Really average soft factors- didn't seem to drag me down too much. I consider my cycle a huge success, and I am extremely happy with all of the options available to me.
I will be attending University of Kentucky Law School for free, beginning in August of 2009. I don't need anyone bashing my decision- I'm not blind, and I am perfectly capable of seeing the disparity in US News rankings... the thing is, I am a Kentucky kid, and I have zero desire for big law. As the sole Ashland Scholar for UK, I am both honored and humbled, and I can't wait to begin law school in August.
This is my last update to this page, but I will still be accepting comments and messages. Good luck to everyone throughout the rest of this cycle, and thanks for all of the help and advice.

Additional Information
Cycle's done... I quit updating dates, but the ones below should at least be helpful to some of you guys.
Decisions:
03/24/09- Final update. Over the past few weeks, I have received law school stuff galore. I was slightly (only slightly) disappointed with my scholarship from Vanderbilt, I was extremely impressed with my scholarship from WUSTL, and I was (and still am) overwhelmed by the opportunity to graduate debt-free from the best school within my home state. I was rewarded the Ashland Co. Scholarship from Kentucky- the highest scholarship UK offers. My wife and I plan to move to Lexington this August to begin the next stages of our lives and the first stages of me becoming a lawyer.
02/23/09- Big day- $26,000 from UK and $84,000 from Emory. Still holding out for a full ride from both.
02/02/09- Deferred at Columbia. I may stick this one out- not really sure yet.
01/21/09- Dean's Scholarship from Michigan- only requirement is a 2.0 GPA.
12/12/08- I am in at WUSTL, via e-mail today. I fear that this may be my last acceptance...
12/11/08- First bad news... waitlist at Virginia. I'm not surprised, and honestly, I wasn't going to go to Virginia anyway- still, it is disappointing. Went ahead and withdrew my application.
12/10/08- Phone call from the Dean of Admissions at Emory- I'm in. This is super exciting.
11/27/08- Letter from UK- I am under consideration for UK's most prestigious scholarship: full tuition, plus $5,000 annual stipend. I plan on interviewing in January.
11/26/08- Big package at Michigan- I'm in. I'm a little surprised, but very pleased.
11/22/08- In at Vandy! Huge package, priority mail. I am so excited!!! UPDATE: After speaking with adcomms from Vandy, I found out that I would probably qualify for a merit scholarship, but it is too early to know an amount. I was informed that I will know what kind of money I am looking at in February.
11/21/08- Snail mail from Kentucky- I'm in. Cool! Call me crazy, but the right offer would at least make me consider UK.
11/19/08- Vandy Application Status Checker has changed to Decision Sent. Good news... now I just have to hope nothing disastrous happens with the mail.
9/19/08- Accepted to Duke (Priority Track); e-mail (the scholarship package came maybe three or four days later)
Completions:
10/08/08- Complete at Michigan (This means I am complete everywhere!)
10/03/08- Complete at Harvard (status checker says "Under Review" so I am assuming...)
10/01/08- Complete at Columbia
9/25/08- Complete at WUSTL (called office to find out)
9/24/08- Complete at Vanderbilt
9/19/08- Complete at Kentucky
9/17/08- Complete at Emory (called office to find out)
9/11/08- Complete at Duke (Priority Track)
9/10/08- Complete at Virginia

Congrats! Friday, September 19th, 2008 at 5:38 pm
Congrats on Duke!
Friday, September 19th, 2008 at 6:19 pm
How did you go about getting those sweet fee waivers? Did you apply through LSAC for those or did the school offer them to you after receiving your app?
Woohoo Friday, September 19th, 2008 at 6:55 pm
Congrats on the Duke acceptance! You have great numbers. Good luck on your cycle!

On the Duke acceptance Lucas and good luck for the rest of your cycle though of course, I'm sure you don't need it!

Thanks, you too! Congrats on Duke.
Friday, October 10th, 2008 at 12:16 pm
Your numbers are obviously way better than mine, but I feel the same way about not having any debt and being torn between wanting to do something I think I love yet still wanting to be around when I eventually have kids. Good luck to you.
Hi Tuesday, October 14th, 2008 at 11:35 pm
I'm an Eastern undergrad. I think I wrote on your lawschooldiscussion post a while back. I see that you did extraordinarily well on the LSAT. How did you like Vanderbilt? As for me, I'll be hoping for UK, but Chase is probably going to give me close to a full-tuition scholarship, so that would be hard to turn down.
stanford? Saturday, October 18th, 2008 at 3:14 pm
hey man, you might want to consider applying to Stanford
you'd have a great shot

KY Monday, October 20th, 2008 at 4:33 pm
Well, I plan to practice here, so it only makes sense to go to law school here. I have no plans to apply to anything other than these 4 schools. I am debt averse, so graduating without debt from a state school seems to be a good decision to me. Granted, I don't have an amazing LSAT, but I am just trying to be realisitc. I think I might even want to go home to practice law, which is in a tiny KY town, so I doubt anyone is going to care where I went to school. Obviously if I wanted to work in a large firm I would apply to more. Quality of life is more important to me than money alone. Good luck with everything!
WUSTL Thursday, October 23rd, 2008 at 9:58 am
I had to email them for them to tell me that my application was complete.
Glitch Thursday, October 23rd, 2008 at 12:21 pm
Hey I've run into the same glitch when changing dates sometimes. I found the only way to fix it was to delete and add the application again.
AMTA Saturday, October 25th, 2008 at 2:39 pm
Actually, I graduated last year. I have been asked to judge one of those new semi-national things (i don't get this new system, im old) so good luck, do well, and maybe i'll be ur judge!

fee waivers Tuesday, October 28th, 2008 at 8:54 pm
what does one do to get that many fee waivers. Is there a process?
Wednesday, October 29th, 2008 at 4:35 pm
To the poster above- there really isn't a process. Just be registered for the LSDAS and have the numbers schools are looking for.
Thanks! Wednesday, October 29th, 2008 at 11:35 pm
Thanks for the well wishes Lucas. I hope you great luck on this cycle as well (you've already had success with Duke!). Good luck on getting that huge scholly at Vandy! I'll arm wrestle you to see who's more debt averse ;-)
DUKE Thursday, November 6th, 2008 at 11:19 am
Amazing that youre in and sooo early in the cycle.. congrats! Have they offered any money?
virginia admission Tuesday, November 11th, 2008 at 7:00 pm
The dean wrote me an email asking me to call him, and then informed me over the phone. There wasn't any indication in the email of the nature of our imminent conversation. I wasn't really sure what to expect.

Congratulations on Duke!

Congrats on your acceptances and a great LSN page. Don't go to UK, Lexington is awful, haha!

Hey Monday, November 24th, 2008 at 11:03 am
I got accepted to UK today! Congrats on Vandy (I saw on the other board) and good luck deciding where to go!
Congrats Friday, November 28th, 2008 at 1:12 am
Congrats on Michigan. You just keep piling up the acceptances! So I know you love Vandy, but if you get into Harvard, what would you do? It's awesome you have those kinds of opportunities, I'm just happy to get into UK : ) It's nice to see a fellow KY public regional school student do so well.
Thursday, December 4th, 2008 at 5:51 pm
Early congrats on the Vandy scholarship. I hope they throw lots of money at you in February! Good luck.

thanks, Lucas! congrats on everything (especially Michigan- i'm so jealous, lol) and best of luck hearing back from the rest! :)
Thursday, December 11th, 2008 at 12:30 am
so, according to LSN, we're going to be the only people at Emory next year! I feel special, hehe.
Virginia Thursday, December 11th, 2008 at 3:58 pm
If you don't mind me asking, why do you think you were waitlisted at Virginia? You seems like you have great numbers for them. I'm waiting to hear back, so it has me a bit nervous.
Thursday, December 11th, 2008 at 9:04 pm
hahaha I don't think you have to worry about me being a gunner. ;) (you also don't have to worry about me being at emory at all if they yield protect the $$$ like i've heard- we'll see!)
UVA Friday, December 12th, 2008 at 3:30 pm
I can't believe your numbers got you waitlisted at UVA. Oh well, I would go to Vandy over them anyway if I were you. Are you still thinking about UK if they give you a full ride? I am probably not going to get any money with my LSAT, but I am happy to be in and am about 95% sure I will be in Lexington next fall.
Friday, December 12th, 2008 at 3:40 pm
thanks for the good luck wishes! congrats on all your acceptances! Your numbers are awesome :)
Wash U Wednesday, December 17th, 2008 at 3:42 am
Congrats on the WUSTL acceptance, hopefully they'll give you enough money to entice you to come here...I suspect they'll give it a pretty good shot. Drop me a line if you have any questions about the school, best of luck with the rest of the cycle. Don't count yourself out at H or C yet, although I can't begin to understand why you're more interested in Columbia than UChicago :)
Congrats! Monday, December 22nd, 2008 at 2:20 pm
Congrats on your great cycle and good luck next year. Any chance you want to withdraw from anywhere. . . especially Mich? ;)
Haha thanks! Saturday, January 17th, 2009 at 3:11 am
I can't guarantee I'd attend if accepted. Financial aid is going to play a huge role in my decision. Nevertheless, I'm incredibly excited.
Also, not necessarily a clean sweep. I have some hidden apps that I'll disclose soon enough :)

you look to be doing pretty damn good for yourself as well. i also did mock trial! save bobbie campbell! is vanderbilt a lock for you or are you leaning toward somewhere else? that michigan scholarship is pretty sweet, right?
Thursday, January 22nd, 2009 at 2:44 pm
well i live in brooklyn, so i'm leaning toward NYU, but scholarship offers from duke (my home state) or georgetown (<3 DC) would certainly hold a lot of sway. holding out hope for a call from harvard, but as the days go by that hope gets smaller and smaller. come on barack, make HLS show me some love!
re: wustl Tuesday, February 17th, 2009 at 9:05 am
I made a mistake by listing the scholarship money from W&L as being from WashU.
I still haven't heard back from WashU about funding.
PS: congrats on your acceptances!

I'm sure you will do well at UK. I'm expecting some flack for choosing Iowa over Michigan.
Friday, April 10th, 2009 at 11:15 am
ZOMG DID YOU C TEH USNWR RANKINGZ??!!1 Lol, just kidding man, congrat on the decision and the awesome cycle. I'm sure you'll love it at UK, good luck!
Monday, April 13th, 2009 at 12:44 pm
Yeah, the process still doesnt seem real, I can't believe I'll be moving in just a couple months! So what changed your mind about Vandy? Judging by your LSD name I thought you'd be stoked by their offer! I can understand your decision, paying the $$$ for a top school is great if you have biglaw aspirations to pay it off, no sense racking up debt if your looking for a job that would be possible from either school. I was considering doing the same thing, but my local schools weren't as generous (Villanova and Rutgers).
Grats Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009 at 9:44 am
Congrats on Kentucky. Wow, you had some awesome choices! but I won't hate on you for going to the best school in your home state, and debt free too!
Sunday, May 3rd, 2009 at 1:13 am
Dude I applaud your decision. UK is an excellent choice.
