Visitor Comments
Holy Hell! I got a ton of fee waivers, but they were to crap schools...how'd you swing so many good fee waivers? Must be nice ....
well done sir...well done!
Is it really pretty there? I think I am going to visit over spring break. Congrats on your acceptance as well. Does it get really cold there? I am a born and raised Texan so I am not used to having actual seasons.
Thanks so much! The wait was pretty unbelievable... I don't think I have ever waited so long for something I wanted so much. I kind of don't know what to do with myself now -- but no more compulsive email checking!!! Congrats at GMU!
Hey Congrats at George Mason. Any $$? Keep up the good work.
That sounds good. I will let you know when I am going there. Probably March 8th. I figure if I throw 26 aps out there I will be able to get into some! How did you get fee waivers through every school? Did you do the LSDAS fee waiver ap? I have to say that it probably would have been a lot cheaper for me if I qualified for that!
Misery loves company. Glad I wasn't the only one who found their scholarship offer insulting. Not even tempted since Cleveland State (another Tier 3) offered me full in-state tuition. Right now, to be honest, the only schools that still have my interest are Oklahoma City University and Cleveland State. I visited OCU and loved it there and felt really comfy. I don't care how they're ranked. Comfort level makes a huge difference to me.
OCU said that for their joint JD/MBA program, we can be admitted to the business school based on our law school application and don't have to take the GMAT. That is a HUGE draw for me.
Let me know where you decide to go!
congrats to you too! Wouldn't that be awesome if we both went there?! I am definitely planning on visiting over spring break 8-17. Not sure when, but some time in there. Good luck!
Hey, good job. Of all the schools that I have been accepted to the package Indiana sent was the best. Expect a little surprise.
You are kicking some serious butt with this admissions cycle! Congratulations on all of your acceptances. I'm sure there will be lots more to come.
yeah.. I didn't see that one coming either I was convicted of a DUI 4 years ago- plus I had a couple of housing drinking incidents.. so maybe that's why so you just called schools and they granted you waivers.. damn, i wish i would have thought of that..
Curious, How much time inbetween acceptance letter and notice scholarship?
no, i'm out of state right now. if i do end up going to school down here, i'm going to try and get residency, but i don't think it's likely kentucky is where i'll end up.
Actually I didn't get any scholarship information either...the big surprise was the sticker. You didn't think that was pretty cool?!? Anyway I finished filling out my financial aid yesterday and the most schools FAFSA let me apply for were 6. Unfortunatly Indiana did not make my top 6. I think that I might withdraw from them in the next couple of days - you know create good karma. Well congrats on all the new acceptances, talk to ya later.
when did Dean Bakert figure they were going to know who got the scholarship?
do you know what the difference is between being waitlisted and deferred?
Hey that's good to know that I do more than six. I'll call you in the next couple of days to learn the magic. As for my current top 6 - University of Kentukcy UCONN UW - Madison George Washngton (I hope) William and Mary (I hope) and University of Minnesota - which you just told me rejected me...so thanks for the emotional boost. Actually, I think that I may still have a little bit of a shot...at least i'm still holding out.
hey, in your comments section it says that 'dean bakert will be reevaluating your scholship app" after the combs/ashland is announced. what does that mean exactly? did you request more money? how did you do that? thanks!
if you go to AU, we may have to look into getting an apartment or something!! congrats on your cycle so far...
hey congrats on OSU and on the fellowship. How did you find out about the UK money? Does this mean that you are no longer in the running for Combs/Ashland? What do you think you are going to do know? 12,000 is a lot of money.
now, not know
Not really sure man. I should hear from UK soon. I think I'll lean towards UK if I get in...otherwise it will definitely be AU. I just got back from UDayton, and their facility is AMAZING!!!
Does your UK scholarship require that you maintain a certain gpa or class percentage?
I would like to talk to you about what its like living in Lexington, but I don't want to fill up your comment board. Can we discuss it through email?
I'm not going to lie, I am really excited about Minnesota. When I first decided that I wanted to go to law school this was the school of my choice. After the LSAT I wasn't sure that I'd make it but I keep hoping. Looks like somewhere along the way I did something right. In answer to your qustion I did not write them a letter of continued interest. I sent a couple of emails and I planned a trip to visit the campus in April. I think this may have showed them how serious I was about wanting to get into their school. I'm excited. Make sure and let me know when you find out.
Just checking up on how all your aps are going! Have you narrowed down where you want to go yet? Hit me back some time on here or facebook! ~hailey : )
Sorry about GW. I guess I should be expecting my rejection pretty soon. At least they let you know straight out and didn't waitlist or anything.
I got re-deferred again...this shit is getting old.
Hey man sorry about the combs/ashland. Do you think that they will give you more money through another means? If not, what school becomes your new number 1? Talk to ya later
How much is Tenn. going to cost? Is it really going to be that much different moneywise than Kentucky? Is there any chance that you could land a scholarship from them? Sorry about all the questions. Just you know, wondering.
it's 10 grand a year to make it in state tuition. i don't think im going there though, its too far away!
UK is giving me in-state tuition close to withdrawing after I was deferred... definitely glad I didn't
Hey, just got a letter from UK stating that I am not going to be getting the Bert Combs. This is all fine as it makes my decision a lot easier. I'm withdrawning tonight. Speaking of which, way to start committing and pulling out of all those schools.
Good luck on your trip. Tell me how it goes.
Yeah, I'm almost certain I'll be going there. The cost is just too reasonable to turn down. Unless W&M come through and offer me admission soon, I'm pretty much Knoxville-bound. I'll be at the Law Preview Day at the end of the month. You going?
so whats the deal with this combs/ashland scholarship...i see they notified you and some other people that they weren't getting it, but i haven't gotten that yet - do you know who won these?
Hey, did UofL give you a date that they expected a confirmation from you regarding whether or not you would be attending???
ok thanks man....good luck
As of now IU is still my number one. Largely bc my boyfriend is from there and wants to move back there and all is family lives around there.... Also its a good school and not too urban or dirty hehe. So you are leaning towards Tennessee at this point? What if you got into Urbana, Emory, or Vandy? I think the only thing that might change my mind about IU at this point is if I got into Urbana, Arizona, or Wisconsin. I am actually going to visit IU campus this weekend. Good Luck!
which is why I would love to go to San Diego, Davis, or Santa Clara (gorgeous campuses, perfect weather, good schools, ocean) but tuition to those schools is ridiculous and living in California is out of this world expensive. Tenn sounds like they made you a pretty damn good offer. Congrats!
Congrats to you too on the scholarship, it is the same one that you have. I would think that good standing is just above a certain GPA, prob like 2.5 or something. I'm starting to consider UTK especially since it's looking like ND is a whitewash (its my first choice, I go here, and they havent e-mailed me yet). Does it have a solid SEC feel and are the girls gorgeous, because that's a huge selling point, haha? How nice is the campus and what was your impression of the place? Thanks for all the info man.
Dude, thanks so much for the info about the visit, your story has certainly pushed UTK to the top of my list so far pending the rest of my decisions. The leave your keys and computer around thing actually is a big deal to me since it's exactly the same here at ND, I leave my door open all day even when myself and my roommate aren't around, and I've never had a problem. It's something I've grown used to and certainly would like to continue experiencing. I'm from the NYC area though, I'd like to know how Knoxville stacks up in terms of the bar scene and the entertainment scene if you know at all from either your travels or from any of the stories the 1L told you. Also, did you visit Vanderbilt in Nashville while you were there? I was there over spring break and I loved it.
This makes the 3rd time I've been deferred....I'm about done w/ them >:O
I'm going to American!!
UK is the only school my family is ok with me moving to because i'll be able to live with my best friend. but i don't want to practice in KY and your review makes it seem like that's all you can do from there? is it really limited like that? that's why i don't want UNLV because i would have to stay in vegas... thanks for the info!
yeah i figured that was kinda the case but i plan on working my ass off so we'll see. i feel pretty comfortable with UK so far. i'm going to see it sometime in april (of course i'll already have to put my deposit down) because my sister just had her baby yesterday and now i can leave for a few days. i can't wait until i'm in your position...knowing what school i'm going to will certainly reduce some stress!
i live in an apartment and we're not supposed to stalk the mailman...but i do anyway! my heart sinks a little when its just the cable bill or something..haha. i won't mind your spelling if you don't mind my lack of capitalization and excessive use of ellipses!
I'll see you there in August. Can't wait for "Bar Review." ;-)
hey how did you hear from W & M? Way to go on Tenn
I wish that applied to me! If only I could find a husband within the next 6 months :) Just kidding--great job on all your acceptances, you certainly have so many viable options. Thanks for the advice though!
I'm just following your lead. Today, I was waitlisted at William and Mary. Hey congrats on UT's new ranking. They really jumped this last year.
if you were waitlisted and i haven't even heard anything yet i'm sure i didn't get into denver. good thing you had already decided to go somewhere else. i've heard really bad things about denver anyway. it looks like it'll be UK for me (i'm a flipflopper though so we'll see).
i don't know why it says logged user??
yeah i'm really working hard right now...damn these websites!
Hey man, I'll see you in Knoxville this fall. I loved it when I visited, and it's a hell of a deal, so I'm going to take it.
i didn't get a chance to call yesterday...let me know some times you would be free this week so i can pick your brain about kentucky
i just finished up my withdrawals...i'm holding out on boulder because i want to see what they'll say even though i'm not going to go there. temple and unlv will be notified after i either visit kentucky or feel like i have enough info about it to make an informed decision.
To answer your question, I'm not in-state at Tennessee. Scratch that, *was* not. I just withdrew from a bunch of schools. I got a big scholarship offer I couldn't pass on. Best of luck at TEN. Congrats on the full ride!
Not really- own a house here. Going back to school after 6 yrs in another career- I'm not looking at BigLaw, so $100,000 + in debt is really unatractive.
yeah i think i have it narrowed down to those two. i'm really not too thrilled at the thought of another 3 years at michigan state (went there for undergrad), but the full ride is really tempting. it hurts to think about turning down an opportunity in DC, but $180,000 is a LOT of debt. i know i want to end up in DC, but i'm not sure that much money for american is worth it. congrats on making your decision, though. tennessee is a great school, especially with your full ride!
On having your decision made! Yay Knoxville! I wish I could feel the comfort right now of knowing where I was going to be living and going to school for the next three years, but unfortunately I am playing the waiting game here. Indiana finally gave me somewhat of a scholarship, so thats good. Florida gave me money too, not sure how much yet though bc I don't know my UF ID to log in and see it! Its looking like Indiana, but if Wisconsin or Arizona come through here (or if FLA gives me a lot of $$), I might consider those. The waiting game for three months is starting to get to me though!
I have visited UT twice, actually. The UT Law building is nice and pretty new. It is all in one building so everything is really accessible. The students seem to be nice and the adminiastration helpful. Overall, it is a pretty nice and comfortable place. Have you visited it? And, is there anything specific you would like to know?
Hey paul, I am somewhat interested in UTK. I haven't visited, but I want to soon. My wife and I are moving back to stay with my dad in AL this summer. I am pretty much down to Samford and UTK. Let me know how things looked up there. Congrats on all the good news.
Thanks on the good wishes...I'll be attending UTK as long as Vandy doesn't accept me, which I honestly don't expect at this point in time. I'm in the process of writing my written acceptance to UTK right now, and will be sending it Express today as soon as it is finished.
IU-B just bumped me up to in-state tuition. Now I'm in a situation like you were before your sweet full ride at UT. Probably prefer to practice in Indy... should I take the money and stay?
Thanks for the tip on Innovative Realty- looked it up on the web. Like to hear about your experience, since it seems like FSBO, only on the MLS. Going to Bloomington Friday to check it out. I'll be 29 in a few days, so this is a second career for me. I grew up about 1 hr north of Indy, and want to be closer to the folks, especially since grandchildren could be in the offing. You're a great source of info on here.
Still can't believe you went to UTK over some of the schools you were accepted to. Best of luck there...I couldn't ever see myself being a Vol!
Enjoyed the visit and am really impressed with the facilities- which I suppose wouldn't be hard in comparison to UK. They had a Board of Visitors meeting and a CLE seminar at the same time, so met some alums. I hadn't been to B'ton in 10 years, but liked it. My wife is really psyched about moving. Spent the weekend looking around and visiting Brown Co. State Park. Have to decide whether to rent or buy.
Sooo. I am really considering taking a year off and trying again now. I am graduating undergrad in a few weeks and I just really don't feel ready to leave right now. If I wait another year, my boyfriend and I don't have to do long distance as long... Plus I plan on actually taking a class and keeping my LSAT up like it was in my practice tests. I can then take the LSAT two more times and get a job as an intern or something at a law firm here for a year... Right now my score + gpa is right at that fringe level to where if I had just a few more points I would be getting larger scholarship offers and more acceptances. I don't know. I have to decide by May 1
Tell me what you think....
I received my waitlist letter on a Saturday, and got a call the following Thursday to let me know I was accepted.
Congrats on your decision. Will you be withdrawing from any of the other schools?
Noticed where you said you had good news about being married at UT. Was just wondering what that might be? Thanks!
I was wondering if you know anything about on-campus housing @ uofL.
Tennessee, Visited, liked it, want more info. Give me a hollar. Thanks
Were you on hold at Iowa at any time?
Hey..saw that you decided to go to UTK and was wondering if you had any insight as to how the admissions process is ran. I applied in late October and have not heard back from them yet, I have called and my apps are complete...I am starting to think it might come down to a waitlist since it has taken so long...any truth to that? thanks,
Hello, just dropping by. I see that you are attending U of T. How is the school for someone wishing to study international law, perhaps not leaning to business-side, but more on public int'l law? i really have no clue.. :)
I was wondering if u had any advice on getting in to UT? If you do and care to share them feel free to send me an email. thank you
Hey man, what happened to all of your information, and comments. you ok.
