Additional info & updates

Now that the school year has started, I must admit I am utterly impressed with Vanderbilt. It was definitely the right choice for me. The professors are accessible yet brilliant. The students are very social. Overall, this is shaping up to be my best academic experience yet.

Scholarships:

Wake Forest emailed a notice of the Dean's Scholarship which covers full tuition. I have withdrawn however.

Wake Forest emailed an invitation to apply for the Charles P. Rose Scholarship valued up to $10,000 (yearly I suppose).

Vanderbilt came via letter. $10,000 annual need-based award with no academic strings attached. Yay, I can't lose the money!!!!

UNC came via email. Chancellors Scholarship, highest scholarship at UNC. $12,500 per year for a total value of $37,500 for three years. Makes it an even sweeter deal if there is any chance at residency for years two and three. UNC sent the same letter via postal mail as well. Go Tarheels!

William & Mary came in a small envelope. Fellowship. They are waiving out of state tuition and giving me a $4000 stipend for a total value of $42,000 over three years. Total cost of attending would be around $30,000 for all three years.

Acceptances:

Vanderbilt came via postal mail, in a scarily small envelope.

UNC came via email, followed by the Chancellors Scholar email. This was followed by an identical letter in the US Postal service.

Wake Forest came USPS in a large white envelope with green trim. Included was the acceptance letter, dean cert form, and postcard to return as a letter of intention.

William & Mary came in a very large white and blue USPS envelope. Included was a large green W&M folder with acceptance letter, open house information, and a book with lots of info about the law school.

Rejections:

Texas came USPS in a very thin white envelope.

Michigan came USPS in a very thin white envelope.

Penn came USPS in a very thin white envelope.

Virginia came USPS in a very thin cream envelope.

Cornell came USPS in a very thin cream envelope.

Duke came USPS in a very thin envelope.

Waitlists:

Virginia came via thin letter. "Allegedly" they sent me an e-mail earlier offering me a waitlist position. However, I think they are not entirely truthful in this.

Duke notification came via the postal service in a thin envelope on beautiful Duke Law letterhead. Lol.

Northwestern notification came via e-mail. Actual waitlist letter was through their online status check in a PDF file.

Deferrals:

Cornell deferral #2 came USPS in a very thin white envelope with a postcard to return. Yet again, no stamp.

Penn came USPS in a very thin white envelope.

Cornell came USPS in a very thin white envelope with a postcard to return.

Duke came via email.

Waitlist Movements:

6-15 received an email from Northwestern stating I am on the shortened summer waitlist and that approx. 20-25% of the SSW allegedly get offered admission. We shall see.

5-17 received an email from Dean Hoye offering the possibility of starting in the summer at Duke.

Nevermind... jerked around again by Duke.

Where did you go to B-School?

ChlorasepticRelief - I am doing my MBA online through City University because it is the only school that lets me sit for the CFP exam and get an MBA... now the adcomms know for sure who this account is for, lol. So dont ding me I love you all! Total Coward - It would be nice to get in, but we'll see... Nikki... I didn't actually apply for the waivers. I just made my info available to law schools when I signed up for LSDAS and the waivers just started coming...presumably based on the LSAT and GPA scores. I didn't apply for any of the income based waivers...

i'm suprised you were rejected by texas. you have good numbers and good soft factors. i'm not so suprised that i was rejected, however. i can see you getting into all the other schools on your list. good luck.

so sorry

about Texas, they are silly. But you will have a good time at Duke regardless!!!

I'm predicting some big acceptances to make up for their obvious mistake. Good luck! We should hear from Cornell soon.

Congrats

No, they haven't emailed me... I hope this isn't a bad sign... :(

Cornell stuff
Tuesday, August 23 2005 at 08:00 PM

A little late, but it went to decision, then back to ea complete, then back to decision. I called the office and they told me I was EA-Reserve... which then the letter in the mail said basically means they won't reconsider until after regular decisions.

wow
Sunday, October 02 2005 at 08:00 PM

I can't believe you straight up got rejected at Texas. That means I'm really screwed.

Re: aggieJD
Tuesday, August 23 2005 at 08:00 PM

Yeah it is quite disheartening. I feel kinda short changed...judging on last year's data, a lot of people should have already had acceptances. I just hope they send an acceptance soon... I really do love Vandy, despite getting upset with them a lot recently... lol

Penn Final Decision

SD, Sorry to hear about Penn. I'm sure my notice is close behind.

your rankings
Friday, January 27 2006 at 07:00 PM

are confusing me. Are you planning on staying in nc or the South? If so, then why do you want to go to duke? I'd say vu or unc what ever is cheaper. However, you can't beat unc's network instate. It's extremely condense and powerful. Wake gets unc's scraps for students and jobs. It's a great school, but carolina is on another level.

My rankings are all over the board. I would like to go to Duke or UVA #1... but I highly doubt I get into UVA, and moderately doubt I get into Duke. Duke is number one for two reasons... neither one of which are very good when thinking about it. #1 - Its a T14. #2 - It's been my favorite ever since high school... Thus I have Vanderbilt as my #1 realistic choice. However, after getting into UNC with $$$, it is going to be a difficult decision. After school, I really really want to go to NC... unless a great opportunity opens up somewhere else in the south. But I do love NC.

yeah!

i bet you're likin' that vandy love. :o) Congrats SD.

UVA - Great school. Very high on my list but thus far I've not considered it simply becase I don't think I will get in. NWU I don't really care if I do or don't because I don't want to go to Chicago. Cornell... I also am unsure of. Duke I would love...still semi-hoping on that one.

Tuesday, August 23 2005 at 08:00 PM

You do have a good point. Why DO I go on LSD and ask all these questions to a bunch of ugrad kids that have no real job experience? Having said that... I highly doubt you have any idea how to break into I-Banking either, there genius...

Re: Withdrawing soon
Tuesday, August 23 2005 at 08:00 PM

I intend to withdraw from the schools I know I am not going to as soon as I receive financial aid offers from those schools.

so, it looks like we're #s twins now. :o)

Wake
Sunday, December 11 2005 at 07:00 PM

Hey I was "defered" from wake.. i'm wondering what the numbers will be like.. do you know where you will be going? or do you think you'll withdraw from any soon? By the way- Congrats on so many acceptances!

Re:wake
Sunday, December 11 2005 at 07:00 PM

i'm not sure about wake.. i think its more like a "priority waitlilst" which i'm not shocked about, i really screwed up my lsat. i think i would go there over temple.. but i'm still waiting to hear from a bunch of schools... so we'll see..

wake again.. haha
Sunday, December 11 2005 at 07:00 PM

congrats on money from vandy! thats huge.. wondering, have you withdrawn from wake? also.. you seem to know lots of people applying.. do you think they will even go to their priority waitlist?

Re: Aggie
Tuesday, August 23 2005 at 08:00 PM

I think Vandy has been my number one choice all along, keeping financial considerations out of the picture. Taking into account the money situation, UNC is clearly an unbelievable deal. I am wrestling between what I think is the more "responsible" thing to do, versus what I want to do... not necessarily responsible, but I guess risk-averse... :|

Re: Waiting
Tuesday, August 23 2005 at 08:00 PM

I am actually filling out the withdrawal forms for W&M as we speak. I will also withdraw from WFU as soon as I get a fin aid offer from them if everything goes as expected there. UNC I am not withdrawing just yet because I am not entirely sure just yet. And fwiw, it doesn't matter if I withdraw realistically until after first seat deposits are due.

me too
Thursday, December 22 2005 at 07:00 PM

i'm all but decided as well, even tho I havent rcved most of my decisions yet. it makes the wait much more bearable, tho, bc i know i have a highly attractive offer as security... i'm sure you feel the same way... i do want to visit vandy, tho. you've made it sound amazing. it used to be considered a huge party school, tho. do you think that still holds true?

Thanks!
Monday, February 13 2006 at 07:00 PM

For wdrawing from W&M. :) I know I don't really have a chance there, but I am hoping that if enough of you awesome people wdraw, I can at least make the wl. Congrats on yur decision, must have been tough. We'll see if UVa can throw a wrench in things. ;)

Re: Total Coward
Tuesday, August 23 2005 at 08:00 PM

Thanks for the support... I think. Lol

hi
Friday, October 21 2005 at 08:00 PM

Hello numbers twin, know where you're headed?

Seriously
Tuesday, August 23 2005 at 08:00 PM

Lets see... I've only gotten into 4 schools...2 of which I have withdrawn from. And I'll be withdrawing from UNC shortly...just want to make extra sure on this.

Hmmm
Tuesday, August 23 2005 at 08:00 PM

Ok let's see... I paid MY money to get MY decisions so I will take MY time to decide on MY future by choosing the school that is right for ME. Now just because I am not 100% sure just yet, albeit about 99% sure... let's go cry about how selfish I am. How about if you are so upset that I am holding onto an acceptance that you think has any bearing on your future, why don't YOU go take the LSAT again and improve your score, take some night classes and raise your gpa, or whatever YOU have to go to get into the school YOU want... and if you had any tact at all, you'd post your name instead of being anonymous.

...
Tuesday, August 23 2005 at 08:00 PM

I'm not trying to be uppity or putting you down...I am just trying to make this decision which is pretty hard considering I have to take into account whether my wife can get a job in the area of the law school, whether or not I would get NC residency, etc. etc. etc. Yes, I am pretty much decided on Vanderbilt... I am waiting to get my official fin. aid from UNC before I withdraw there. But... I subscribe to the notion that withdrawals really won't matter unless a lot of people withdraw before seat deposits....seat deposits are really where the schools get an idea of what's going on. At any rate, good luck in all of this and I'll be withdrawing very soon I am sure.

Wake
Thursday, December 22 2005 at 07:00 PM

I'm headed over in late July/early August, most likely (the worst time of year, but oh well). I've got a place already as well. It took me about 3 trips to find it, too. I may do without a roommate for the 1st semester, then try to find one 2nd semester after I get to know everyone. Considering how small Wake's class is, there are a surprising # of soon-to-be attendees on LSD.

Finally
Thursday, December 22 2005 at 07:00 PM

heard from Vandy. They're so freaking nice there that I hate turning them down!
