Typical of many: was scoring 5-7 pts. higher on prep tests. Took Kaplan course. So-so. Would not say it totally sucks but also would not say it was superb either. I think one problem (at least from my experience) is that they hire people who know their stuff but don't have any real experience teaching it to others (being a teacher myself, I guess I notice these things). Best of luck to all in this stressful application process.

12/26: Accepted to Nova's AAMPLE

1/09: Waiting, Waiting. I don't understand why people with lower and higher numbers who applied after me are hearing yays or nays. I perfectly understand the low LSAT, but send the rejection already! HRUMPH!!

PLEASE HELP!!!! I got this e-mail from FCLS saying "Hello and congrats on your acceptance--when would you like to schedule a tour?" Is this BS? I haven't got any mail confirmation, so I'm thinking it's a mistake. If anyone else has gotten this and it really is an acceptance, let me know. Thanks

1/29--It's official, I AM accepted at FCSL. I am truly humbled to have been given this honor, especially since they were obviously willing to look past my awful LSAT score. If I can get in, you certainly can too. Focus on your personal statement, get good letters of recommendation, and keep the lines of communication open (without being pesky) with admissions folk. Rejected at Barry. Not broken up--I have heard good things about it, but it is only provisionally accredited and their bar passage is lower than FCSL

1/30--OOPS. No offense. Barry is FULLY ACCREDITED by the ABA

2/09: Back from Coastal tour. It seems like a really good, solid school in a nice part of Jacksonville. I plan on attending, (so take my comments with a grain of salt) but I was blown away by what they have to offer in terms of academic success programs, clinics, and career opps. Although there are other criteria besides bar passage rates to raise a school's tier, I don't think Coastal is going to be a 4th tier law school for long, considering their bar passage is higher than older established schools like St. Thomas and Nova (77.6% in Feb 06--above the state average of 73-74%)

Withdrew from St. Thomas 3/08. Said they needed another letter of recom--told them I was going to 'Coastal.

3/08--An ACCEPT to Florida A & M. Sending my withdrawal, however, as I am Jax- bound

You should really think about FAMU. This experience is the first of many more just like this one to come with that school. Good Luck!

I can relate. Any advice? Do you plan to apply to more than just 2 schools?

That's unbelievable. I'm sorry to hear that.

Florida

Are you only going to apply to schools in Florida? If you are interested in Public Interest Law then the University of The District of Columbia would be a good place for you to apply. The tuition is really affordable and they have really interesting programs. Best of luck to you. I also took the Craplan method. They were so-so. Exactly how I felt about them. Nothing I couldn't have studied and learned on my own, because their teachers aren't really teachers.

congrats!

Hey congratulations on Nova!!! Did you do anything aside from submitting an LSAC report to help your NOVA admission status? (ie. meet the staff, sit in on a class....)

Congrats

hey congrats on Nova.i have applied to all of your schools. i hope i get in somewhere. Why didnt you apply to Florida Coastal. You can stilly add that application to your pool. Good Luck to law school. i will be watching where you decide to go. You made a smart move by applying early. Happy New Years :)

In addition to nova and st. thomas, I applied to umiami and fiu. I was denied at umiami. Thank you for your kind words. - Scott

Hi, I just got accepted to Nova's AAMPLE, too. Will you be attending? I am a little hesitant since I've heard a LOT of poor things about the program, but I don't see myself having many other options with a low LSAT score. What are your thoughts?

congrats!! i am hoping for an accept too!!!! apparantly they have a pretty good sports law program!!! so maybe i will see u there.. if u can give me ANY info at all, i would love that!! there bar passage is great.. the only thing that scares me is the attrition rate.. also, LSAT score means NOTHING!!!! u obviously have great marks, and u will rock it out in LS!

thanks!!
Monday, September 04 2006 at 08:00 PM

hey, thanks! You can be my florida spy!! HAHA!! my preferences.. i want sports law for sure! so i think FloCo on the west side and Cal West on the east.. if something happens after feb 10th, then so be it! but for now, that is what i am aiming towards!!! id take FloCo over barry anyday!!!! what have you heard about St. Thomas?? ohh.. and the info you can gather would be awesome!!! any info about why such a high academic attrition.. and the overall feel of the school would be greattt!!! thanks!

Congrats

I can't believe they didn't respond to you until now, especially since you applied EA. From Sept. and Oct. to now is a long long wait. BUT DOUBLE CONGRATS, and best wishes!

Congrats

I'm happy to see that you can rise above a terrible LSAT score. I'm in your same boat and I got accepted to a tier 2 school. Sometimes they do look past scores. Congrats again!!

I am really excited that I got an acceptance somewhere. I am really interested in Entertainment Law and I have a small interest in Family law. I'm hoping a few classes will help me decide. What is your prospective concentration?

Thanks and Congratulations
Wednesday, August 16 2006 at 08:00 PM

Thanks for the reply. Very happy to see you had a successful cycle. I had the same approach as you; get great LOR, PS, and resume together and let the admissions committee see all the other things that I can bring to the table. What a relief it worked!

FCSL
Monday, December 18 2006 at 07:00 PM

I'm attending FCSL in the fall & I'm very excited about it. I really don't think they will be a lower tiered school for long- they have impressed me so much more than the already more established universities and I love the campus and Jacksonville area. This cycle has just seemed so bizarre to me. Last year those with my numbers were admitted to many of the schools I applied, whereas this year it seems if you don't have above a 156 you're out of luck. Not to discredit those people at ALL, but it just seems like a faulty way to judge potential when there's so much more than a four hour test. Anyway-I think you should definitely look into it! Their bar passage rate is better than the state average and you know something- it doesn't matter if you go to UF, Nova, or FSU-we all have to pass the same exact test. Also- some really prestigious law firms recruit at FCSL so I can't think that employers don't look at it favorably. Good luck and maybe I'll see you there! :)

yaa.. i applied super super early! umm.. october (early october..) and unfortunately, yaa.. they waitlisted me now!! i kinda know they use an index and if ur above it u get in quick.. apparantly i am not! but.. i am pretty sure i went up at least 1 pt on my new lsat... bc i kno i rocked out the games.. and hopefully a good scale will bring me over 152.. but yaa... i am on the waitlist:( and kinda shocked.. haha

Well congrats on making a decision! Doesn't it feel nice to finally know where you're going. I've been worrying about this since I first started undergrad, haha, it's nice to be done. =) I as well was hoping to use my JD in an animal related field. I don't know what my options would be, or if there is such a thing- but that's what I'm going to look into. I've heard something about there being an "Animal Law" program or organization at FloCo. So we'll see... One last thing- do you have any scholarship suggestions? I've been looking and it seems as though they all pertain to people about to enter Undergrad. Thanks for all your input! & congrats again.

Monday, September 04 2006 at 08:00 PM

yaa..i was kinda shocked! but i sent my app in super super early!! like october.. and they review with EVERY lsat... so yaa.. i kno if i go up like 1pt i will be in.. so i need to keep breathing.. breathing! and telling myself not to panic!!! i keep having lsat nitemares.. not healthy!!! i am doubting myself.. mis bubbling.. all that stuff.. but i am pretty sure i got perfect on the games! so i think i need to perhaps chill until i get my new score in, and then figure it out from there!! sitting out is tough.. esp when ur just outta UG.. my problem is, i dont wanna look for a job!! with my major, i could prob get a decent job.. but i am kinda lazy in the job hunt depo! but again.. i need to not stress and see what feb 10th has brought me... plus, i am gonna send out a letter and all that fun stuff!

Thank you

Thank you very much. I have Nova AAMPLE program acceptance but I dont know if I should go ahead with that. I am skeptical about this conditional program. What do you think of AAMPLE. About where I am leaning right now, I have a few applications pending at other schools. I am hearing good things about UDM so its definitely a possibility. Any advice/suggestions? Good Luck to a soon to be 1L.

thanks for the advice!!

Thank you very much for your advice. I really appreciate it. And dont worry about making it long, you can always email me. I look forward to get advice from others. I just got an acceptance email from Barry. Things are finally turning good for me. Whats your take on Barry? Feel free to email me to share your thoughts.

yaa i was pretty excited!! steve emailed me to say my aceptance was in te mail.. super nice especially since letters always arrive at least a month later!!! lol i am confused.. i love the location of FC, i want sports law so i figure that is a perfect fit for me... and with my background, my sports, i am not worried about getting a job after. i am jus tworried about attrition... do they have a mandatory flunk out rate? and like, i just do not want to be 120k in debt and graduate with a 20k job! LOL!! what was the feel when u visited there?? did u get the chance to talk to any students??? i wanted some students emails.. but he wouldnt give me any! again, thanx!!!!

Thanks for dropping by..

Monday, September 04 2006 at 08:00 PM

ahaha.. some random guy posted something bizarre on my wall.. like i 'finally' got what i wanted and i wasnt happy.. that isnt the case... i am just confused bc i have many many things to think about!!! i mean, 37k is expensive... and i am just questioning whether i should get my sports mba first..and see what happens with that... i actually dont mind spending 120k on law school.. i just want to know i will get a job when i graduate!!! it is alot of money to go that far in debt!!!! the closer i get to actually going.. the more scared and freakked out i get... anyways, i had an interesting convo with one of the directors of teh school and it really scared me in a way... but i will be honest, i am NOT a ranking whore.. i think they are bizarre in a way.. before, i just knew about harvard/yale/michigan.. and all the rest.. i didnt even know they were ranked!!! my biggest thing is getting a job and passing the bar.. but yaa.. i am still considering going.. but i may ask for a deferral until jan!!! i will wait another week and figure it out!!! i still really like the area and school... i mean, it is the only LS in the area.. wont there be alot of opportunities when you graduate? maybe i am just blind.. ahhh!!! btw.. did u get ur pad yet? where are the good areas to live? and like how much would it be for a 1bdrm or 2bdrm?? sorry for all these questions.. ahhh! i just need to figure some things out first! LOL!

Orientation
Monday, December 18 2006 at 07:00 PM

Hey! I'm definitely going to FCSL and have found an apartment and everything. I'm very excited. I did have one question though- I haven't heard anything about orientation. I just noticed that it's a week long ont he Academic Calander. I just was wondering if you could direct me to a certain website or something that tells more information just so I know what to expect, etc. Thanks! And good luck. See you in August!!! :)

Hey! I've been trying to relax and enjoy my last few months of freedom and life as I know it, but I'm very nervous! I AM excited as well, but anxious to get to the point where I'm like, okay I can handle this I KNOW I will graduate. Haha. That's all I know about Orientation too. I guess it is a ways off. But I'm just interested to see what they could possibly need a week long session for. I found an apartment about 3 minutes from school. MUCH more expensive for a lot less than what I'm used to here at FSU. But it'll be worth it I think.... Anyway- hope to see you as well. Good luck with the transition!
