Extra Curricular Information

I will post my resume here when I am done with my cycle. I do not fear any adcomms looking at this, however. In fact, I welcome them; please do not hesitate to contact me with any further questions. I would love to go to your school!

Numbers on the left are not rankings but rather, are ChiaShu's percentage of me getting in. Wow.

Sending in applications for some schools that I received fee waivers from. So far: W&L, St. Thomas, U of Akron
______________________________________________________________________________
10-23-07
Applied to AU, BC, Fordham, Rutgers Camden, UMICH, UNC
______________________________________________________________________________
10-24-07
Applied to Cornell and UCLA. I think I may apply to Emory tonight and be done with the entire application process. These applications are also starting to add up as I've spent almost $800 so far.
______________________________________________________________________________
10-30-07
Applied to U of IL. I thought I was done applying but their fee waiver was too enticing not to apply.
______________________________________________________________________________
11-03-07
Applied to GMU due to a fee waiver.
______________________________________________________________________________
11-05-07
Northwestern fee waiver. What? Clerical error, I am sure. Applied with great enthusiasm. I have already requested an interview and I hope they get back to me soon.
______________________________________________________________________________
11-17-07
Something keeps telling me to apply to Emory so I have. I'm not sure what it is about Emory specifically, but I know I will regret not applying here. I would love to attend there and I may have a shot. I didn't think I did at first, which is why I abstained, but if I got in, Emory would be a top choice.
______________________________________________________________________________
11-19-07
Finally complete at Fordham. Spent about a week and a span of three emails speaking to someone from admissions. They were just backed up in processing. Almost a month to get complete. I hope that doesn't hurt my chances.
______________________________________________________________________________
11-25-07
IN AT AMERICAN!!!! Yes! I know it pales in comparison to where some people are currently being accepted but I would love to go to American. It's good to know that I have a place where I will be happy.

Package came in a USPS Priority Mail flat rate envelope. Nothing about money included.

I can't believe I just changed the status from Pending to Acceptance. This blows my mind.

11-26-07
Spoke to the person in charge of the Dean's Certification for my school and he still hasn't sent it out. This is why I am still incomplete at W&L and Cornell. It hasn't been sent out because of a person being on vacation for two weeks. It should be out by tomorrow. I'm glad I asked; could have gotten me into trouble by believing it would be taken care of. Always keep on top of your business regardless of who you have delegated a bit of responsibility to. I'm not saying he's irresponsible. I'm just glad I'm aware of the situation.
______________________________________________________________________________
12-04-07
Complete at W&L. That means the Dean's Certification finally went out. Thus, I should be going complete at Cornell as well.
______________________________________________________________________________
12-05-07
Accepted to U of Akron! Got a phone call while on the train. Information is in the mail.
______________________________________________________________________________
12-10-07
Received a status checker email (or three emails, actually) from Emory. Went complete there less than a week ago. I cannot wait to hear back from them as they are a top choice of mine. The fact that scholarships are rather prevalent there, according to LSN, is icing.

Also received Akron packet in the mail. This is my second acceptance packet but wow, it's amazing and full of stuff. My only other experience is with the American packet which is rather bare and spartan compared to this. I mean, this thing is huge. DVD, pseudo-degree certificate of acceptance, city guide. Impressive. Scholarship information will arrive in "mid to late February 2008." I can't wait to hear from them.
______________________________________________________________________________
12-11-07
Decision at U of IL via their status checker. WHOA. I was having so much fun changing "Pending" to "Accepted" but it looks like this will put a stop to my fun. This is unprecedented because this is the first of the schools where I am unsure as to what their disposition towards me is. Seems like a coin flip. I have also heard that scholarship offers are included with this (Okay, I know. I am worried about even being admitted and now I'm going on talking about scholarships.) This is serious stuff.
______________________________________________________________________________
12-12-07
I keep saying I'm done applying but there are several more schools I wanted to apply to, but didn't based on application fees. UWisc sent me some application materials and I asked about a fee waiver; it was granted so I applied. I have heard Madison is an excellent town. Not sure how it will bode for a city dude like me but we'll see. Its academics are very respectable so I am excited to hear from them.
______________________________________________________________________________
12-13-07
Decision at St. Thomas. I called them to find out if I was complete as I've heard nothing from them (not one email) since applying. The woman over the phone told me that not only was I complete but I also reached decision. The letter will go out today. Decisions! This cycle is just starting to get rolling. BC and Cornell EAs are coming soon as well, though I highly suspect waitlist/rejection.

Great. Rejected at Fordham via status checker. This one stings... a lot.

Busy day. Cornell status checker says complete, finally. This should not preclude me from the EA pool as I've been complete without the Dean's Certification much earlier than their EA deadline. It was stated that the DC was not needed to be able to reach a decision so I am hoping it has no effect on their ability to consider me as EA.
______________________________________________________________________________
12-14-07
Deferred from UMich ED pool. No surprise.

Received holiday card from St. Thomas. I thought it was a little too early for the decision letter to arrive from yesterday.

Received scholarship application from U of Akron.

No UIUC today. I really thought today was going to be the day the letter got here.
______________________________________________________________________________
12-16-07
Came back to find a letter from St. Thomas with a $15k/year scholarship. Nice! My first scholarship.
______________________________________________________________________________
12-17-07
In at UIUC! YES! No scholarship info, though. That's not good. Only one other with my index on LSN has a scholarship. I am so happy with this acceptance and am thankful enough to be accepted rather than upset that I have no money from them. Maybe they will reevaluate it upon my asking.

Out at BC. Meh, not surprised. It hurts less when you expect it.

Additional info & updates

12-18-07
In at Rutgers Camden with a scholarship! Received an email from them after hearing nothing since I sent in my application. Personalized email that was about my personal statement. The email states that my academic record and the personal statement were factors in issuing my scholarship. Eh, who knows. I'm just glad to hear this sort of recognition from Rutgers. It's a beautiful thing. And a t-shirt is on its way, too. I can't wait to get their acceptance packet, which should arrive in a week.
______________________________________________________________________________
12-24-07
Cornell application checker changed to decision. I am not delighted because I know it's a rejection/eternal waitlist. I'm not at my current address, where I suspect they sent the mailing, so I won't see it until January 2nd, the earliest.
______________________________________________________________________________
01-02-08
Vanderbilt fee waiver. Applied ASAP.
______________________________________________________________________________
01-04-07
IN AT EMORY LAW!!!!! YES!!!! This is huge! I am so very excited. Got a phone call from the Dean at 3:50 EST. First thing I did was call my mom and now it's 3:55 and I am updating LSN with the good news. AMAZING!!!!
______________________________________________________________________________
01-07-08
Called Cornell about my decision date and no letter. Denied. Must be weird for the woman. I could tell it was a rejection by her not telling me immediately and asking if I wanted to know. Not surprised; doesn't hurt.

Rejection letter from George Mason. Wow, not a good day. But I don't really care as I am happy with my other acceptances right now.
______________________________________________________________________________
01-15-08
Complete at Vandy via status checker. Received UPenn fee waiver in the mail. You know how I know when law schools try to lower their acceptance rate? I hope I get a UMich one so I can get my app fee back.
______________________________________________________________________________
01-22-08
Rejected at UCLA via snail mail. Sucks but not unexpected. I really would have loved to be in LA for once in my life. Not happening now, I suppose. I would be mad because I really would have gone to UCLA but it's not a surprise at all, so there's nothing to be upset about.
______________________________________________________________________________
01-25-08
Out at Northwestern via status checker update through an email reminder. Weak! Why would they send me a fee waiver when they know my stats are what they are. I knew I had zero chance coming into it but man, way to tease some hope out of me.

Now that I have my definite rejections out of the way (Except UMich), I feel the other schools I have a good shot at. Save for maybe UNC and most likely Vandy.
______________________________________________________________________________
02-04-07
I can't believe I'm only waiting on six more schools. This cycle is almost over. That's crazy. Remember waiting for undergrad until April? How did we deal?

Got another t-shirt and a hat from Rutgers. Thanks! And more things from American about their school. They really do a good job of making you feel welcome. I'm a little sad to hear about their stinginess with money, though, as it's a huge factor in my decision.
______________________________________________________________________________
02-08-08
Went to decision at UMich via status checker. It's going to be a rejection. This sucks.
______________________________________________________________________________
______________________________________________________________________________
02-11-08
Got the letter of rejection at UMich. No T14 for me.
______________________________________________________________________________
02-29-08
Full tuition from Akron. Great to know I can go somewhere for free. Finally some good news in almost two months of bad. Came via email; requirements to keep it are STEEP. Top 65% of your class during Fall 1L and then top 10% afterwards. That's rough.

Akron has been so nice during this entire process. No other school here has made the recruiting effort they have. I know they get a lot of crap on the law school forums about spamming more qualified candidates but they truly offer the most welcoming hand to their applicants.

Still delighted about my acceptance to Emory and hope to hear something about money from them soon, being that they said "the end of February."

Just received an email from them not too long after I posted that previous paragraph. Information about chat sessions from Emory and a statement about scholarship offers being sent out this week.

Waitlisted at Fordham! NO!!! I wonder if I would have gotten in the first time around had I applied for PT the first time around. This is weak. Better than a rejection but I wonder what my chance is of getting admitted off of it. There goes my theory of not having any WLs this cycle.

This was a pretty busy day.
______________________________________________________________________________
03-17-08
Rejection from UWisc. I didn't expect that. Not happy about this.

Still nothing about money from Emory. Everyone is getting loads of money and I'm not receiving anything :(
______________________________________________________________________________
03-24-08
Decision at Vanderbilt. Oh crap. I hope I can choose between Emory, Fordham, and Vanderbilt. That would be amazing and a problem I'd love to have.
______________________________________________________________________________
03-31-08
Rejection at Vanderbilt. I'd just like to thank them for giving me the fee waiver which ultimately provided me the opportunity to lower their acceptance rate to better their US News ranking. I really dislike when schools do this.
______________________________________________________________________________
04-01-08
Deposit date for Akron goes by. Withdrawn. I want a degree I can bring to NY and even though they've been amazing through this whole process, I will have to let the auto-withdrawal proceed.
______________________________________________________________________________
04-02-08
In at UNC via email! Finally some good news after a string of rejections! Scholarship information should be coming by the end of the week through email, according to the acceptance email.
______________________________________________________________________________
04-03-08
$5k/year from UNC via email I was excited about UNC but this is way too late. However, they're obviously the best "value" for me right now. Hmm.
______________________________________________________________________________
04-08-08
And with a final snail mail ding from W&L, my cycle is over! Well, except for the Fordham WL but decisions everywhere! It's been real, LSN class of 08.
______________________________________________________________________________
04-14-08
Withdrawal letter from St. Thomas

Hey 4re, Good luck on your applications. Looks like you are casting a wide net. I am trying to do the same thing. I am sure you are glad to have all of your apps in. Hope you get some acceptances soon.

Good luck man. We have similar numbers and you've got a bunch of good schools in there. For some reason I keep getting stuff from W&L even though I feel way out of their range. I also got the fee waiver so I guess I'll apply, it just seems like its futile? Anyway best of luck in your cycle.

Hi, This site has been incredibly helpful to me as a URM and I definitely want to help others. But right now I'm just trying to avoid flames on my account. After the cycle's been up for a while, I'll change it to help future generations of LSNers. But the site isn't very well moderated and the last thing I need is some of the hatred I've seen on other people's accounts. Thanks for the congrats--right back atcha!

Thanks...
Monday, October 22 2007 at 08:00 PM

And congrats on American! I love DC and applied there also. Great school. You're on my watch list, so I'll be pulling for both of us with our t25 schools.

congrats!
Sunday, October 28 2007 at 08:00 PM

congrats on american! that's an awesome school. hopefully i'll get in too!

re: UIUC
Thursday, October 25 2007 at 08:00 PM

Yeah, I thought the letter would be here by now. The status checker said 'letter mailed - 12/07/07"

hey
Thursday, November 15 2007 at 07:00 PM

So sorry about Fordham. Your numbers combined were better than mine. I don't think I'm getting in there. :(. Congrats though on your other acceptances.

Hey...
Monday, October 22 2007 at 08:00 PM

Thanks, 4re. Ha..the negativity has def. begun. Thanks for warning me about that. Sorry about Fordham, but g/l with the rest. I'm sure you'll have some great acceptances up there to list alongside American.

Congrats

Congrats on your acceptances!! BTW you have U of Illinois as decision made, but its still under pending. I assume its an acceptance?

I changed it so that only registered users can post...I didn't even think about doing that in the beginning. Thanks. Did you get into UIUC???? If so, CONGRATS!!! I'm expecting a ding from them...I haven't heard anything back yet. Oh, about me sticking to the T14, haha...I never thought I would get into a T14--let alone two. Hence the reason why I sent out such a broad range of apps. I'll likely be withdrawing places soon.

UIUC
Saturday, October 27 2007 at 08:00 PM

Hey, we're in the same boat at UIUC now. Went to decision today. I'm worried--it's only been 4 days since it went into review. Do you remember how fast your turn around was?

On UIUC. Sucks about no $$ though. Maybe when people start to withdraw they will give you some money. What's your first choice anyway?

Monday, October 22 2007 at 08:00 PM

I went to 'Decision' at UIUC today....ahhh. so nervous... and the letter is being mailed to my campus address so I won't even see it until after the holidays...lol. did they send you a welcoming email or anything similar?

congrats!!!
Thursday, December 13 2007 at 07:00 PM

On Emory!!! I'm officially jealous! :-D

Good Job!
Friday, May 25 2007 at 08:00 PM

Congrats on Emory! Since we're both in at American with similar numbers, I'm hoping your Emory acceptance bodes well for me. Did you go to "decision" on the status checker? I'm still at complete.

Emory
Thursday, November 15 2007 at 07:00 PM

I'm DYING for an acceptance at Emory...I've been complete there for over 3 months! And at American! Did your status checker change to decision?

Wisconsin
Monday, November 05 2007 at 07:00 PM

I received an email from them saying that my "file was in line for review." I took it to mean that I was complete there. Did you receive the same one?

OMG
Thursday, December 13 2007 at 07:00 PM

I swear you freaked me out for like half a second. I saw the "We fudged our numbers" and I just paused and stared at the 170+/4.0!! Until of course I looked down and saw the rest of what you put, lol. BTW- wuts up with George Mason?!!! hmph!! At least you have other great schools to look forward to :o) And thanks for the support!

congrats on all your acceptances, you definitely set yourself up for some great opportunities. quick question: are going directly from undergrad to law school or did u take time off?

Congrats!

Congrats on all of your acceptances so far and good luck with Vanderbilt!

Emory
Monday, October 22 2007 at 08:00 PM

I'm not considering them anymore, but I never heard anything either and I'm pretty sure I sent them my FAFSA and everything. Maybe they are just slow with the process? Are they your top choice? If so, I'm hoping they'll come through in a big way for you.

UNC
Saturday, January 05 2008 at 07:00 PM

Grats on UNC -- in a very "what have you done for me lately" move, I'm really suddenly starting to consider them (I'm in state if that helps) Congrats on your awesome cycle -- don't let the string of rejections get you down; you're going to law school! By the way, since you asked before, I'm waytofailself on TLS.

After visiting them...not so much
Saturday, January 05 2008 at 07:00 PM

I'm actually a good deal lower on UNC now than I was when I got accepted. One of the big deals was visiting their campus. Their facilities are dated...and dingy...and the parking situation for the law school is trouble. They're breaking ground on a new law building, but it won't be finished until 2011 at the earliest. There seemed to have been some trouble with funding and hiring a dean, but they seem to have righted the ship on that one. I don't know what effect that will have on the short term...if any. However, that they seemed to have been so disorganized about admissions is troubling to me (ex. they said they'd let everyone know about scholarships by the end of last week). I'm not going to say don't go there; UNC is still a good school and Chapel Hill is still the lovely college town it always is that places very well in state and has some national recognition and a strong alumni network. However, It's just not the school for me (but I learned that back when I took summer courses there and reaffirmed it on my visits.) You have plenty of awesome options, and between UNC and Emory I'm not sure if you can do wrong.

Hey
