Additional info & updates

***All Scholarship Info represents 3 year totals***

11/30/10---Got my first acceptance today. MSU with 75% scholarship via phone call. They have a huge alumni base so I feel blessed to at least have them as a solid backup if anything.

12/2/10---Received a WL notification from Washington & Lee. Really do like the school so it would have been great to get accepted. Kicking myself in the butt for not writing a WHY W&L essay. Quite turnaround so I def. appreciate that about the school!

Received an email from Howard saying I need to turn in the verification form. It's been a MONTH since I submitted the application and that form. Frustrating to know they didn't get it for some reason!

12/3/10---Woke up for work at 6am and I see I received an email from Miami at 4 am saying that have made a "very important decision regarding my application". I got the acceptance! Feels good to be on a decent streak, didn't think I'd be hearing back from ANY schools so soon. Blessed!

12/9/10---Received an email from Cornell. I was deferred. Neither Admitted or Denied. They basically want to hold off until Regular Decision cycle to make a decision on my app.

Also received scholarship info from MSU. Not only do I have a 75% tuition scholarship, but they are also offering 8k for the first year via another scholarship. Only stipulation for 75% is that i maintain a 2.5 GPA. If I achieve a 3.8 then it increases to a full-ride. The $$$ aspect and thought of 0 debt is waying heavily on me though.

12/16/10 ---Email from Penn State saying I have been accepted. Scholarship info to be sent in January. Hope this is a good sign of things to come!

Also had to re-send residency info to UNC. Hope that doesn't push me back in rendering a decision.

12/17/10-- Accepted into Illinois Champaign!!!!!!!!! Extremely excited and surprised quite frankly. At that, recieved a 20k a year scholarship garunteed without ANY stipulations. Seems like I'll be taking my talents to IL as of now. Blessed.

12/19/10--Got back home from fraternity brother's wedding to receive a WL letter from George Mason. Absolutely will NOT be adding my name to the list thanks to IL.

12/22/10--***EDIT*** UM ended up emailing me scholarship info. 20k a yr via the Dean's Honor Scholarship.

12/26/10--Just found out you can do ED for Duke and UVA even in January. Though I don't have much chance at either, I'll probably shoot an app their way for the heck of it. Happy Holidays all!

12/17/10--***EDIT*** Received email over Christmas break from GW saying I was being placed in RD. Hah had to try for that full tuition. Though I'm sure an ED at another school would have been useful, I am reluctant to be strapped down to one selection without the possibility of taking any other avenues.

1/07/10--Got home from a work convention to find a rejection letter from BU. Also received a package from UIUC with a CLASS OF 2014 usb in an all blue package. Very nice. They really do a lot for the potential students. I love the school but geographically it would be HORRIBLE for my relationship. We shall see.

1/10/10--UChicago rejection email. Extreme reach.

1/13/10 Accepted into six week CLEO summer institute.

1/16/10 Accepted in Bama via phone call on Sunday night. Surprising to see them working on the weekend.

1/18/10--A lot happened today. Got into Tulane w/scholarship. Award amount comes via snail mail in the future. Got into Wake Forest!!! Woop Woo! Crazy because that use to be my #2 choice. Also received scholarship info from Penn State, $60,000. Been a great day!

1/20/10--WOW. 15k a yr scholly at Alabama. That translates into 30k in tuition left for me to pay over 3 years--cheap! Though ALL my family lives in Alabama, I still find the state to be trailing in social progress. Great school, made me think about it for a second, but ultimately I won't be attending.

Also dinged from BC. Pissed I wasted $100.

1/21/10--Accepted to Howard. 17,500 for FIRST YEAR. weird. No further $$ rest of tenure is given.

2/26/11---Sent LOCI to Notre Dame and Vanderbilt. Didn't expect to have much shot at Vandy but I really do love the school. We shall see...

3/04/11--Withdrew from a couple of schools. Trying to keep my selection pool to 2-3 schools. Wish everyone would just give me an answer to speed this up!

3/11/11--Today is the day I realized, that I have NO idea where I am going lol. Looked at my options and simply paused w/a breathe of indecision. I prefer the south, but cities like Chicago and Indianapolis are great places. Went in wanting to eventually relocate to Charlotte/Raleigh, Atlanta, or Nashville. Now...my mindset has changed.

3/21/11-- Successfully negotiated a scholarship increase for 15k additional funds at UIUC. Major sway in the wake of the IUB offer. b

4/04/11- Looks like I'm becoming the waitlist champ. Realistically, I'm probably only semi-interested in staying on for Vandy, Cornell, and Notre Dame.

4/26/11- Well after waiting beyond a reasonable amount of time, finally got the WL decision from UNC. I will officially be attending Illinois. Wanted to stay in the south, but I am actually MORE than happy to be attending UIUC. I was incredibly impressed with the school, faculty, and students when I visited. I'm all for God's plan versus mine. I have elected to stay on the WL on a couple schools, but I'm pretty set on UIUC. Thanks for tuning in everyone. Hope my profile helps others out in the future.

Thank you for the congrats! I see you got into some great schools yourself! I am not retaking the Dec LSAT only because I got into my number 1 school. I am so blessed. Good luck! :)

Congrats on MSU with scholarship! What is your top choice?

To be honest, UNC-C and Wake Forest are my top choices. Though I obviously would love to get accepted into some higher ranked schools, I feel that my outcomes are so unpredictable. The fact that MSU offered me a considerable amount of money is waying heavily on me though. The idea of low debt is intriguing!

Sunday, January 31 2010 at 07:00 PM

I know! I got the admit package yesterday with 50% scholarship and a chance for full tuition, it's not my top choice but I might end up there lol good luck on the rest of your applications!

Yes I applied ED to Case, I'm locked into going there but I don't think they can physically force me to go so right now I'm not going to rule any of the schools out, I got my W&L acceptance before Case and I never thought I would have a chance at getting in so it was a surprise (already got a lot of hate mail) and Case is one of my top choices that is why I ED there, Idk if it would be a shame to have to go to Case of W&L though

Hi! Congrats on your acceptances :-) Honestly, I love UNC - I graduated from there & love the school. I got WL there last year so I don't know what my chances are this year. If I get in I will go into panic mode because choosing will be really hard! Best of luck with the rest of your cycle & congrats again!

Interesting you should mention Howard! I did apply last cycle and got denied pretty quick. I decided it wasn't worth it this time around. I don't seem to have much luck with schools on the east coast. Congrats on Penn State!!

Sunday, November 21 2010 at 07:00 PM

Damm it you took my MSU scholarship money lol. Congrats on your cycle!!!

Sunday, November 21 2010 at 07:00 PM

Why are you not going to MSU? It is looking like minorities don't want to go. Is there something i am missing?

Thanks, and congrats
Thursday, November 04 2010 at 08:00 PM

Good luck to you too! Both got that lovely BU letter this weekend, but both also got into UIUC! Congrats so far and good luck with the rest! I'll be rooting for you!

Hey Congrats!!
Wednesday, December 01 2010 at 07:00 PM

Congrats to you throughout your cycle. I received a full scholarship to Michigan State and though it is very tempting I have no idea where I will be going this fall. I've heard great things about Illinois and am considering applying. Thanks for your comment.

congrats on your acceptance! i got accepted to howard too and i dont know if you care or not, i went on a tour and the scholly isnt just for your first year, its all 3 years if you stay in the top 25% or something, the admissions lady said more info on it will come after your acceptance letter....

Thanks!
Thursday, November 04 2010 at 08:00 PM

Thanks a lot. I think I have a lot of good options right now. UIUC, BC, William and Mary, Fordham and Washington and Lee are probably at the top of the list. Scholarships will matter, and I am waiting to see what happens with some of the super reaches. As of now, if nothing else happened, I'm thrilled with my cycle! Good luck to you.

Saturday, December 04 2010 at 07:00 PM

yea top 25% is kinda hard but you dont lose it completely if you dont make that so thats better i think

Thank you :)
Saturday, October 30 2010 at 08:00 PM

Aww thanks for the kind words...congrats on ALL of your acceptances! Why did the same thing happen to me with my verification form for HOWARD...damn HBCUs lol...but after reviewing all the benefits, its creeping up to one of my top choices....which one are you considerring so far? Btw, which CLEO program are you going to? San Diego?

Saturday, October 30 2010 at 08:00 PM

UNC--> great school...I considerred applying there myself...but I REALLY want to be in the DC area, I think I still will just to see what they say...hmmmm...you should def request San Diego! I'm from there...gonna be there this summer myself...not for CLEO (since I didn't apply) ...maybe I should apply to that too lol

Thanks
Sunday, October 03 2010 at 08:00 PM

Yea, I'm waiting to hear from UNC, but I'm pretty sure I'll end up at UGA. Congrats on your accomplishments so far and good luck in the future. P.S. - What fraternity are you in?

Nah
Sunday, October 03 2010 at 08:00 PM

Que Psi Phi here. My roommate is an Alpha, so much love. Not tired of NC per say. My fiance lives in GA so one of us was going to have to move at some point. So we'll see, but as it stands right now I'm going to UGA.

Congrats!

Congrats on Wake! they're in my top as well...

Congratulations!

It's very exciting to see that someone with similar scores has gotten so many acceptances; it gives me hope for myself (even though I lack your extra credentials). Congratulations to you! I wish you the best!

I am in a similar position
Wednesday, December 15 2010 at 07:00 PM

Congrats on your acceptances! I am in a similar situation as you with your relationship. I would love to go to Iowa, where I'm being offered a full ride but it would not work at all with my relationship! Then there's BU which isn't offering a full ride, but would work better for us. Decisions decisions. The thought of graduating with no debt really starts to weigh in to your decision-making. still waiting on Cornell!!!! maybe something drastic will happen to put things more in perspective!!

Thanks Back!

Thank you for your comment. To answer your question, I'm not an URM; I'm a white female. Have you made a decision on where you're going to go yet or is your top school still pending?

No, I did not check Tulane's status checker. I pretty much check TLS.COM to see if there is any buzz on acceptances. Grew tired of being a status check nut :?
