Additional info & updates

10/9-Complete at Vandy via e-mail

10/17-Complete at Texas via online status check

10/24-Complete at W&L via e-mail after asking them if they had received my dean's certification letter

10/31-Complete at William and Mary via e-mail

10/31-Complete at GWU after asking them about my status. My app has actually been complete for some time now, but this is just the date I found out.

11/12-Still waiting on a dean's cert for Cornell...but my app has been under review for the past 2 or 3 weeks.

11/14-Finally went complete at Cornell...that's everywhere. Now time for the wait....

11/15- IN AT WILLIAM AND MARY!!!! It came priority mail. I'm so excited....

Also received a $6,000 renewable scholarship.

12/7- Received an acceptance at W&L via an e-mail from the admissions director. I'm very excited!!!

12/18-Received deferral letter from Cornell.

12/17-Rejected at NYU...hurt my feelings just a little bit but def expected.

12/22-Placed on preferred waitlist at G-town a week after my interview

12/28- My boyfriend called me today to let me know that I received an e-mail from GW congratulating me on my acceptance. I can't believe I got in!!!

1/10- I'm getting just a little anxious to hear from Vandy. I wonder what is taking so long....

1/11-Deferred at Penn

1/16-I came home today to a huge acceptance package from Vanderbilt!!!!! My status changed to decision mailed on the 11th and I was starting to wonder what was taking so long to hear from them. I'm beyond excited.

1/28-This month has been a little slower than I thought it would be...

1/30- Received an e-mail from W&L. I got a scholarship for $15,000/yr. That's a lot of money...

Also deferred at Northwestern...they won't re-evaluate my application until May?!?!?!

2/7- Received a phone call from Monica Ingram tonight letting me know I was accepted at Texas. I def thought I wasn't getting in because I was out of state and it seemed like forever since I applied.

2/8-I'm very excited to now have Texas as an option. Financial aid is going to play a big role in where I decide to attend. I already have debt from undergrad and would prefer to add as little to it as possible.

2/13-Rejected at Columbia but it's ok because I only applied because they gave me a fee waiver

2/21-Waitlisted at Duke via e-mail. I really am not that concerned about it and prob won't stay on bc I already live in the area and really don't want to go to school here.

3/1-Received a letter from Vandy offering me a $20,000/yr renewable Dean's scholarship. I am completely floored. I can't believe they gave me any money at all especially this much. I was almost 100% sure I'd be heading to GW in the fall and now I don't know. I wish GW would give me any kind of money (not that I'm very hopeful). I'll be planning a trip to Nashville in the very near future.

3/3-Planning a trip to visit W&L and W&M since I probably won't be able to make the ASD.

3/12-Waitlisted at Penn

4/2-Originally deferred at Chicago on 2/5, now placed on the waitlist

4/3- General waitlist at UVA

4/5-Received $15,000 from Texas over three years as well as Texas residency. Since money is important to my decision I probably won't really consider them anymore....unless I can get some need based aid.

4/7-Choosing a school has not been as easy as I thought it would be. I have to make my mind up in the next few days because of seat deposit deadlines. And who knows, maybe I'll make it off of one of my many waitlists this summer.

4/11-Completely shocked...accepted at Cornell via e-mail!!!!

4/30-So I ended up paying the first deposit at both GW and Cornell. I paid the GW deposit before I even knew I got into Cornell. I still love GW but Cornell is hard to pass up and it's not like GW gave me a ton of fin aid. I'm trying to hang on for one of my waitlisted schools which has been my absolute first choice the entire cycle. I'll prob give them another month to see if anything happens but if not I prob will be at Cornell in the fall. Waitlists suck!!!

5/15-Pending any waitlists I'll be at Cornell in the fall. I received a substantial amount of money and cannot justify going to GW and taking on a huge amount of debt.

5/16- Rejected from NU after being deferred...I'm actually suprised because I thought I withdrew a while ago...LOL.

7/4-Rejected off the Penn waitlist about a week or two ago and forgot to update my profile.

7/12-Rejected off UVA waitlist on a Saturday and at around 8 or 9 pm...nice LOL.

Friday, September 01 2006 at 08:00 PM

please, for your sake, apply to higher ranked schools. Definitely throw in an app to CLS and UVa.

The Question
Monday, August 27 2007 at 08:00 PM

i took your advice and just applied to Duke University..how are you doing so far? are u trying to get into the best school possible or get the best financial aid package?

Public Interest
Monday, August 27 2007 at 08:00 PM

hey angeltwin, in my situation, i really want to practice public interest law and some top schools (uva, vandy) have really weak or nonexistent public interest programs..ahh, if only i could get into berkeley!

WHOA!
Monday, August 27 2007 at 08:00 PM

is that a national law or specific to certain states? thanks for sharing that with me....are u familiar with the loan rapyment assistance program for public interest lawyers? are you coming straight from undergrad?if not, what are some of your work experiences?currently, I am doing community organizing in CO.

Aim Higher

I know that it's been said a couple times already, but I really think you should add some schools in the T10.

Wednesday, September 19 2007 at 08:00 PM

Not sure yet. I'm going to weigh proximity to NY (or if it's not close at all, how easy it would be to get there), money, and rank when all is said and done.

VERY SIMILAR
Monday, September 17 2007 at 08:00 PM

We have very similar numbers - I will be interested to see how you do! Keep in touch and GOOD LUCK!!!

thanks!

Cornell
Wednesday, September 19 2007 at 08:00 PM

Just noticed you were deferred at Cornell too...are you going to send updated materials and such?

No More Materials
Monday, August 27 2007 at 08:00 PM

Hey girl..no, I am not planning on sending anything else to Berkely..when I was first defererred, I read an interview of Edward Tom--the Dean of Admissions--and he said sending things does nothing to improve your chances..happy new year!

congrats
Sunday, January 23 2005 at 07:00 PM

GW Visit
Monday, August 27 2007 at 08:00 PM

Hey girl, I hope all is well after the holidays. I actually got an opportunity to visit GW today. The law school is in a nice location and is a fairly new building. However, i was very disappointed by its lack of diversity and questionable commitment to public interest. After chatting with a student, there seems to be some serious competition amongst the student body as well. I am not sure if you are intending on visting, but you seriously consider it before you choose to attend.

Jan and Feb
Monday, August 27 2007 at 08:00 PM

Hey, dont sweat it! decisions will start rolling in by the end of the month and by the beginning of next month. You are halfway done with the process! How exicting! Thanks for the warm wishes about Boalt. My biggest concern right now is figuring out how I am going to finance law school and how much debt is too much..

Good Luck
Thursday, January 03 2008 at 07:00 PM

Thank you, and good luck on the rest of your apps as well!

Where to go
Wednesday, August 29 2007 at 08:00 PM

Hey, I was just wondering if you were leaning towards any school in particular. We have similar acceptances, and I am having a hard time selecting a program. Have you had the opportunity to visit? Any suggestions?

Congrats on Vandy!
Monday, August 27 2007 at 08:00 PM

Congrats on Vandy! is it one of your top choices?

Ditto
Monday, October 22 2007 at 08:00 PM

Congrats on Vanderbilt!

Thanks!
Monday, August 27 2007 at 08:00 PM

Thanks girl..i am now done waiting for accpetances and I am booking flights to check some of these places out. I am planning on going to Chicago for NU, and then Uof Illinois and Indiana University. I am taking a week off of work to visit all three..how are you feeling? congrats on the Washington Lee scholarship.. -cma

Congrats!
Monday, October 01 2007 at 08:00 PM

On Texas!

OMG!
Friday, May 25 2007 at 08:00 PM

Congrats on UTA! Are you instate? Is it one of your top choices? I would have applied but figured it was wasted $$ for me.

GWU
Friday, May 25 2007 at 08:00 PM

I'll probably go depending on money and whether or not I get into the T-14. But if I were in your shoes and had had the cojones to apply to UTA, I'd choose it over GW. Austin is lovely and UTA is incredibly well respected all over the country. I'm on the west coast and it places much better here than GW does.

Congrat on UT!
Monday, August 27 2007 at 08:00 PM

Hey girl..congrats on UT! I hear Austin is really nice..

Hello
Saturday, February 09 2008 at 07:00 PM

Congrats on all your acceptances and this cylce. Wish I could feel better about my chances. Just looking for some feedback on my chances. If you get a chace please tell me what you think

Thanks
Saturday, February 09 2008 at 07:00 PM

Thank you for getting back to me. I would love to see your old page and kind of get an idea for what i'm in for. It would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Saturday, October 27 2007 at 08:00 PM

So far, UIUC is my top choice. Like you, I have undergrad loans and I think I have a good chance of getting in-state at UI. With the scholarship, I'd be going their for barely nothing. I'd rather go to UCLA though! You have fantastic acceptances as well. What about you, what's your first choice?

sms
Thanks!
Monday, August 27 2007 at 08:00 PM

Yah, I am actually deciding between NU and Indiana at this point. I think the visit will really allow me to see where I will be comfortable..deep down, I know i will get a bettter legal education at NU but a full tuition scholarship is hard to overlook..how are you doing with decisions? I am going to start withdrawing from some of these schools next week..

Congrats!
Monday, November 26 2007 at 07:00 PM

Congrats on your schools! Whats your #1?

On deciding
Wednesday, December 19 2007 at 07:00 PM

Thanks! I'll need it. Nope, no clear front-runner at the moment, but I've made myself up a spreadsheet to help make a decision :) I'm hoping once I hear about Fin. Aid from everybody it will be a little easier.

Congrats!
Monday, January 07 2008 at 07:00 PM

Congrats on all of your acceptanc! Is there any school that you are leaning towards right now?

Checking In
Monday, August 27 2007 at 08:00 PM

Hey..how are you doing? are you leaning towards Vandy now?

Hey
Monday, August 27 2007 at 08:00 PM

Hey..i was off this board for like a month. I called NU today and they said they cant raise it. But, what do you think? is it worth it? Im worried about picking IU-B and then later regretting that I didnt go to the better school. Vandy is awesome! I am sure you will like W&m, I have a friend there know who seems to be enjoying it. Be sure to take pictures. What is your email addy? I can send you my NU pics!

On Cornell!!! Does this change where you might be going in the fall?

Cornell vs. GW
Thursday, February 07 2008 at 07:00 PM

IMO, I would go to Cornell. Cornell is going to make it so much easier to do whatever you want to do. GW isn't going to be able to put you in the same positions whether it's government, public interest, firms etc... Cornell will have placement advantage in every single market (including) DC and with the economy in the sorry state it is, I just don't think that now is the time to be taking risks. The only downside to Cornell is that it's in Ithaca (though that may be a good thing to you). If you really like DC or you hate Ithaca, I guess you could be leaning towards GW, but I think anyone in your position to suck it up for 3 years to attend Cornell, because it just opens so many more doors. And remember that you aren't really spending 3 years in Itacha. At most you'll spend 24 months there. And you could really do your last year abroad, visiting another school, or getting an externship somewhere. To sum it all up, I would go to Cornell. If they gave me a little more money, I probably would've gone over Michigan.
