Extra Curricular Information

I've revealed some numbers...finally :) Now I'm going to prepare myself for the barrage of negative comments...

For those with low scores or a mediocre GPA like mine, there is hope. This law school process is really unpredictable and nothing is certain. Apply wherever you want to, you never know what might happen.

*My profile is NOT false or a "flame" or whatever the heck they call it. I have no reason to lie. I decided to share such personal information because I don't want other applicants in my position to get caught up in numbers and lose hope of going to law school.

*If you don't have anything POSITIVE to say, DON'T say anything at all, go pollute someone else's page with your nasty comments.

Additional info & updates

*All of my fee waivers were LSAC fee waivers...and that's why I decided it was worth the time and money to apply to lots of reaches.

*Scholarship money is per year.

12/10/07-- ACCEPTED TO WILLIAM AND MARY!!!!!!!!!!! My first acceptance!!! God is great! I was VERY, VERY surprised at the acceptance AND how fast they responded (two weeks!).

12/11/07 -- Deferred at Bama...notified by email.

1/03/08 -- I came back from holiday break and was greeted by not one, but THREE rejection letters from Vandy, Georgetown, and Mercer. The acceptance from W&M definitely softened the blow.

1/18/08 -- Rejected from UVA.

1/31/08 -- Rejected from Howard. Somewhat surprised by that...

2/01/08 -- Second acceptance, Mississippi College! However, it's a conditional acceptance...I would have to successfully complete their summer academic program.

2/4/08 -- Rejected from Columbia...ouch. Oh well, NYC living is too expensive anyway lol. Oh, and it came in regular, thin envelope.

2/7/08 -- Third acceptance, North Carolina Central! It came in a regular sized envelope.

2/7/08 -- Decided not to put myself on Samford's waitlist. They wanted a response by Feb 21 and frankly, there are some choices I have that are a bit better.

2/8/08 -- Accepted to UT-Knoxville!!!! Yay! The envelope was amazingly thin, so thin doesn't always mean bad news lol.

2/13/08 -- Scholarship offer from UT-Knox, $6,000 per year. I thought my decision would be easy, but money complicates things...

2/15/08 -- Ok, I know Harvard was a real STRETCH, but I think everyone should give it a try.

3/5 -- Rejected from GA State, status checker said "Admission not approved". Kinda bummed about that, I was really looking forward to in-state tuition and being close to home :(.

3/8 -- Back from Spring Break and greeted by a big envelope from Southern...

3/12 -- Bama status checker changed to decision today and then I realized that I hadn't updated my phone number with them. I called and the lady told me the decision over the phone.

3/21 -- Waitlisted at UGA. Darn it. It's my last shot at in-state tuition. I don't know what I'm going to do...this definitely complicates the decision making.

**My decision MUST be made by April 15, and as of now the decision is between UT-Knox and W&M (if UGA doesn't pull me off the waitlist before then). Sooo, any positive opinions are greatly welcome -- what would you do in my situation? Here are a few tidbits about me to help you form your response :)...

-I want to practice in the South (most likely Atlanta).
-I'm from GA, so UT-Knox is much closer than W&M.
-Both are great schools, but W&M is #30 and UT-Knox is #52...according to USnews rankings. How much emphasis should be placed on that?
-UT-Knox offered me $6,000/year, W&M has offered no scholarship money.

**04-07-08 -- UT-Knoxville wins. :)

Hey, i hear ya. I hope it turns out well for you. Have you heard back from any schools yet?

UGA and LSDAS reports
Saturday, October 27 2007 at 08:00 PM

I also applied to UGA and they haven't requested my report either. I heard that they only request them on the 1st and 15th of every month, so its strange they haven't requested yours by now (and mine too). Are you thinking about calling them?

My acceptance letter was the first correspndence I got (small envelope, BTW). I based the "complete" date for my NCCU app on the date my LSDAS file was requested by NCCU.

Good Luck

on all the acceptances! what's your first choice? The offer from UT (although smaller in number than others, it's most the of in-state tuition) is turning my head...as well as Wash U's....

Monday, January 07 2008 at 07:00 PM

Hey! Congrats on all of your acceptances, especially U Tenn and William and Mary!!! Those are great schools!! Do you know which one you would like to go to yet?

Some Friendly Questions
Friday, January 18 2008 at 07:00 PM

Congrats on W&M!!! I had a couple of questions for you if you dont mind? Did you write an anything to the admissions board about your LSAT score? Do you have amazing soft factors? And what do you think helped you get in despite your LSAT score? Again congrats!!!

congrats
Sunday, May 20 2007 at 08:00 PM

Congrats on all your acceptances! You got into some really great schools. Have you picked where your headed yet?

Congrats
Sunday, February 10 2008 at 07:00 PM

Hey, you got into some schools. That's all that matters. Now you can work and show them how well you can do. The GPA isn't bad, and not everyone does well on standardized testing. I know a few philosophy PhD students who are very bright but don't test well. So, yeah, good luck.

Southern Uni.

Hey Again!
Monday, January 07 2008 at 07:00 PM

Congrats on Southern and thank you so much for your kind words! Honestly, I'm not sure if I can be of much help because I'm in the same situation. Have you visited UTenn and W&M? If not, that may help. Also, have you asked W&M if they could give you some $$$. Let them know that money is an important factor in your decision to come there (I'm doing that with some schools). I hope this is somewhat helpful. If you have any suggestions for me, please let me know. Take care!

Pardon me, Panero

I re-read your recent post, and it doesn't sound as hostile as I originally thought. Excuse me if I sound extra defensive, I just rather people not waste space on my page being negative. I know there are frauds and fakes out there, but I am not one of them. So let's all be positive and supportive, ok?

hey!

HEY! IT IS YOU! lol sat by you today! :) (BJ) lol

Sorry for the misinterpetation
Friday, January 18 2008 at 07:00 PM

I am sorry that you thought I was coming at you with a hostile attitude. Indeed, my goal was to express the exact opposite sentiment and convey to you that in light of your tremendous success you shouldn't waste your time responding to arrogant and ignorant people such as emmaforrester who obviously lack tack and are in no way being conducive to others on this website. I never conveyed doubt or jealously about your success and am actually quite proud of your success because it shows that no one factor can determine someone's ability to succeed or be admitted to a good school. Thanks for being genuine and answering my questions and again best of luck!!!! Also as you can see most of the posts on your page express overwhelming support and praise for your success and I am simply doing the same.

Hi my friend

As of now, where are you thinking of going pbe011?

Decision..
Tuesday, January 15 2008 at 07:00 PM

What about College Of William and Mary? You have a tough decision here. A few of my apps are currently being reviewed. Therefore, I am going to wait a little longer before making a final decision. Right now, I am leaning toward Saint Louis University.

Have you made a decision yet?

TITLE REQUIRED

Indeed, both schools are tier one schools according to the USNWR rankings. However, they use such factors as alumni contribution, retention, and yield percentages to calculate these ranking. That is why older schools are usually always ranked higher (i.e. Harvard, Yale, Stanford, UVa, etc.). In terms, of where you want to practice I would say WM has a better reputation in the South, but depending on what type of law you would want to practice potential loan debt from going to WM with no scholarship money is something you may want to consider. For instance, if you want to do public interest law you probably want to go to the school that offers you the most money so you aren't burdened with debt when you graduate. In this regard, Tennesee seems like the better choice. I would suggest to you that you consider how well you think you can do at both schools by looking how they grade, faculty ratings from rating websites, and the actual webpages as well as the LSAC profiles when you think about where you want to head. Because these schools aren't t-14's you will have to finish near the top of your class if you want to get a really good corporate job at one of the top law firms. My opinion would be to go where the money is guaranteed. Good Luck!

Hey!
Monday, January 07 2008 at 07:00 PM

Have you looked at how well each school places its graduates in Atlanta? If one is higher than the other, you may want to consider going to that school.

Hey again!
Monday, January 07 2008 at 07:00 PM

Everything's going well. I think that I've decided on Cornell (like 90% sure). I really loved the school and I think that I will be able to get a great job when I go back to Texas. Let me know when you've reached a decision and keep in touch!

See you at UT
Monday, May 28 2007 at 08:00 PM

Looking foward to meeting you!

on your acceptances and the decision to go to ut (a little late, but i would have advised that you seek out w&m and tried to establish residency during 2L). we're in very similar situations (except your gpa is better than mine and my lsat is quite a bit higher). best of luck with everything. are you going to reveal your soft factors?!

Hey!
Monday, December 24 2007 at 07:00 PM

Its been awhile since I wrote, but I see you chose UT, thats great, and it's so nice to see someone with my LSAT score exceed the odds and go to a Tier 1. I would have loved that opportunity! I wish you the best at UT.

re: fake post
Friday, February 01 2008 at 07:00 PM

Ya, sorry about that. I tried to delete it and have no idea who wrote it. Best of luck at UT, its a great school.

I just wanted to commend you on your perseverance and commitment to law school. I have the same lsat score as you do and for the past two years i have been at this law school process. I am the first to admit that i limited myself bc of the numbers game law school put out there. But no reading your profile and your testimony just really gave me a whole new outlook on this process. I limited my myself bc i didnt think my numbers were good enough but obvisiously I am very wrong. Again congrats on your acceptance to great law schools. I am waitlisted at two schools but I feel that I should wait simply because I really want a GREAT LEGAL education and I dont want to just get by at a school thats not really doing well. Im also from GA living in Atlanta right now working a major law firm but wouldnt mind getting out of the south for a while. You are a very strong black woman and thats why I LOVE YOU ALL!!! Bc a black man gets no better support from his own sister.. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU...for your inspiration. p.s. i can forward you some information on summer associate program for the firm Im working for if you are interested.

Congrats to your acceptance to William and Mary. I to have a low LSAT (145) and a pretty decent GPA (3.15) and I'm reluctant to try to apply to the top tiered schools. Unlike you, I don't qualify for the fee waver, which is a real bummer. I actually have to fork out cash to apply to schools. I'm just going to apply to the lower T1 schools and the T4 schools around my area (San Diego). Hopefully something turns up from that.
