Additional info & updates

1/6/08: Just finished my first batch of applications, and man does my list look small compared to some others on here. Then again, what can I say? I am poor. I can only afford to apply to so many schools, and while a 164 LSAT is solid I have some specific regional biases. As of now, I'd be happy to go to any of the schools I've applied to...it sure beats teaching. May still apply to UGA, W&M, and GM.

1/8/08: Another excitingly mundane update. Applied to Temple and GM and received twice as many fee waivers as I expected. I love (those kind of) surprises!

1/11/08: Decided to apply to GW even if I'm not confident in my ability to get in. Also applied to American. Looks like the SO has some nice job leads in the DC area, so I better broaden my search there.

1/18/08: I'm finally going complete at a few places, and have already received one acceptance email. Unfortunately, it was from Florida Coastal (which I wasn't even considering), and unfortunately their email read like a standard "fill in the blank" advertisement. Oh well, I'll get some good news in a month or so.

1/23/08: My dates are a little off because the mail ran a bit slow, but great news! Got my first acceptance today to Wake Forest. Hooray! I finally have a ticket out of teaching!

1/25/08: Wow, I feel like I'm having a fast cycle. Accepted at UMD.

2/2/08 Received an acceptance package from Temple's Beasley School of Law today. While I applied there more for the fee waiver, getting a $15,000 a year scholarship is both nice and worth considering.

2/4/08 Some big news: I just got accepted to GW's law school. I wasn't expecting to get into the full time program, so I applied part time. I was already going to visit the DC area schools this weekend, so call this another place to stop and say hello.

2/25/08 The news pipeline has been quite dry. That being said, I was accepted to American University today, but I am going to go ahead and withdraw my acceptance (if that's what it's called). American was my backup option in DC, and obvious was an option that I did not need.

2/27/08 Adjusted my rankings based on information about the school, location, and my own personal preferences. I have never really been one to go with the crowd, and it would appear that choosing which law school to attend is no exception.

2/28/08 A flat out rejection from GM! I'm a little surprised that it was a straight-up ding, but I don't feel bad about it. The school was starting to really slip off my radar.

3/26/08: Just when I was expecting to not know anything else until April, I get a small envelope from Emory saying I'm on their waitlist. I'm not terribly surprised, considering that it took them so long to get back to me. However, I've had them ranked in my "2nd tier" for how long? No tears here.

4/2/08: My cycle is over...hooray! I guess I did okay. Just got an acceptance email from UNC. While I would rather go to Wake if I decide to stay in state because that would mean that I wouldn't have to relocate, it does bring up what's going to be a deciding factor: financial aid. So far I've only heard from Temple (when I got my acceptance) and American (after I withdrew...ironically). That's going to play a big role for who I'll be mailing my check to on April 15th. I'll post those updates as they come, but for now it's nice to hear from everyone.

4/7/08: Surprising news! Got a half tuition scholarship from Wake. Hooray! Have to stay within the top 2/3 of the class to get full benefit, which could be stressful. But I'm confident! And if I don't make that cut, I still get quarter tuition...so it's not like I lose it. Can I get a sigh of relief?

4/12/08: And now all there is left to do is wait for law school to start. I've visited so many places and have thought long and hard, but Wake, especially with the scholarship, is the best fit. I love UMD's clinical opportunities and GW's campus, but it's Wake for me.

That's a nice list. I'd recommend you apply to at least a few more though just in case.

Good luck to you too! I would definitely suggest applying to UGA. No other college town compares with Athens, undergrad or law.

Yes, very similar numbers... I think that you are right about GWU being a difficult to get into. Still, I'd say you have a good chance.

Hey, thanks! I didn't think I posted enough on TLS to get noticed there. What's your user name on TLS? Your numbers are great and I'm sure you've got way more than a solid shot at Emory. Your cycle also seems to be moving along really quickly. Good luck on everything and yes, we may be classmates at Emory next year.

Why Maryland over UNC
Wednesday, December 12 2007 at 07:00 PM

Hi I am also a NC instate who has been accepted to Maryland, but am still waiting to hear back from UNC and was wondering why you prefer Maryland to UNC. Any info would be great. Congrats on all your success.

Thanks
Wednesday, December 12 2007 at 07:00 PM

Thanks for the info. I too am hearing a lot of negative about UNC and when I called to check on my status they were very rude. Are you planning on attending maryland or are you leaning towards GW??

Maryland
Wednesday, December 12 2007 at 07:00 PM

Just wondering what all you have heard about Maryland and the area??

PT Jobs
Friday, February 08 2008 at 07:00 PM

Congrats on GW. I'm also thinking of going to a PT program in DC and I was wondering what type of job you were planning on getting in the area? I am wary of over committing....

thanks
Wednesday, December 12 2007 at 07:00 PM

Thanks for your support. I think people forget if you are an NC resident its a lot easier to get into NC. I really really like maryland and have to wait until the financial aid package comes out in mid april to see if its realistic. I do know from a source at the law school they are behind but will make decisions by May 1st. Are you planning on going to any of Maryland's addmitted student days in any of the cities?? Good Luck with the rest of the cycle and always nice to hear from a fellow Carolinian.
