Did you receive any advice about re-applying from the admin office? I was waitlisted for the full-time program and am wondering if re-applying to the part time would be more succesful?
When re-applying did you just fill out a new app and send an update letter (addendum as they put it). I know they keep your previous application/ materials on file. Not sure if a new personal statement is necessary? Sorry for all the questions!
Why are you not applying to UW Madison? Do know you know something outsiders don't??
I'm currently a 1L at SLU...If you have any questions about SLU as the year goes on, feel free to email me. There are pros and cons to every campus and law school, and I'm willing to answer anything that might help you make your decision! I applied to a lot of the same schools your are applying to...so I might be able to help answer questions about them too.
Application Sent! let the wait begin!... Again!
I'm currently in my 6th week at SLU. I really do like it here. It is an intense workload, but with discipline and time management, you can get everything done. Location: I grew up in rural Indiana, and lived in a medium-sized Indiana city (200,000 people) for a few years. For how big it is, St Louis is a very friendly and fairly easy city to get around. The running joke is that you can get anywhere in St Louis in under 20 minutes, and typically it is pretty true. Also, something I didn't expect is that there are lots of free/very cheap concerts, festivals, etc going on here. The city is sort of Midwestern and sort of Southern. It has a Southern Hospitality feel. It is similar to Indianapolis, Louisville, Kansas Cityit is not the high-paced Chicago, NYC, Boston type city. It does have Arts & Culture like some of these big cities, but it is pretty friendly and slow-paced outside of the skyscraper/downtown area. Another running joke is that everyone in St Louis (restaurants, grocery stores, etc) will ask you what HS or undergrad you attended. People open doors for you, pick up things youve dropped, etc. I like it, but a lot of law students (in general), want the high-paced, corporate lawyer feel. My general comments about SLU: -All law schools are required to have 1 small section (25 people or less) during your first year of classes; a few schools, like SLU, believe that you should have 2 small section classes. This is AWESOME! I only have 25 people in 2 of my 5 classes. This really helps you to learn/synthesize information better. -SLU is team/group oriented. SLU seems to support studying in groups, discussing class cases with each other, etc. This is reinforced by 2 small sections because you know your section members even better. I study about 20-30 hours a week by myself and 8-10 hours with a group. (Because there is more group studying and reliance, the competitive vibe is lower than at many other schools I visited. It is a nice relief for me, but some people thrive in a more cut-throat environment). -Although on a religious campus, you don't really notice it in the law school (other than the optional weekly mass). Its there if you want it, but its not there if you dont. -SLU is a good choice if you are thinking about Health law, Business/Trans Law, Environ Law, Public Interest/Policy...and maybe Sports or IP Law. The first four areas are VERY strong compared to other school...and the last two are pretty strong compared to other schools. If you arent sure what areas you prefer, thats pretty typical here as well. I feel like theres so many different options that you wont get stuck not having something you want to pursue. Well thats probably a good amount for nowIf you have any other specific questions, feel free to askjust thought Id give an overview.
Do you remember how long it took for your app to go complete at Marquette? I havnt heard anything yet in the form of 'we got your application'.
Thats exciting your app went complete at Marquette!! Good luck! Im sure you will hear soon!
I was looking at applicants to Loyola Chicago and as a fellow URM I wanted to say good luck! I retook the LSAT against my better judgment in October and so I await the scores so that they can finally start looking at my app.
Hey, Seems like we both applied to many of the same schools. Good luck.
No I still have not gotten the complete email! I just got my score on Friday. Should I call?? They seem to be already issuing decisions!
Ok you convinced me! I sent them an email. I think I am also going to go to a prospective students session to learn more about the school. In your experience were you able to talk one on one with admissions staff?
Thank you for your comment! I have considered Mizzou, but I have owned my home in Kansas City for less than a year, so trying to move and sell seems fairly bleak. I do love Mizzou and feel they have a great program. Just, at the time being, staying at UMKC is more feasible. Plus, they have several areas of emphasis that interest me. Thank you again for your post! Good luck at Mizzou!
How long did it take for your PT Loyola app to go complete and in review?? Any word from Marquette yet? You should be hearing soon!! :)
Wow I hope I dont have to wait that long for Loyola! I was actually born in Wales and grew up in Scotland, right outside of Glasgow. All of my family lives there so i visit quite frequently! I love it!
CONGRATS!!!!!!! YOU GOT IN!!!! i am SO happy for you!!! i just hope my letter arrives soon as well! :(
Congrats on Marquette especially after the waitlist last year, i too got waitlisted at my top school last year so you give me hope! its so nice to hear success stories!!!!
congrats on the big acceptance to Marquette! Good luck in law school!
are the one's I'm really hoping to get into. Those are the 4 I have at the top of my list...
Congrats on Marquette!!! I know you are set to go with a good law school but have you considered taking the Dec LSAT? With a 3.7 GPA a 155 would open so many doors for you. Either way congrats and stay blessed!
Still nothing! Not sure if that is a good or bad sign.. people have already been rejected and waitlisted that went complete around the same time I did...thoughts??
Just got the waitlist letter today. I cant believe it..not sure what to do , i obviously filed out the form saying yes to remain on the waitlist but I dont know how i can go through that again!
Yea I was on it until August as well. I also got deferred for further review at Chicago Kent today which is basically another waitlist. Not sure what to do but wait at this point. John Marshall is my last choice, I got accepted there last cycle and deferred till next fall. Im hoping I hear something positive from Loyola as well..who knows :(
I just sent the admissions staff an email asking if I could be considered for the part time evening program as I applied part time day. Im hoping this will increase my chances.. I would do anything to go there!!Did you apply part time evening??
Hey, how come you haven't considered Howard University? Just curious...
Congrats on your cycle. I will be applying to Marquette as well since I live close by.
Did your status change to decision made for loyola? Feeling weary about Marquette so im hoping other schools pull through!
Yes I also applied Part Time. Im a little worried because some people received acceptance emails whereas I received a general email about receiving a decision soon. Knowing my luck, probably another waitlist or rejection! Fingers crossed..
i see you're accepted into the MU part-time program! congratulations! just graduated from there in 2010; started in their part-time program. enjoy it :)
Forget Marquette. Be smart, take the money and go to mizzou.:-)
Wow, I am surprised you were rejected at NIU and accepted to some other very good schools. Good luck to you!
Thank you for the info!! Still holding on to Marquette but Im not getting my hopes up. Good luck and enjoy the school!!
3.7 with a 150 and urm and you got rejected from all those schools?? something is not right. That must be your Masters gpa. Those are always high. Please put your undergrad gpa on here and lets keep things more accurate! You know that they look at the undergrad gpa alot more closely. Thats why a school like SIU would decline you. For a 3.7 it doesnt make sense.
We appear to have went through the exact same experience! I was also waitlisted at Marquette (my top choice) and am re-applying this cycle. Good Luck!!
