Extra Curricular Information

All I really want is for PinkTiki to write on my wall...

I'm pretty surprised by this entire process. I thought that by getting my apps in early I would have a great shot...it looks like that was a false belief.

Additional info & updates

Merit Based Fee Waivers from UMichigan, Vanderbilt, UCLA, Washington and Lee, Temple, Cardozo...the list goes on.

Decision Dates are postmark dates on snail mail letters.
---
11/26/07: Acceptance letter from WUSTL with a small hand-written note on it.

12/6/07: Acceptance letter from Vanderbilt. Included in the small envelope was a page about sending in a deposit and another page about scholarships.

12/11/07: Big package from Vanderbilt including the "Obeiter Dictum" guide to Vandy, Nashville, and Law School. Fun!

12/13/07: Went to "Decision" on GULC's status check after having called the other day to check on my status. Was that a bad idea? The wait continues...

12/17/07: Called Cornell after going to "Decision" on the Status Checker. Was told that I'm on "Reserve" and that my file will be reviewed again in February or March. Received snail mail letter regarding the deferral today too.

12/20/07: Just got a letter in the mail putting me on reserve at Georgetown. A decision will be rendered before February 15.

12/21/07: E-mail today from Dean Post at Penn deferring me to the regular pool. I applied Early Decision. Boo.

1/10/08: Received an e-mail today from Zearfoss at UMichigan telling me that my application was still under review and they have been "impressed" by my file so far. Hopefully an extra recommendation will put me over the edge.

1/16/08: Received a snail mail letter from UCLA placing me on the waitlist. I'm not a California resident, so I guess I'm not that surprised, but I am disappointed.

1/24:08: E-mail notified me that I was granted $25,000/year at WashU as a Scholar in Law.

1/25/08: Rejected at Harvard in an e-mail. Big surprise.

1/26/08: Rejected from UChicago via snail mail. Was hoping for a waitlist.

2/12/08: Status Checker went to decision at GULC.

2/16/08: Snail mail letter to my perm. address rejecting me at GULC. Wow.

2/25/08: WOOT! A package from USC arrived to my home address...GO TROJANS! FIGHT ON! I'm so excited for the possibility of a cross country move...

2/26/08: Letter from Vanderbilt offering me Dean's Scholarship of $15k a year. Will not be going to Vanderbilt.

2/28/08: Waitlisted at UMich. Will not be staying on.

3/04/08: I think this was the day that my status checker went to Decision. A letter was sent to my permanent address and arrived sometime around the 13th of March. Surprised that I was outright rejected...

3/29/08: No news. Still waiting on answers from Penn and Cornell after being deferred...not holding out much hope. I've updated my choice #'s to reflect the changes in my cycle.

4/1/08: I put down a deposit at WashU just to hold my seat and scholarship...but I'm very strongly leaning towards USC. I'll be visiting for the ASD in mid-April so after that I will have a clearer picture...but I really don't see myself turning down USC/L.A. for WashU/St. Louis. In other news, I am still waiting for Cornell and Penn to make their decisions. Not much hope, I know, but...a guy can dream, right?

4/07/08: Dreams are crushed. Letter from UPenn to my home address rejecting me. It was a pretty nice rejection letter...but c'mon Penn, not even a waitlist after I applied Early Decision? :(

4/15/08: Cornell, where you at?

4/16/08: There you are! I am on "Reserve" at Cornell...which is different than waitlist... it is kind of like a priority waitlist?

7/3/08: Called Cornell today to check up on my "Reserve" status. I have been put on an official waitlist...and will not be staying on.

FIGHT ON, TROJANS!

I believe that they send you a confirmation e-mail after you register (it may have gone to your junk folder) you just click a link in there and I think it makes you verified

I see you already got your question answered, but good luck on your cycle. You have great numbers, so I'm sure you'll do just fine.

Saturday, September 08 2007 at 08:00 PM

Thanks for the note. Good luck to you as well. I'm nervous because my numbers are hanging out around the 25 percentile of some of my top choice schools. But I have great work experience and (what I feel) is a great PS. Let's keep out fingers crossed! Are you applying anywhere other than Penn?

Hi
Friday, October 19 2007 at 08:00 PM

We have similar numbers and I just wanted to say hi and good luck this cycle.

thanks for the note!

Thanks! I live very close to D.C., so I got it the day after it was postmarked. Are you applying there as well? Hopefully we'll hear from Penn soon...the wait is killing me!

So far ... nothing. I'm thinking so, yeah :/

Penn ED?
Friday, February 09 2007 at 07:00 PM

You're ED @ Penn too? I'm nearly certain that we didn't get in outright. Agreed? Still frustrating not to hear something along with the rest of the gang. :(

Deferrals
Monday, July 16 2007 at 08:00 PM

Hi there "poochkers," I just wanted to let you know I feel your pain with the Penn & Cornell deferrals. Hang in there. Even though we were deferred, I'm sure that we'll both wind up at great law schools in the end. Congrats on your admission to Vanderbilt LS and good luck to you the rest of this cycle! Happy holidays, aniedrich84

sorry it took so long for me to respond, i basically never come on lsn anymore...anyway, i went to one of the top three liberal arts colleges (sorry, i'd rather not say which one)...i was also surprised to be WLed by USC, i stayed on the WL all summer and wrote letters, but didn't get off it. good luck with your cycle!

G'town
Sunday, November 25 2007 at 07:00 PM

I was just regular decision. Had an interview, which was just kind of so-so (it felt more like I was the one doing the interview), then got deferred in mid December. Good luck!

Penn
Friday, February 09 2007 at 07:00 PM

I didn't. In fact, I fared worse. I'm confused by this whole process.

Penn
Friday, February 09 2007 at 07:00 PM

No, I haven't. I guess I thought that'd be weird. I doubt they'd really tell me anything. You think I should??

Gtown > Cornell?!
Friday, February 09 2007 at 07:00 PM

Why? (Just curious)

Penn
Monday, July 16 2007 at 08:00 PM

Hi poochkers, Thanks for the "sorry about penn" message; but I am totally okay with whatever happens. I've decided that whatever God has planned for me is fine with me, and if that plan includes Penn, it does and if it doesn't, it doesn't. I will just grateful for the opportunity to learn the law and help people someday, no matter where I end up. I am sure you will do well, too. You've gotten into some great schools, already too! Thank you and best wishes to you this cycle. -aniedrich84

Hey bud. It's been a while. So where you think you'll be next year?

Congrats
Friday, September 28 2007 at 08:00 PM

Congrats on your acceptances. Are you leaning towards a school?

re: wow
Friday, September 28 2007 at 08:00 PM

I wish I could have given you my scholly from USC :( USC just wasn't for me. LA was so expensive and the USC campus was shady. I just placed my deposit at WUSTL, so I am going to be in STL for 4 more years. Let me knoe if you have any questions about WashU. Good luck with the rest of your cycle!

Confusion. Heh.
Friday, February 09 2007 at 07:00 PM

First of all, ... hi, again! :) I'm confused/curious ... 1. If Cornell really is your fourth choice, ... why do you care to hear from them still? You're already in at USC and Wustl with $! 2. You say, "a girl can dream, right" ... but you self-identify as male. ... confusing! :P

answers
Friday, February 09 2007 at 07:00 PM

Oh. Whoa, dude, sorry. I totally overlooked that. Yeah, I mean I'm really, really torn between Cornell and WUSTL. I keep going back and forth between the two. I'd say Cornell is slightly more likely right now, ... but nothing is decided by any means. I'm going crazy deciding!!

Penn
Friday, February 09 2007 at 07:00 PM

I just noticed your Penn update. Sorry about that. Trust me when I say that I know how you feel. :P

waitlist
Friday, February 09 2007 at 07:00 PM

I\'m not sure what to account for the difference in our cycles. Had you written a \"Why Cornell\"? You had indicated earlier that Cornell wasn\'t a top choice for you, ... maybe that showed in your application or something? I\'ve always really, really liked Cornell so I tried hard to portray that. Then again, I also applied ED to Penn (and wrote a \"Why Penn\"), but I, unlike you, was outright rejected. Admissions committees continue to awe me to an extent (weird as that is). Have a blast in California, dude. At least you\'ll have puhlenty of sunshine! :D

GPA
Friday, February 09 2007 at 07:00 PM

Actually, I just noticed the Cornell graphs. Maybe your GPA is what did it? On the graphs it looks like you fall into a pocket of Waitlists.
