Extra Curricular Information

Decent in high school speech & debate. For those in "the know," I won Harvard, the Glenbrooks (twice), finaled at Emory (twice) and finaled at NCFL Nationals.

Coached a few speech & debate students for one year at my alma matter after graduating high school. One of my students went on to the final round of NFL Nationals that year.

A staff writer for Ocean Drive Magazine where I interviewed musicians including Mary J. Blige, Lil Kim, Black Rob, BT & the singer from Hooverphonic.

A summer in Jerusalem, Israel studying Religion & Politics with government officials and local scholars. It was not a safe place to be in 2001.

A year in Los Angeles studying improvisational comedy at the Groundlings school. Alumni include Will Ferrel, Phil Hartman, John Luvitz, Molly Shannon and the guy who does the Falconer on SNL.

Black, Srebnick, Kornspan & Stumpf paralegal from October 2005 to August 2007.

Additional info & updates

My cycle will show that I was a dreamer.

Ideally, I would clerk for a federal judge after graduating and then move to a federal office of the public defender (preferably in Miami).

Alternatively, I would join the state office of the public defender (preferably in Miami) and try to transfer to the federal office.

All would be training for private practice.

Unless I choose to represent athletes in the National Football League.

Sent seat deposit to Hofstra (4/11/07).

The warm weather and sun would be nice, plus the latin community down there is awesome. Are fluent in Spanish?

The more I think about it, the more pissed I am I didn't kick that tests @ss. I was killing my practice tests but I didn't deliver on test day. Oh well. That is life. Where are these acceptance letters already? Getting anxious.

Question
Tuesday, November 28 2006 at 07:00 PM

So, I've noticed that quite a few people have taken down identifying info (i.e. scores, ECs, etc.). Is it safe to assume that this is to prevent lurking admissions officers from gleaning more info from applicants? Or is there some other rationale? Just curious. I am rather paranoid by nature and am toying with the idea of taking down my info too. I don't feel like I have much to hide but I don't know that I really need to have all that info exposed anyhow. Thoughts?

Yeah, the admissions are rolling. Not sure when I will hear from them. Must mean they can't make their mind up on my app.

Thank you

Hopefully you will be hearing some good news as a Christmas gift. I know an attorney who went to Quinnipiac. He ended up going back to school and studying Psych and now does evaluations of people to see if they are fit to stand trial.

Still...

It's great to get that first acceptance out of the way, but it still doesn't alleviate the suspense like I thought it might.

Thanks...

...for the condolences. I'm starting to go insane waiting for decisions from ANY school in the target/safety catagory. My poor damn nerves.

hey man...gl with your apps. but just wondering...whats up with this "paranoia" you cite? i haven't heard anything about it...perhaps i should take down my info?

Congrats

Congrats on Hofstra, hopefully the rest of your applications turn out as well.

Congrats!!!

What made you apply to Hofstra? I'm considering it...

Re: Informer

I guess I joined the site as a way of keeping track of my application process. I disagree with you about whether or not my information will help next year's applicants. I have considered the options you gave me and decided to go with neither. I'm not posting my details, as I stated, until all the decisions have been received, and I'm not deleting my info because, as I said before, it helps me keep track of my applications. If this helps, though, my GPA is below a 3.0, and my LSAT is above 155. That's all I got for you, until, of course, all my decisions have been received.

Also, if you PM me on LawSchoolDiscussion, I'll send you my numbers, if that will help.

for the congrats! i applied to H (it's hidden tho, lol) only bc my mom made me and paid for it. i don't expect to get in. my stats are respectable, but not great. i am very happy about the decisions i've gotten and feel very blessed. i wish you success with the rest of your cycle! ~mcb

How?

HOw do you know I don't own a pug yet? Am I that transparent?! I plan on getting one during law school, hoping for pug friendly campus/living situation. Do they require as much attention as people say?

I wish they would have, but they said it was the regular waitlist. I'll probably withdraw my application from the list and focus on financial aid from the others. Goodluck with your app and hopefully you'll get good news soon!

What's in DC anyway?
Friday, October 20 2006 at 08:00 PM

I guess you're right... Thing is I expected more from myself, and underperforming on the LSAT didn't help. I thought I'd at least get to impress them with my other stuff, but no luck doing that either. I'm jus a little disappointed, that's all. On the other hand, I never seriously considered Gtown in the first place - it was just another reach school to add to the list. I'm really hoping Boalt will still come through, though I'm not very optimistic about my chances at this point. I guess attending BU/Fordham/ whoever else takes me wouldn't be the end of the world... Good luck to you too! You may still be surprised by Georgetown - you really never know. And if not, who gives a damn?!

Hey, I worked my fucking ass off (wake up, work, go to school, study, eat, sleeep and nothing else) to get a high graduate school GPA and prepare for the LSAT's. Just work your ass off in law school and you can transfer anywhere you want or have your pick of jobs. Good luck!

Lewis & Clark
Sunday, February 11 2007 at 07:00 PM

Hey, Im just wondering why you received all the rejections. I believe that if you were granted fee waivers then you should have been accepted. What scares me is that I got a fee waiver from Lewis and Clark just like you did. So am I just going to boost their acceptance rate? I hope not. What are your numbers? Please tell me, I need to know if I can be rejected at a school that grants me a fee waiver and tries to recruit me. Anyways, where are you heading? Good luck wherever you decide to go.

If I hadn't spent a year acting in Los Angeles, I might not have developed a skin thick enough to handle all these rejections. But, I did. No biggie!

Nova is a good little up and coming school. Newer facilities is a benefit and people in the region know it produces a lot of professionals. It seems like a Hofstra type school on its way to becoming like Suffolk is in Boston. My sister goes to Gulf Coast U for UG and is very satisfied. Great area if you like the sun and water, too. Best of luck. I'm still waiting to hear but I love the idea of going to Miami.

No, I have 10 more applications out. I am not leaning towards any school in particular right now...too soon to tell.

Money came about a month after the acceptance. I am pretty sure I'm withdrawing there.

Re: Pending/Decision
Wednesday, December 27 2006 at 07:00 PM

I called FIU and they told me a decision was made on Friday, 3/2 and mailed out on that day... but they couldn't tell me what the decision was. Unfortunately my mail at home is being forwarded so it's adding a couple of days for the transit time! GRR! I want to know now!!!

good luck!

Awesome ECs...glad to see another speech and debate alum remembering the good times. What events?

haha
Friday, March 02 2007 at 07:00 PM

Haha...you guessed it. Only I started out in Congress (my coach threw me in a Senate chamber my first tourney ever) then switched over to LD senior year. I still go and judge quite a bit in LD, Congress and Public Forum, but I miss tourneys so much.

toughness
Friday, March 02 2007 at 07:00 PM

double-entering in LD is tough, I tried it once and never again. I was quite good at Congress and LD but gave a couple IE events a try and it wasn't really my thing. I loved watching the HI's practice though. We loved all the stuff by Christopher Durang!

PSU

I did nothing for PSU... I heard from an AD at a different school that most schools are going to the waitlist.

Hey: I may go to Hofstra too. What is it that is gearing you towards hofstra? Also, I see you have alot of experience in the sports and media field. Are you interested in entertainment law? I am and it would be cool to find someone with similar interests.

I went to an open house and really liked it too. The only thing I did not care for is the law school facilities. It seems a little old and I love Suffolks facilities. So I have to decide which one of these schools to attend. Good luck with your decision.
