An ode to UNC:

I wanted to mail in my seat deposit to UT the NEXT DAY but my business sense got me to wait till for UNC, the last straggler. After waiting two weeks I hadn't heard anything and I just felt it was unreasonable for UNC not to tell me. So I mailed in my seat deposit fee to Tennessee.

After another two weeks I actually called UNC to see what the deal was. This was two days before the UNC Seat Deposit due date and still no answer. No answer was forthcoming for me either. Not accepted, rejected or waitlisted.

Just nothingness.

The Admissions director was also quite dickish in her delivery of the news of my continued nothingness.

Finally, on May 6th I received a letter from UNC telling me that because of "keen competition" (I swear to god) I could not attend their law school.

They charged me the highest application fee of any school and the best they could come up with on May 1st, preposterously late, is Keen? After Tennessee admitted me I had made my choice. Good thing, because the loserdom of UNC is especially Keen.

All I can say:

It's GREAT To Be A Tennessee Volunteer

Additional info & updates

My Top Choice Brings Redemption in 2008

3/13/08: A phone call from the lovely admissions staff of the University of Tennessee. I'm in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

3-18-08: I just got my rejection letter from UT last year and my acceptance letter from UT this year framed.

3-24-08: Financial news came in from Tennessee. I won't need to eat Alpo to survive law school. Even my dad is impressed with this place.

3-25-08: I have withdrawn my applications to Penn State and Arkansas. Hopefully this bodes well for those of you on the waitlist.

3-31-08: Mailed in my Seat Deposit for Tennessee.

5-1-08: Visited the campus and met with Janet Hatcher. Love the place and the people. All are top notch. Also gave in my second seat deposit fee.

5-23: Went to Admitted Students Day. Place and People are still awesome.

6-12: Have a great apartment and two roommates who seem cool. It's good to be me.

I've waited for years, patiently, to say this:

It's GREAT To Be A Tennessee Volunteer

It is tough going through it twice, but if you have put in the work it will be well worth it. I'm sure it will all work out for you.

Thanks for the kind words. Good luck on getting that LSAT score up--I hated the wait. Have you thought about applying to UGA if your LSAT ends up where you want it? They're ranked equal with UNC, and Athens is a great city.

Congratulations!

Congrats on Penn State & Arkansas! And as far as fee waivers, i'm sure you can expect at least a few as long as your settings allow for contact on LSAC. Either way it sounds like your cycle's off to a nice start.

thanks

Hopefully I won't have to take you up on that offer! :) Congrats on Arkansas and good luck on all the other schools!

Thanks!

I appreciate the congrats. I have been very lucky this cycle already, doing much better this cycle than last one. You and I are in a similar boat. I see you're having trouble with your number one choice(s). Don't fret it until you get all of your decisions back. You aren't the first person to feel this way. I know just how you feel. !

I haven't decided about UNC. I'm not sick of it, but with the scholarship at W&M, it makes it about the same cost as UNC. I've had a couple courses at UNC's law school (electives, not typical 1L classes) and wasn't overcome by the facilities. I'm still considering it though, but think I may have better opportunities elsewhere. I also heard UNC wasn't making another round of decisions til January, so I figure I have time. What do you think? Should I be tired of it? Haha!

Glad to hear you liked the visit. Drop me an e-mail and let me know any questions you have (how I like the school, career prospects, classes, etc..) and I'll be happy to hit you up.

thanks!

I'm sure you'll be hearing from TN soon. :)

No sweat
Monday, September 17 2007 at 08:00 PM

No sweat on that! I left my T1 schools in the mix b/c scholarship offers may sway my decision. I just took myself out of ones that I am sure that I wouldn't attend now. I hope this helps you with Tennessee! Penn State and Arkansas are great ones so you are already sitting pretty! I wish you the best with the rest of your cycle and keep me posted! Maybe I'll see you as a 1L next year - who knows?!

Congrats

I think so. Dragging my feet with the deposit out of sure laziness. When did you get FiAid info... I've heard nothing and am wondering if they got my FAFSA.

Thanks!
