveling that far for law school. Plus I am one of .1% of Americans that enjoy Northeast/ Midwest winters

3/8/10 Finally got my ding from Wisconsin, really guys, it took you long enough. Not surprised in the least.

3/10 Really Northern IL? Wow, your loss.

3/16 Withdrew from Tulsa, just couldn't warm up to the idea of living in Oklahoma. I hope someone else can get my seat and scholly.

4/1 Withdrew from John Marshall. Really wish I would have done this earlier. I knew the day I got in I did not intend on attending. Better now then never though.

4/7 Receieved a waitlist reaffrimation request email from Marquette. I hope this means that they will open their waitlist this year, but we'll just wait and see.

4/12 Withdrew from UMKC. Liked the town alot, the school looked friendly enough but I think I would be better off at SLU. Still holding out for some waitlists though, hopefully they might come through. Starting to sell plasma now to afford SLU tuition...

4/13 Offered to be on Wyoming's waitlist. Like the idea of being close to excellent snowboarding and mountain biking, don't like the idea of waiting out a school that I don't intend on attending and taking up someone elses possible waitlist acceptence.

4/14 New rankings are out. Ho ho young man, not so fast! Your exuberance from 1/23? Misguided! TTT for life. Eh, I still like the school and see the lower Top 100 (T2) to be fairly fluid. I'm sure the crap economy didn't help their placement score this year.

5/3 Out at West Virginia via status checker. High fives all around for the fast turn around time on apps guys! Marquette opens it's first (LSN confirmed) waitlist seat, let's see what happens.

5/21 If there is a supposed "cascade effect" that impacts waitlists I sure haven't seen anything. This is looney tunes, and not in a reggaeton sort of way.

5/26 2nd Marquette waitlist reaffrimation.

6/8 Marquette's 2nd desposit was on the 1st of June. No movement. At this point I'm just trying to record useful information for posterity.

6/9 I sent in my 2nd deposit to SLU a few days ago. I know that all the adcoms recieve a list of who has deposited where. I would still be willing to loose the money if I got into MU, it truly makes the most sense for me in terms of marketability and future practice. Perhaps seeing my name on the acceptence list of (what I would consider at least) an educational contemporary would give the adcoms less reason for pause. Either way I will be going to a fine institution and WILL be an excellent student and hopefully an even better attorney.

6/10 Email from IU-Indy indicating that there will be minimal, if any, additional movement on the waitlist. I admire their candor and wish all schools would be this forthcoming with their applicants. This is a horrid year for waitlisters, everyone is trying to hide out the recession in law school (a poor choice for those not TRULY commited to practicing).

6/29 Withdrew from IU-Indy today. It just wouldn't be feasible at this point to wait this one out. I'm still hanging on the MU waitlist in hopes of some last second miracle. I know there is going to be minimal movement from here on out for the waitlists, but hopefully my withdrawal will do some good for someone.

7/11 Withdrew from St. Thomas U. At this point in the game I couldn't justify having to quickly accept a school sight unseen if I happened to get pulled off the waitlist. At this point my only waitlist left is Marquette, which coincidentally sent out it's 3rd reaffirmation of waitlist intent email today.

8/01 I get the impression that my wait list experience is coming to an inconclusive and disappointing ending. I'm still holding out hope against hope, but this late in the cycle it's probably a pipe dream. It seems like WL acceptences come in waves in mid/late May, mid June, late July. It's now August...ugh. I think the scarlet "C" branded on my academic cheek, faded as it may be by the years of absence, is still proving too much for many adcoms and deans.

8/26 Finally punched out on Marquette. Hung in there until the very end. I really put my all into that app and the follow up (LOCI's, visits, etc) but to no avail. To all applying to Marquette, next fall make sure your numbers are above reproach. It seems that your softs will mean very little in the grand scheme of things. Still there will be schools that will look at your entire application, so don't loose heart if your #1 gives you the boot.

How come you are not applying to UW- Madison? We're applying to a lot of the same schools so I'll keep an eye on you. However, you #'s are better than mine... oops. Is this your 2nd cycle?

Sunday, September 13 2009 at 08:00 PM

Hi. Just wondering what was so bad about your experience at Cooley?

SIU
Sunday, February 01 2009 at 07:00 PM

Yeah, it feels great to have one acceptance, congrats to you as well. I just wish all the other schools had such quick turnarounds!

Cooley
Wednesday, December 17 2008 at 07:00 PM

I didn't apply to Cooley but I did apply to other safe schools. What happened at Cooley and why was it such a bad choice. I guess I have been telling myself that it's up to the student to succeed and do well no matter what. Was it really a bad school??? Let me know and CONGRATS on your first acceptance! I am sure you will get some others! I am just like you in that I just want ONE acceptance (but prefer a whole bunch! ;-) )

thanks!
Wednesday, December 17 2008 at 07:00 PM

haha. Thanks! I am sooo happy! They sent me an e-mail but also Diana called me. She is the assistant director of admissions. I met her personally at a law day in Kansas City and she is pretty much the reason I even applyed so I'm not sure if they are calling everyone or if she just called me because she sort of knows me. THANKS AGAIN! I'm so happy... you have NO idea!

Tuesday, December 23 2008 at 07:00 PM

loved the comment about Ramen Noodles and Chicago on Phi4life940's wall- so funny! Congrats on the acceptance.. more will follow- You are so brave to go through this crap again... If I were you I would have taken my box and gone under the bridge! lol what was so bad about Cooley? they keep sending me stuff in the mail. ugh

Tuesday, December 23 2008 at 07:00 PM

HAHAHAHAAAA point taken! LOL well I'm not going there!

Don't worry about UofA.
Wednesday, December 17 2008 at 07:00 PM

Hey. Don't get down on yourself about Arkansas. They have a really ignorant and dumb way of doing admissions. They use a formula. Honestly, what law school today says "we realize that the LSAT is not an accurate way to determine how you will perform in law school but because we're lazy and don't want to consider a candidates ENTIRE package we're just going to look at the LSAT score and your UGPA." I can't figure out why they do that. Don't worry about it. Seriously, I have been a hogs fan ALL my life but they lost a little bit of me when they pulled that crap. Keep your head up!

Ark
Friday, October 02 2009 at 08:00 PM

Yeah, not all that surprised or really all that bummed. I've heard good things about it but there are other places I'd rather go than UA. It also didn't help with the huge surge of apps this cycle as the letter indicated.

Friday, January 30 2009 at 07:00 PM

Best of luck fellow UW buddy, go Badgers. I was rejected last year by UW law, and I don't think I really want to spend any more time in Madison, so no worries if you dont get in.

arkansas
Wednesday, December 17 2008 at 07:00 PM

So basically UofA in fayettville does a math problem (your LSAT score plus your GPA times some number) and if it isn't above a certain number than you are rejected. When I did mine I was three points off so I was going to get rejected if I submitted an app. I even called and said "so let me get this straight...you're the only law school that ignores everything except for GPA and LSAT score!?!?" She basically said "yes." If you don't meet that number you either have to be from Arkansas (where it is lowered) or you have to have cured cancer I guess. They said less than 1% of people who don't meet their minimum number get in. Just an ignorant process. I was so pissed but whatever...I'm over it.

Marquette
Tuesday, November 03 2009 at 07:00 PM

Yup, I went to U of I. I applied FT to Marquette, the letter I got was a little envelope which of course I wasn't expecting much from. It turned out to be a more to come acceptance letter and I got a full packet a few days ago. I see we have a lot of the same schools so Good Luck!

No prob. Like you, this is my second application cycle so I know how important it is to withdraw. Good luck with the rest of your cycle.

Wednesday, December 17 2008 at 07:00 PM

Hey man. Thanks alot for the words of wisdom. I needed that. It sounds childish but I didn't apply to UMKC because of something their Dean said to me at a law fair. I asked if they honored the LSAC fee waiver (as I asked every other school the same thing) and he looked at me up and down and said "We only give fee waivers to people who need them." And I said...I had to send financial records proving that I'm very financially poor (maybe not those exact words but you get the idea) and he looked at me again with a weird look on his face as if because I was white I was wealthy and said "well...we seldom give them out." I'm thinking...it's automatic at each school and he's being a huge racist right to my face. As if, if I were black he wouldn't have said that you know? It just really pissed me off and I felt like if that was their mentality I didn't want to have anything to do with them.... and I hate missouri. lol But like I said. Thanks for being helpful with your words. They really helped man.

Keep Your Head Up!
Sunday, November 01 2009 at 07:00 PM

Thanks for the encouraging post man. You likewise...keep your head up..your numbers are good. You will get in somewhere. To be honest, this whole process has left me with a sick feeling about applying to law school. Such a huge money making game! Kudos to you for enduring it a second time.

ding
Tuesday, November 17 2009 at 07:00 PM

lol, i call myself dingmachine b/c of my numbers. suffice to say i had a lot of hardship during school (home invasion robberies, death of family members, etc.) and it was piled on one after the other. BUT, it looks like some adcomms are seeing past it which is good. best of luck on the rest of your cycle!

Friday, December 05 2008 at 07:00 PM

the same thing about Stetson! And +1 on the warm weather and the beautiful campus. Good luck to ya for the rest of the cycle, especially getting back in to your UG.

Did you receive your scholarship info with acceptance letter or seperate? Just got my letter today, but won't be able to attend wo some support. Thanks for the info

I know I need to be more optimistic- I'm just worried because I'm international and they don't take that many of us!

Tuesday, June 09 2009 at 08:00 PM

Hey so I got into UMKC too. How long did it take you to receive their packet they called and said Iwas in and set up an interview for a scholarship. They also said I'd get a packet in the mail but that was like two weeks ago

agreed
Tuesday, October 27 2009 at 08:00 PM

yeah i totally appreciate them doing that. it sits well with me (obviously)and says a lot about their school. best of luck with the rest of your cycle and congrats on your successes.

SLU
Tuesday, June 09 2009 at 08:00 PM

SLU has a really great patent law area and is very well received around the Missouri area especially St. Louis. However, it is double the state schools. Thanks for ur insight into UMKC Good Luck with the rest of your cycle!

WVU
Monday, December 21 2009 at 07:00 PM

ah thats ok, i had to at least ask, lol. I got in to Appalachian today. SO happy, but still keeping my fingers crossed for WVU. Don't have family there, but I know about 10 people that go there right now. Plus I went to Marshall (in state rival) for undergrad so I'd be going over to the dark side, lol.

Good luck!
Saturday, January 23 2010 at 07:00 PM

Good luck on the rest of your cycle! And I agree about withdrawing from schools you know deep down inside you aren't going to attend : )

Got the same letter from WVU. I don't really understand what they are trying to say. Maybe they are just slow and are trying to buy more time.

Good Luck
Monday, February 15 2010 at 07:00 PM

Hey, love your post from 2/2/10! Although I am not withdrawing from my WL universities ESPECIALLY not from Marquette, I feel the same way. But I hope I can be accepted somewhere closer to home (in IL). I am shocked about NIU decision about your application. I've seen some crazy stats on this web site this cycle. So, good luck to you with everything!

Re:
Wednesday, November 18 2009 at 07:00 PM

Yeah, it's hard but it is the right thing to do instead of taking up a seat to potentially someone's dream school. Good luck on your final decision!

Re: ?
Tuesday, October 27 2009 at 08:00 PM

Nope, my numbers are all real and actual. I'd like to think that political leanings don't fit anywhere into their decisions and that they would look at my ability to self start and lead independent of what my ideological basis might be. My guess is that it has more to do with Cooley than anything. Having that anywhere on your record is the (legal) educational equivalent of hooking up with someone with the clap. You might be clean, but try convincing your next partner that's the case. It's an uphill battle.

Marquette
Sunday, April 12 2009 at 08:00 PM

Congrats on your acceptances thus far! I am hoping Marquette pulls me off of the waitlist. I got the same email on 4/7. Do you think they sent that to everyone?

re: Good Choice
Sunday, November 01 2009 at 07:00 PM

Thanks man. Yes, it was hard turning down Big Red, but I went there for undergrad and want something different. Chicago is a great city and Loyola Chicago seems like a great school so I'm completely happy with my choice. Your "having the clap" analogy is funny but you are probably very right. Despite that, you seem to be handling it like a champ! Good luck man!

Re: SLU
Saturday, May 16 2009 at 08:00 PM

The sticker price did worry me. I am looking to focus on Health Law, so I contacted the school and found out that since the Health Law program is #1 nationally, the start pay is higher than the school's median start salary (by about $20K per year). This put most of my nerves to rest. Also, the current placement rate is over 92% even with bum economy this year...and I really just liked the school. It was tough not getting any scholarship $$$ the first year, but I've heard that they give more $$$ in the 2nd and 3rd year based on end-of-year placements. It is good to hear from a potential classmate...I was getting worried being the only "A" for Attending. Thought I would get it started.

That makes sense. I have a feeling that I will be stuck on this waitlist until I get the dreaded letter "We regret to inform you..". I am just surprised I haven't seen anything yet considering part time app deadline was on the 1st as well. Time to start making other plans. I won't withdraw but I need to start finding plan B.

I really appreciate it. It's been a looonnnggg ride my friend but it couldn't have worked out better. SLU's legit for sure! I've talked to several people from the area as well as 2 recent SLU law grads, and everyone says that it's right up there with Wash U. With an excellent regional reputation, an awesome city to live in and great job prospects, I couldn't ask for more. I guess I'll be seeing you in the fall.

Didn't get the 3rd reaffirmation email. Sucks!

I read that someone got accepted off of Marquette's waitlist on 7/29/2010. She received a phone call asking if she was still interested. After the call she got an email saying she was accepted. She said her deposit is due on Friday August 6, 2010. This was reported on TLS. It seems they are still accepting a few folks.
