ADDITIONAL INFO & UPDATES

10/19 - Got my score.

11/4 - Sent out the first round of applications. I'm still waiting on an LOR, so nothing will go complete until LSDAS receives that.

11/15 - LSDAS received my second (and final) LOR. Anxiously awaiting my first "complete" file.

11/16 - Complete at my first school!

12/5 - Learned via a skinny envelope that I'm in at Tennessee! Nice turnaround, Vols.

12/6 - In at Maryland! This is a nice way to kick off December.

12/16 - Very nice phone call from Richmond offering me admission to the law school. I feel like Richmond is on the rise. Keeping my fingers crossed for scholarship money.

12/22 - Thick packet from Catholic notifying me of my acceptance.

1/15 - Decision mailed from Vanderbilt today. For those who are curious (I was), I learned of this change in my application status via neurotic online status checks, not any notification from Vanderbilt.

Also, e-mail from Catholic offering me some dough.

1/17 - First rejection from Georgetown.

1/22 - Flattered to be waitlisted at Vanderbilt, a tad miffed to be waitlisted at Mason.

1/24 - Yay American!

2/2 - Waitlisted at GW. Fine by me.

2/11 - In at Ohio State! Buckeye blood runs in the family, so I'm excited about this. Could I stand three more Midwestern winters?

2/19 - I visited Maryland today and I LOVED it. None of the sites I've seen do justice to the law school or Baltimore. If you want to hear me blabber about my impressions, send a message.

Not going to Chicago. Don't really care.

3/14 - Dinged by Duke, rewarded by Richmond.

3/21 - 2008: Year of the Waitlists?

4/7 - Maryland it is! I know most of us - waitlisted as we are at so many schools - don't feel that this process is over yet. If I get off any of the waitlists I will reconsider my options. I'm blessed, however, to have found in Maryland a law school that I really like and am excited to attend.

7/1 - W&L ACCEPTS ME! SO EXCITED! On Friday (6/27) they sent me an "Are you still interested in us?" e-mail. I shot back an "absolutely." Now I am happily headed to rural Virginia!

Thanks. Good luck to you too! I do hope our major counts for something. I literally have no idea how many Classics majors apply to law school. Did you take any latin or ancient greek?

I spoke with a professor who bounces on and off the admissions committee and he told me that it looks just as good as a high profile academic extra curricular; he said that most admissions members will place importance on the time commitment aspect and the strains that travel, practice, etc. puts on academics.

Thank you for your best wishes! I do hope the military experience helps out and the fact that I took the LSAT while in a combat environment. With your GPA I wouldn't worry too much about scores, you will do great! I just updated my list a lot since the Army will only pay for state schools! Keep in touch and BEST OF LUCK!!

Hi! I'm so glad you messaged me. I really think being an athlete helps significantly - whole time management, discipline, handling pressure, etc... We're applying to a lot of the same schools (I still have to update mine) Good luck this cycle!!

  • Friday, November 02 2007 at 05:49 PM

Well you never know with the big schools either, you may have certain attributes which UVA desires. You never know until you apply. Good Luck! Georgetown and Vanderbilt are both a few of my "dream" schools. I'm not sure where I want to end up practicing law. I am actually looking to leave California and would not mind practicing law in any of the states (or D.C.) that I applied. I was in N.C. a month ago to visit Wake Forest and UNC, and I could definitely see myself practicing there. So I am still uncertain of where I would want to end up. What about you?

Don't know your story, don't know anything not on this page... but I'm thinking maybe an LSAT retake could pay off in a huge way. I have a classmate who went from your stats to a higher 160s number on the Feb. LSAT, and it meant tens of thousands of $. Of course, it might not be right for you.

Thank you so much for the kind words. I guess I didn't write that as a plea for sympathy but more just expressing my frustrations in writing in one of the only forums that I am on. I really hope that I start getting more decisions soon (and hopefully positive ones). I am keeping my fingers crossed for both of us! Again, congrats so far and keep em coming!

Thanks for the good wishes - same to you. W&M had a really quick turn around and your app was complete pretty early on, so i bet you'll hear soon. W & L on the other hand was a huge pain b/c of that Dean Certification form, so you'll probably hear before me. Good luck.

I was hoping you would get into GW as that would give me hope with my chance given my numbers! At least you fared better than I did with George Mason which means I am probably doomed w/ GW! Finally heard from Maryland though and was pretty stoked but UCONN sounds really good now as it is in-state and I am a veteran so it would be 100% FREE! That is most definitely appealing! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK AND KEEP ME POSTED! I haven't heard from you in a while, thought you had disappeared!

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to visit GMU this weekend, but I am already leaning towards MD for the reasons you mentioned as well as their highly ranked enviro law program. So we'll see. One other consideration for me was I have several friends at MD who were able to get in-state residency by their second year... not sure if it's that easy in VA (I'm a NJ res) Have you made any decisions?

Congrats on Maryland. I was wondering if you know how well maryland holds up in Va and the Dc area. Good Luck and maybe we will both end up at maryland.
