Receiving application fee waivers via email/snail mail. Got a surprise FW from Baylor upon application payment. But only applying to schools I'd potentially attend. Sorry, Ave Maria.
-Receiving invitations to visit law school tables at 11-3-07 LSAC Forum. Getting a few invitations from schools that are nowhere in my range numbers-wise, including Vanderbilt and Michigan. Weird.

*crickets* STILL no decisions. Why does it seem like everyone on the law boards has heard at least something? =`(. And I do know that compulsively checking my email/snail mail boxes doesn't speed up the process. Schools, decisions please!

Yes, I'd like some cheese with my whine.

The waiting game was painful, but I finally received my first acceptance...South Texas! Acceptance came via thin, standard white envelope with a one-page letter. What a load off my back to know that I'm really going to law school!

In at Tulane via email! A definite reach for me, but I somehow managed to climb to T1! May the happy dance commence! Expecting an acceptance package in the mail. Today's a good day.

Dinged at Berkeley. Thin, standard white envelope dated 1-10. Not surprised but the first rejection of the cycle still stings.

-No word yet from Houston. Checking your online status on the hour can't be healthy. *sigh* I'd really like some love from my top choice.
-Attending one of Tulane's Admitted Student Days in March or April. VERY excited. Will be my first visit to NOLA, and I'll get to meet with a 2L acquaintance there.
-Attending South Texas' Open House this Saturday (1-19). Not sure if it's for admitted students only, but I will email tomorrow to find out.
-Lastly, linked to a rather disturbing website today: jdunderground.com. Jaded law grads with few career prospects abooud. Very bleak and depressing. Just motivates me to separate myself from the pack and really excel as a 1L.

OMG. Admitted to Baylor Summer 2008 class with a half-tuition scholarship, renewable each year. I'm literally shaking right now. After a disappointing LSAT score, I really started to question whether I was cut out for law school. My recent acceptances have been huge validations and proof that admissions committees do indeed look beyond numbers. To anyone reading this with numbers below your expectations, don't hesistate to apply to your reaches. Put together a HELL of an application package, apply early, and show those adcomms that there's more to you than meets the eye.

Baylor package in the mail today. My acceptance letter has a handwritten note from Dean Toben: "X, we have a proven and distinctive program & I am very (underlined) hopeful that you will join us." Nice touch :) I'll be attending the 2/22 Open House.

Still nothing from Houston. Arrgh! Starting to freak out as my Baylor deposit's due on the 22nd of this month!!! C'mon, Houston!!!

After a 4 week dry spell, I received another surprise -- an American WL. I thought I'd be an auto-reject :)

3-06-08
-Withdrew from American. Couldn't picture going there over schools I've been accepted to.
-Emailed UH yesterday asking when ED applicants could expect a decision. Dean Polk responded by saying that a decision had been made on my application and that I'd "receive a letter within the next week." I'm REALLY on pins and needles now.
-Looking forward to Baylor's ASD tomorrow.

-*sigh* Waitlisted at UH, my #1. I've officially entered the unhappy realm of wait list purgatory. Time to start a LOCI of epic proportions.
-Dinged at Emory.
-Booking a hotel currently for my 3/28 Tulane ASW and 4/4 visit for good measure.

3-17-08
-Dinged at UT. Nice to have closure.
-Scheduled tours/class visits at South Texas & UH for next week.
-Will be visiting potential living quarters in NOLA during my Tulane ASW's.
-Where's Texas Tech this cycle?

3-18-08
$4500/year at South Texas =), provided I maintain a 3.25 GPA. But kind of a steep GPA to keep for a scholarship, no?
Edit: Found out that it's top 15%. Holy poo.

Tulane Accepted Students Reception in River Oaks. 2-3 Tulane Law alumni visiting with 5 admitted Houstonians. Should be fun.

-WL for Baylor's fall quarter. They said they're impressed with my credentials and that I would have been admitted had there not been an unexpectedly large applicant pool. They are also offering me Spring 2009 admission if I choose to reactivate my file and regardless of my Fall 2008 decision. Very pleasant surprise.
-In other news, currently packing for my last law school visit (Tulane) this weekend. My goal is to have a pretty good idea of where I'll be headed by Sunday. *crosses fingers*
_________________________________________________

4-02-08
-Withdrew from Baylor. It's a great school, and the staff has been wonderful to me, but it isn't for me.
-I'm pretty certain that I won't be able to afford Tulane. NOLA is a charming city, and I loved the atmosphere at the Law School, though.
_________________________________________________

4-10-08
Withdrew from Tulane and UH's WL. After number-crunching, Tulane was simply beyond my financial reach. And after visiting UH, I knew it wasn't the school for me. So it's official -- I'll be starting STCL this fall! Can't wait!

In at Texas Tech. About damn time! No mention of $. Too little, too late. Will withdraw next week. It's been fun, kids, but that completes my cycle, and overall I'm EXTREMELY pleased with it. Best of luck to Class of 2011!

Yea, I got an email letting me know they'd received it on the day I put for "complete". I assume it's complete though all they said was that they received it. Good luck!

I applied for both spring and fall quarters. I have only received a decision for the spring, which was a very nice surprise indeed. Also, I got the same thing from UT. I expect the rejection sometime in May. I perceive they have a policy of not rejecting any applicants until applications are in for regular decision.

thanks :)

best of luck to you also!! we have similar numbers, and are applying to three of the same schools, so i will cross my fingers for us!! what are your top choices?

Was the deferral viewable online, or did they mail you a letter?

Thanks

Thanks for the info. I put my app. in awhile ago and I'm just waiting for the rejection letter... any day now... haha. I'm up in the air on my first choice. Let's see who's willing to take me on board first. Good luck!

They sent me a letter. And my status checker didn't change to decision until after I already had my rejection. Hope you have better luck with them than I did...

I got a simple letter in the mail. Im not stressing it, my scores arent that special. Plus I hear Texas is all about the hometowners. I hope I get into Houston though.

First choice
Thursday, November 15 2007 at 07:00 PM

Hmmmm I dunno. My first choices would obviously be NU and Mich... but those are real long shots. I'll probably end up at either Wisconsin or Minnesota. Which would be great for me; as they are close to home. I'm rootin for you to get some acceptances soon... I feel them coming for you!

Hey
Tuesday, November 20 2007 at 07:00 PM

Yeah, its me. Congrats on your accepts so far. Lay off the Houston SC, they only update it once per week....

UH
Tuesday, November 20 2007 at 07:00 PM

I heard it from the admissions office. I asked, they said it was once per week that it was updated. However, I would assume that just because it isn't updated doesn't mean action hasn't been taken on your profile or a decision made. The things aren't foolproof and I would imagine routinely decisions are made and sent without any status changing. I was just saying checking it hourly isn't necessary because they bulk upload updates (assuming that's how it's done). If you disagree though, feel free to check it often, I just know that it's not necessary. Oh, and best of luck with UH, Baylor (my UG) and UT.

Location
Tuesday, November 20 2007 at 07:00 PM

Location isn't an issue for me. I have my top 10 ranked. I won't get into UT, but until they say 'NO', it's my #1. I adjust them as a 'Yes', 'No', or 'Maybe' come back. For now, I am going to Creighton, but I have a lot outstanding...so we'll see.

Re: UH
Wednesday, November 28 2007 at 07:00 PM

They sent me a letter in a thin white envelope.

Congrats so far!
Monday, July 23 2007 at 08:00 PM

I was wondering if Baylor had you fill out anything for scholarships before you were admitted? I just went complete and was wondering if I needed to do anything more to try to get a scholarship...Thanks!

top choice
Monday, November 05 2007 at 07:00 PM

my top choice is Hastings and then UW, but Iowa is up there too!

Thanks!
Monday, July 23 2007 at 08:00 PM

Thanks for the scholarship info. Congrats on the $$ from Baylor as well! I'd consider all the schools I applied to "serious contenders"--until they reject me, of course :)

UH Acceptance
Friday, January 20 2006 at 07:00 PM

Hi, I'm sorry, I didn't see your 12/20 comment until today. I didn't actually get accepted to UH this go-round; the stuff was left up there from when I applied during the 05-06 cycle. I'm so sorry for the confusion. RRRR

tulane
Sunday, November 25 2007 at 07:00 PM

congrats on tulane to you too! i would love to go to tulane but the parents will only pay for what would be comparable to in-state public tution so i'd end up having to take about 15,00 a year out in loans....not fun.... oh and good luck on UH! :)

Congrats
Tuesday, October 02 2007 at 08:00 PM

Wow! Awesome scholly to Baylor. I have to admit if I recvd something similar Baylor would go way up on my list, :) Again Congrats!!

UH

Haven't gone to decision yet, but the status checker says "File in review" so I'm hoping it'll come soon! Good luck with your app!

UH
Saturday, October 20 2007 at 08:00 PM

No decision yet, I'm still at "File in Review." I would bet that most ED applicants will go to decision this week though. I guess we will see tomorrow when they (hopefully) update the status checker.

U of H, etc
Wednesday, October 31 2007 at 08:00 PM

No answer yet from U of H. I don't think they abbreviate ED correctly (and I am currently entertaining speculations on what they might have confused it for). May I just add that you have two WAY more attractive acceptances? Baylor with a 1/2 scholarship has got to be hard to refuse, and Tulane is really really really awesome for someone with LSAT scores like you and me. (BTW if you've never been to New Orleans, it's a really cool place -- even aside from the Mardi Gras hoopla). Email me if you want.

UH
Thursday, January 31 2008 at 07:00 PM

Unfortunately, I still have not heard anything from them. If they're planning to mail out all ED decisions by the end of Feb, they got some serious work to do. The only thing that's keeping me from going crazy is knowing that @ least they're not saving all the rejection letters till the end. GL!

TITLE REQUIRED
Wednesday, October 31 2007 at 08:00 PM

No plans on practicing in Houston -- San Antonio is home... But I have a detailed cost-benefit analysis, and UofH is real high with the in-state tuition being so low. St. Mary's/STCL/TXWes are all private, so in-state does no good. STCL has a good reputation, and their part-time program rocks. I've met personally with all the schools in Texas, and those are my (reasonable) top 4, with UofH being the longshot.

Houston
Saturday, October 20 2007 at 08:00 PM

What do you think the odds are that we get decisions from Houston this week?

Baylor vs. UH
Tuesday, September 04 2007 at 08:00 PM

Have you had to send Baylor your seat deposits yet for summer? What are you going to do when Baylor's deadline comes if you haven't heard from UH yet? As of yesterday UH had not finished reviewing all the ED applications yet. I applied regular decision and am really worried that I'll have to start making choices w/o knowing if I'm in at UH or not.

Houston
Thursday, March 01 2007 at 07:00 PM

No, I haven't received a decision from Houston; I asked when they give out early admission answers, and they said between Jan. and March. Regular Admission is decided in May.

Houston
Saturday, October 20 2007 at 08:00 PM

Decisions
Saturday, October 20 2007 at 08:00 PM

I'm still considering Missouri as well, but Tulane is at the top of my list with USD and Missouri being tied for second. Looking at UH's total cost of attendance makes me really wish I wanted to live in Houston, but it just isn't for me. I'm just making sure that I don't get any unexpected money from Houston and will probably withdraw early next week. Good luck.
