Additional info & updates

I am really excited to start applying and find out where I get in. I know some of the places I am applying are long shots...but you never know. I was a little disappointed how much my GPA dropped because of LSDAS but I guess those are the breaks! I am interested in anything anyone has to say about the schools I am applying or just any advice!

I will be so glad when the applications are in and I am waiting to receive the letters. I am currently working on a very large medical malpractice case for an attorney in North Carolina. I have learned a lot about researching and writing briefs. Hopefully the experience will be applicable.

10-31-06 --> All applications are in. Now the wait begins. Hopefully I will start to get notices that everything is complete before too long. This might be the hardest part. I will update any time I get something.

11-01-06 --> I received notice that all of the schools I have applied to have received my application. They have not received the entire package...just the application portion. I read that it would be approximately 3-4 weeks before I could become complete at any school, I will keep this updated. Good Luck everyone!

11-4-06 --> I recieved a small white envelope from Campbell today, I was kind of nervous when I saw it only a few days after they had received my application. I am not complete at any school yet. Campbell wants to set up an interview...

11-9-06 --> I keep getting emails from schools that they have received my application and have requested by LSDAS report. I am thinking my Thanksgiving I should be complete at all 20 schools unless there is some issue.

11-22-06 --> Had my interview at Campbell. It seemed to go well and the professor I interviewed with was very cool. Sounds like I might have a pretty good chance there. When I got home there was a white envelope from Arkansas, thought it might be to let me know I was complete...but they rejected me. I guess it said that I wasn't index admitted and therefore would need to submit various other things if I wanted to be considered further...I felt like from their letter they didn't encourage me to do so, so I went ahead and took that as my first rejection. I liked the school but I am not sure if had been able to choose between that one and any of the others are my list I would have went there...so I was not too heartbroken.

11-30--06 --> Big envelope says "Welcome to Florida School of Law." I got my first acceptance and $12,000 with it. That was very exciting!

12-01-06 --> Small white envelope from Tulsa. Accepted to another school. No money offered here. Still an option though.

So far things are looking good...1 denial and 2 acceptances...hopefully I can keep that up!

12-10-06 --> I also got rejected from LSU. Haven't heard much else, a few Christmas cards and some letters letting me know I am complete. The first couple coming in early were teasers now I am getting anxious about the rest. I guess no matter what though I am going to law school.

Hope all is going well for the other LSN users out there! Good Luck.

12-19-06 --> Haven't had much luck since the first two...kind of a bummer right before Christmas but I hope that I will get some good news after Christmas. I hope everyone else is having better luck than I! Have a Merry Merry Christmas!

1-10-07 --> Well I received a disappointing letter from NCCU. I guess that was one school I had no idea what answer they would return. Waitlisted. It seems hard to believe when my numbers are well above theirs...but they are one school that bases their acceptances on SO many other factors. When I went to visit, they told me even with my numbers my chances of getting in were slim. They have a 13% acceptance rate. Sad day at my house...but I guess that means I am so supposed to attend law school elsewhere...maybe Florida Coastal...but I will have to see what the MidWest Schools bring. I hope everyone else is starting to get some acceptances back!

1-16-07 --> So I got into Texas Wesleyan...but didn't send them my information...not sure how something like that happened. Anyways I guess another acceptance is another acceptance. I emailed all 5 schools that I hadn't heard from yet...just to find out if I was complete. Heard back from UMKC, Nebraska and Washburn immediately. I am complete at Nebrask and Washburn. UMKC said give them 90 days...that gives them a couple more weeks. Washburn said they sent their decisions letters today...guess that means should be seeing those by early next week. Nebraska said I should have an answer from them by the beginning of Feb. Didn't hear anything back from DU or IU...hopefully something later today. People have given me ideas to apply to a few more schools, but I think I did enough research in the beginning and did a great job of picking schools...now I am just going to sit back and let it flow...in the end when I have all the black and white from the schools I will make a decision and be happy with it! Hope cycle is going well for everyone else....

1-30-2007 -- Well I have to say at this point...if nothing else happens I am pretty satisfied with my situation. I am super happy about Washburn and UMKC and still really like Coastal. I plan to withdrawl from Tulsa and Weslyn to give those waiting for them to have a chance. What I have left:

Wyoming: probably
Nebraska: nope
Indiana: nope
UNLV: maybe...
Wake: no way
UNC: no way
Campbell: probably

I am going to hold out for a couple more weeks and wait to hear from Indiana and Nebraska. Then I am planning a visit to Washburn, UMKC and either of Indiana and Nebraska if I get into those.

BTW: UMKC $12,000 it is first year only. It is so that I can pay instate tuition for the first year without being an instate resident and then they will help you estbalish residency so the rest of the two years you can pay instate as well. That is the best I can explain and hope that helps.

Just an update -- I haven't seen a whole lot of movement in like 4 weeks. I am hoping the rest of the answers will come soon so that I can just make a decision and get on with this whole law school thing...I am getting so excited. I am very excited about my trip to visit Washburn and UMKC this weekend and I hoping it will help me decide at which one to put a seat deposit and which one to withdraw from so the rest of you still waiting to hear from them will have that spot. Right now I am going to go out on a limb and say that I am leaning towards Washburn and UMKC. I like the location and I think I would fit in well. I guess only time will tell. If you have any advice for my trip please let me know. Hope cycle is treating everyone well.

After the long process and several visits...I am goig to Washburn. If you are too hit me up and let's get together sometime this summer before classes start! Can't believe we are all going to law school!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi All! I am just starting the entire process. Getting ready to take the LSAT on June 12th, my last practice score was a 154...not sure where I will end up. In about a month we are driving cross country to visit 28 some law schools that I am interested in...then the application process starts. Any advice or insight anyone can provide I am open. Thanks!!!! Jenn

NC Schools
Tuesday, May 23 2006 at 08:00 PM

Hey, I am applying to NC Central, UNC, Wake, and Campbell as well. We have similar index numbers, so I will be watching to see what happens with you. I just retook the LSAT in Sept, and am hoping for a good bump from that. It looks like your work experience will give you a good edge, so good luck. Wake is a great school and job prospects our probably second only to Duke in NC. Carolina is also great in that department, but there are more graduates, and most want to stay in the Triangle of NC, making this a competitive market. Central is by far the best bargain in the country, and is respected within the state. Why the interest in so many NC schools?

Great Profile

Best of luck this cycle, you should have some acceptances in the mail by January!

yea
Thursday, August 31 2006 at 08:00 PM

yeah i didnt know that...my diagnostics i was doing around a 150...so i know i could prolly only get into tier 4 schools with that...plus i wanna stay local...but i might apply to more..i retook the lsats on the 30th so when i get my score back im going to see where i should go from there

WVU
Wednesday, August 16 2006 at 08:00 PM

I have visited Morgantown and WVU when I was an undergrad. The campus is nice, the tuition is reasonable, and they have a solid background in Arbitration/Mediation. They have graduated lawyers who clerk for some of the big judges and top law firms. Even though they are 4th tier, I feel they have a strong/under rated program. Thanks on the FCSL and NCCU heads up. I might just send them an app. Once again, best of luck this cycle.

Thanks for the encouragement
Monday, June 19 2006 at 08:00 PM

It was nice to see some encouragement from you. I wish you the best of luck in this years cycle. Your profile looks sharp and you should hear back from schools early in the process. Personally, I think you have you will gain acceptance to the majority of the schools to which you applied. Hopefully I can raise my LSAT a little so I can feel a little more confident towards acceptance. Best of luck!

hey, congrats on 2 acceptances! WOW! im jealous!!! ur lucky.. i go to school in ottawa! i would rather be in a big city, with connections for job prospects.. also, i would like to live in east/west coast.. not too sure! they both seem like fun! haha.. i am thinking hard about FloCo.. just because of the intense sport law program.. although, i dont not want to get my hopes up until anything comes in.. i also was thinking about applying to denver (apparantly they have nice ski hills!) but, i didnt.. maybe i will tho.. lol

Campbell
Monday, November 13 2006 at 07:00 PM

They sent me a little white envelope and it said something about a prompt admissions decision.. they set up some new thing this year where some people don't have to interview....no idea how that happened to me...lol but good luck with your schools!!

hey about NCCU
Wednesday, June 28 2006 at 08:00 PM

They sent me a letter in the mail. I was surprised that it came so early. Well, good luck, sweets.

Good scope
Tuesday, June 27 2006 at 08:00 PM

Looks like you really hit all the marks with your apps. 2 in the bag so far! Best of luck to you, I know you'll end up in a great situation when it's all said and done.

Washburn
Sunday, December 24 2006 at 07:00 PM

Congratulations. I saw a few other acceptances from them on here within a few days of each other, so that's nice they're working again. Good luck on the rest. And if you get a spot from UMKC, you may gladly give it to me if I don't get in. Thanks in advance.

Just who do you
Sunday, December 24 2006 at 07:00 PM

think you are? My profile makes you laugh? That's some really touching, personal stuff, and you mock me. I see. Anyway, do you have a preferred school? I went to Tulsa for the first time the other day (not the school, just the city) and it seems pretty decent. I guess I'll just have to start traveling a lot to help make decisions. Wait, I need an ACCEPTANCE first. And by the way, a new ABA ruling just handed down (01-21-07--they work on Sundays) states that law school acceptances are like car warranties--transferrable. Anyway, rock on.

I haven't heard anything from Denver really. I sent them an email because I still hadn't heard if I was complete and they responded by saying I WAS complete but it would be a couple more weeks before I received by decision. I am from Colorado so...I like that one. What about you?

Without a doubt,
Sunday, December 24 2006 at 07:00 PM

UMKC. I think I mentioned it, but it's kind of a personal vendetta now. I interviewed there last year (it went really well) but was turned down for horseshit reasons. Plus, I love the area, and it's central to my family. Probably next would be Tulsa and Washburn. As for keeping it interesting, the idiocy just flows freely. Maybe lithium or something could squash that, but if I make at least myself chuckle, that's ok. If not, I'll just go arrest somebody for giggles. I'm all about violating civil rights, and I hope to study at a school that facilitates human and civil rights violations. Rock on.

right on

Saturday, May 20 2006 at 08:00 PM

Yeah I suspect so. I think the email I received from them was on last Wednesday and they told me to give them 2-3 weeks and I would have my decision so I am thinking probably by the end of the first week in February. That is when I am expecting to have a few more of my other schools too! I would love to have all my answers by the end of Feb...not sure if that is realistic though. I want to have a decision made and start looking for a place to live! It is so EXCITING! Good luck to you. Are you from Colorado. I can't get to your profile on here so I didn't know.

Rock on

One more down with KC. I hate you, by the way. I'm getting more and more nervous. Apparently, it didn't take the projected 90 days, huh?

It was a letter...to my parents house. I am not much interested in the part-time programs I feel like I have some great opportunities with the full time programs at other schools and would rather go with them than go part-time...so...but thanks for the advice...god knows we all need that during this process.

If I didn't mention it...
Sunday, December 24 2006 at 07:00 PM

Congrats on KC, and more importantly, I despise you. Well, mainly because of the waiting. If I get accepted, I will officially retract my letter of hatred, but for now it stands. ARRGGHHH!!!

Sunday, January 28 2007 at 07:00 PM

i am from CO, went to N. CO. i would be content at every school i applied to. if it doesn't work out, there's always my current job (banker) and next year. i'm hoping they will do what they advertise and look my applications as a whole. good luck to you.

Did you visit Appalachian?
Wednesday, January 03 2007 at 07:00 PM

I read a post on another person's page and I think you said you visited Grundy Va. I'd like to know more about it. Can you email me or post to my page?

thanks for info
Wednesday, January 03 2007 at 07:00 PM

You just saved me a week and a whole lot of money. I have been looking at the photos of Grudy, etc and thinking it could be a very refreshing three year retreat. I'm an older (much older) applicant and have had a 30 year career running on a hamster wheel... So Grundy is appealing. IF they gave me money; your comment really tells a lot. If they were to offer a full ride (highly unlikely) I think I'd have to go see for myself. Right now SIU is my first choice but if UALR and/or Ole Miss come through with acceptance I will definitely consider those. Most likely UALR because it is a state capital and I;m interested in health policy issues. Its all still up in the air. Thanks for taking the time to write. BEST OF LUCK in your decisions too.

I'm Lovin' it
Wednesday, January 03 2007 at 07:00 PM

Your generous information about these schools is greatly appreciated. I'll take whatever you have. UALR was fairly high on my list - but my first love is Ole Miss. I spoke with them early on and they were rather discouraging until I told them I was an "oldie" then they warmed up. They really like to accept MS residents. If I get in there it will be very hard to not go. I also like SIU and it is still a contender. Now that Appalachian has offered me a full tuition scholarship I feel like I really do need to consider it. Seeing that I am in the autumn of my worklife years I am not seeking a school that will offer me a shot at the big time. In fact, my hope is to be able to practice as a "generalist" in a small community. That is why Appalachian is attractive. I've been running on a hamster wheel for the past thirty years. Hard decisions. Any and all opinions are welcome. Good luck and congrats on your success so far.

Either / Or
Sunday, December 24 2006 at 07:00 PM

There's plenty to do in KC. I haven't gone there a lot, so just ask around. Topeka, I'm not sure but I think you might like the town. It seemed really clean to me, and I was impressed with how friendly the staff was. Let me know how it goes. I should be hearing from KC this week, so we'll see.

menk175 cannot follow directions.
Monday, December 11 2006 at 07:00 PM

IU-Indy is my #1 choice, unless I get accepted to either DU or ASU. I actually live in Phoenix right now, so ASU would more than likely slip into the lead. However, I don't have a great chance at either of those schools. Is it Washburn for you then?

Washburn
Monday, June 05 2006 at 08:00 PM

Washburn is closer to the bottom of my list. I don't think I am going to the admitted student day. Are you?

Top choices
Thursday, October 05 2006 at 08:00 PM

We have nearly identical numbers. What schools are at the top of your list right now?

No Idead
Thursday, October 05 2006 at 08:00 PM

I really have no idea right now. I wish all of the schools I applied to would hurry up and let me know. I feel like rest of my life is in limbo right now. Hopefully I will know within the next month, at least that's what I'm telling myself.

Well?
Sunday, December 24 2006 at 07:00 PM

#1) Your email answers come with light speed--JK:). #2) How were your visits? You will tell me. Oh yes, you will tell me.

Pretty much
Sunday, December 24 2006 at 07:00 PM

I'm pretty convinced it'll be WU, although I'm visiting Tulsa and OCU. They'll be incredibly more expensive, so cost and atmosphere are big bonuses at Washburn. I'm about 90% sure about that. My wife and I are visiting on the 27th. Good luck with your decision and keep me posted.

Re: Any idea
Monday, August 07 2006 at 08:00 PM

Michigan State looks like it will be home to me for the next 3 years. I really like the area and although it costs more than the others I think the benefits will outweigh the finances. I seriously considered Washburn, it is a good school in a capital city with a decent price, although my whole plan was to get out of Kansas and see other parts of the country.

congrats
Sunday, January 28 2007 at 07:00 PM

on Wyoming. They've taken forever on my app. How did you hear?

Actually
Sunday, December 24 2006 at 07:00 PM

I didn't visit WU this weekend. I was supposed to visit Tulsa, but I cancelled. I'd really like to go there, but it's likely not happening. I sent my seat deposit to Washburn, but thankfully it was only $100, and they don't require any more until semester starts. I'm visiting OCU on Thursday and Friday, but unless something REALLY magical happens, it'll be Washburn for Daddy. You any closer to solving your Washburn / UMKC / Other School conundrum? You know, you're supposed to keep me updated on all the exciting new happenings.

I, too, turned in my deposit for UMKC. All signs point to me going there unless Miami takes me off the waitlist. Then I would have to consider their offer. Hope all

Wyoming
Monday, August 07 2006 at 08:00 PM

I noticed you withdrew from Wyoming, why is this? I am still awaiting a reply (which has taken FOREVER), but have similar numbers as yourself and am still considering going there is they accept me

UNLV
Thursday, January 18 2007 at 07:00 PM

Curious, any contact from UNLV?

Re: Wyoming
Monday, August 07 2006 at 08:00 PM

My ultimate goal would be to practice law in Colorado and I felt that by attending Wyoming would give me a better opportunity to reach that goal. I was rejected by both Denver U and CU so I figred Wyoming was the next best shot. Washburn is looking like a good option right now, but still waiting back on their scholarship offer. Where do you want to practice?

That's great!!!
Sunday, December 24 2006 at 07:00 PM

I'm not going until next weekend to visit (again), but I"m excited since it's been three years since I've been there. Five years ago, I would have laughed if you told me I would be getting excited about Topeka, KS (ha ha). You are gonna get SO sick of me and a few other stupid friends that are going there. Muhahaha. Email me and let me know what you think so far, if anything.
