congrats on the 165! i think you have an excellent chance of getting into both hastings and davis with a score like that. have a great cycle!

  • Oh wow, fellow Berkeley Grad
  • Thursday, November 01 2007 at 08:06 AM

Hi, I also graduated from Berkeley (this makes me smile). You have much better numbers than me. I didn't do ED at Hastings (I don't think my chances are really that good anyway of getting in there). But I definitely wish you the best of luck getting into your first choice. I wouldn't even bother applying to Golden Gate, the school has major issues, and I don't think you would want to go there (even with a full scholarship). You've got strong numbers, you will get into a top school. Great seeing another bear! Go Bears! (although this season has been one of major disappointments)

  • EC @Hastings
  • Thursday, November 01 2007 at 09:18 PM

I'm hoping the EC helps @Hastings, I figure we're marginal. Of course, your 165 puts you in a much higher % accepted bracket than my 164- one stupid question! Oh well... Best of luck! I'm really excited to hear from them. I'm hoping the LSAT @75th% helps. Living / studying / working in SF would be GREAT! Good luck! I'll update my profile when I get the 'complete' e-mail from them and when I hear anything (probably deferral...).

as far as apps go - except I'm not appying to NYU or Columbia.. Your LSAT score is much better than mine...what's your first choice (do you have one?) Mine is Hastings/Berkeley. Good luck! Maybe I'll be seeing you at the same lawschool!

  • Hastings ED Comment
  • Thursday, November 15 2007 at 05:53 PM

Hastings (and all law schools in general) looks for above median LSAT, GPA, high yield rate and diversity. Your LSAT is above the media LSAT (163); but below the median for GPA (3.57) and your GPA is actually right at the 25% percentile. ED is a good decision on your part. I believe your aceeptance will be decided if you are offering Hastings any diversity and if you have clearly demonstrated (by the classes your have taken and grades thereof, essays, LOR and EC)that you are indeed prepared academically and you have the ability to write, research, read 1K pages per week and analyze. Hastings also looks for the quality of the undergrad. inst. UCB gives you the edge-:)).

  • How Many Schools to Apply?
  • Thursday, November 15 2007 at 06:38 PM

If your objective for going to law schools is about getting a good high paying job after graduation, you have to think hard if you really want to attend a low-tier school if in your case you can't get into a top regional school like Hastings. Make no sense to attend a low rank school, pile on a lot of debts, work hard, and find that there are not much job opportunities out there wanting and be frustrated.

i dont know, i just feel like it is a good fit. i know some people who went there and loved it. i also loved it when i went and saw it. boalt is awesome, but i doubt they would give me the time of day. im really hoping for hastings and hope my LSAT (which is at their 25%) can be overlooked.

Thanks for your good wishes... I don't necessarily have a top choice but I would really love to get into BC/BU. Hastings is certainly up there too. A lot of my buddies from school are from the Bay Area, so I've been up there a few times and absolutely love it.... Good luck w/ the rest of your cycle!

  • Housing
  • Thursday, December 20 2007 at 09:39 AM

San Fran is a great city, I love it. When considering housing options be sure to determine what your priorities are i.e.; living close to campus, networking like you suggested; getting away from school during finals; experiencing san fran and all it has to offer; getting involved in the clinics and the courts; space; etc. BART is a great public transportation system and ideal for students who want to live across the bay in Oakland, Berkeley or Alameda. Be sure to take advantage of all there is while in san fran. Good Luck!

Acceptances after your admittance to a binding Early Decision agreement are each one a rejection for a person who might be dreaming of entering that school.....I can see you are going to be a great lawyer....

Hi, I hope you will be able to help me to get into law school. I am next in line on a waitlist and I noticed you were accepted to the University of St. Thomas, if this isnt your first choice or you are not planning on attending and have indicated in the past that you were planning on attending, could you just send a quick email, indicating your intentions not to go to Law School at the University Of St. Thomas to [email protected] and c.c. [email protected] (thats me) This good deed to help a stranger will Im sure be returned to you at some point. Thanks so much.

  • Davis vs. hastings
  • Tuesday, May 05 2009 at 10:40 AM

Quick Question: Why did you think you were less competitive at Davis than Hastings? A 6.9 index score for Davis almost guarantees admission; its right at the 75% mark. I want to go to Davis, so your results are perplexing to me. Let me know if you have any advice for this future 1L! Ben.
