Miami is one of the top schools that I thought I had a shot at getting into, so I hope so too. Good luck in your search, and congrats on LSU.

Congrats on LSU...maybe we will both end up at Florida or Florida State!!! It would be nice to have a fellow hokie there :) At least we know we will hear from Florida by the end of the month!

Blacksburg Mail
Friday, February 17 2006 at 07:00 PM

Now that we have gotten decisions it seems like the waiting game has gotten even more cruel doesn't it? We seriously checked the mail like 5 times today and yesterday...waiting is my least favorite game. Stop killing the router with torrents!!!

Forever
Sunday, January 29 2006 at 07:00 PM

My letters are taking too long for a different reason. The mailman did not deliver the news I wanted. I therefore anally raped him so he would know how I feel. He was subsequently reassigned, and I have not received mail since. Congrats on LSU. Disclaimer: For those people who may come across this quote and are completely oblivious to sarcasm, this story is not true. I really killed him and buried him in your back yard.

Stalking Mailwoman
Wednesday, February 08 2006 at 07:00 PM

I' think i beat u at the stalking..my poor mailwoman doesn't even want to say hi to me anymore, b/c I'm always asking if by any chance she misplaced a large manilla envelope from a law school...this 11th hr waiting is the worse..I THOUGHT MARCH WAS BAD, BUT DAMN APRIL IS A BOMBER!LOL

Why me for UF?
Monday, February 20 2006 at 07:00 PM

Theories as to why I got into UF: I worked at law firms, courthouses, and the Department of Defense. I worked during school. I am in an engineering degree at a top 10 public school (was top 10 when I entered, I don't know what it is now). I placed a strong emphasis on intellectual property which Florida needs more numbers for. Possibly I had an all-star letter of recommendation from someone. Too bad I don't get to read them.

Re: UF

Actually, UF gets the same amount of money for every student. The difference is that the state pays something like 2/3 of it for instate students. So out of staters are stuck paying that extra part. I have DoD experience as well, but over 3 years out of school. My PS also said that I wanted to do IP. We seem to be pretty similar. I sent in a letter of continued interest and noted some more accomplishments so hopefully they will like me more.

gainesville is def a college town- i like it, but some people don't because they come from larger cities or places that are close to metro areas. basically its 50,000 college students crammed into a small town- its fun, but tallahassee is a better option if you want more of a larger town atmospere (the legislature and fl supreme court are right across the street from the law school). miami isthe place to go if you want a big city. ill go to uf if i get off the waitlist, mainly b/c i am attached to it from undergrad, but i know ppl who are going to fsu or miami over uf tho b/c they are tired of gville. oh, and gainesville is about 1.5 hours away from the coast- miami is where to go for beaches. hope this helps!

Hey! I gave the same advice regarding Apartment Hunters to someone on LSD, and she said they were only modestly helpful. They'll definitely help you narrow down your choices, but you might want to try a real estate agent who can actually give you current info and availability on housing around the law school. Good luck!

apartment

places to live
Thursday, April 20 2006 at 08:00 PM

Hey! To answer your question, there arent many apartments by the law school, mostly houses. Most law students try to live in the houses in the neighborhoods around the school, that's what I'm going to try to do if I decided to stay here. At the Open House they (UF) told us they have a roomate matching system, so maybe look into that, people post stuff on it. I was trying to find a website you could see to help you out but all I see are apartment ones and there arent many apartments close by. The closest ones (Looking Glass Apts) are turning into Condos. Anyway, sorry for not being much help, but hopefully you'll find somewhere nice to live! (and I, I havent looked yet) Congrats on getting in! Go Gators!

Hi, I'm waitlisted at South Carolina too... are you planning on withdrawing from the waitlist since you accepted at Florida?

Houses in the ville, etc
Thursday, April 20 2006 at 08:00 PM

haha, ok, the houses. Well, College Park (they own apartments, houses) handles the renting of some, not sure what percentage though. There are a bunch that are on legacy (meaning they're passed on through friends, etc). I'd prob ask College Park if they have any available and if not try to see the law school's roomate matching thing since I hear it's helpful. Other than that, for houses, you have to ask around, hard for you since you're not here, I know. And in terms of rent, I'd say about $350-400 (not including utilities, furniture). Also, the apartments people have told you about are not as nice as others in Gainesville. I don't know what you're used to or how much you want to pay, but the ones I've read on your comments are the 'lower tier' of apartments in Gainesville. (not to sound like a snob, just trying to let you know) Ok, feel free to ask any more q's.

Good Luck!

Stetson???
Thursday, December 29 2005 at 07:00 PM

Congrats on UF----big accommplishment! If you haven't already, can you please withdraw from Stetson? Thanks.

housing...again
Thursday, April 20 2006 at 08:00 PM

Hey! Well, most houses around the law school are bigger than 2 bedrooms, I'd say most are 3-4. And all of them the individual rent is far less than $1,000. It's hard to tell you how to go about getting a house or a room in one, you just have to drive around and check out 'for rent' signs and whatnot. Sorry I'm not more help!!! So, have you visited yet? Let me know if you like it when you do! Bye!

Thursday, April 20 2006 at 08:00 PM

well, I am very glad you liked \\\'the ville\\\' (as its fondly known arund here). And hahaha, I am sooo sorry we don\\\'t have a super walmart, they\\\'re trying to make an existing walmart on 13th into one but there has been A LOT of opposition to it. But anyway, glad you found a place to live, enjoy your summer and see you in August!!!! =)
