So glad there is someone else out there with more than 30 apps. gl with this cycle!
You'll get into some of your schools. No worries. I am a 1L at the Univ. of Idaho. There are quite a few UW grads here. You'd fit right in.
Hey thanks. It will be nice to go to Idaho and it's close from WA. I wonder if many Idaho grads who went to UW for undergrad come back to Seattle to practice. That's what I would wanna do.
WOW...i thought I applied to a lot fo schools! Good luck with that! As an asian immigrant myself, I know what it's like having to compete with so many well-qualified applicants for spots in law school. I'm hoping my soft factors can get me into some decent tier one schools. What's your number 1 choice? UW?
for the advice. i don't think i wanna go anywhere else, even if they were to accept me. if i don't get in anywhere this cycle, i think i'll just find something else to do.
this is my 2nd go around...and i had similar numbers to you prior to the dec lsat. check out my old lsan profile @ "whoneedsanaba".
Thanks... Hope you get in!
You're bound 2 get in at 1 of your choices. I'm rooting 4 u. Keep us posted.

It seems to me that we are almost an identical law school candidate. I applied to any of the same law school that you have. Hope that we both get into some good ones. I am retaking the LSAT in Feb and told my top schools to hold my app. If I dont get into a really good school, I would love to go to Seattle U or Lewis and Clark. Keep me updated!
We do have a lot in common. I, too, have interesting soft factors, am a graduate of your rival school and am applying to a lot of schools. Given the proximity of the U of Idaho to Washington I bet they have a lot of grads that pass the bar in WA. If you practice in Eastern WA you almost have to be admitted in Idaho. We will get accepted and go to law school in '08. I'll keep watching your progress. Best wishes.
Congrats on Tulsa sounds like a great option of you want to live in OK.
I have some similar soft factors as yourself-Asian immigrant, first in family to attend college. I hope you get good news from Santa Clara, it's my dream school.
thanks for the sympathy on miami... i still have yet to get accepted anywhere... this is going to be tough.
That's great that you have been accepted to several schools. I'm wishing you the best. BTW, I would choose Southwestern over Chapman. I took my LSAT there and the law school is so nice. Plus grads at SW make more money and have more opportunity for jobs...anyways, let me know when you hear from Santa Clara. I'll cross my fingers for both of us!
Yes, even if we do not attend they will pay for our trip to Jacksonville. I figured out I could fly, stay three days, and have a rental car for under the $500...and that includes me living all the way in Oregon. I also think Loyola Chicago waitlisted EVERYONE this cycle. Good Luck!!!
Wow, that takes a lot of effort. I have some similiar schools with you, and similar scores. I am asian too, but I didn't focus my essay on my race, I hope that didn't ding me too much, I am curious to know how your soft factors helped, keep us updated with you posts! Again, best of luck
How long did it take Toledo to request your report from LSAC after you applied? Usually it happens in a day or so but they haven't requested yet. Gonzaga requested mine but LSAC never go the request to Gonzaga requested again after I rattled their cage. Wondering if the same might be true for Toledo. I got my first "deferral" from Akron. A bit disheartened but I decided to throw in OK City just as an additional safety. What's another $72. Right?
I am just hoping to get an acceptance someplace... I am feeling like a loser when I look at all of those high LSAT scores. I actually took the test again in the Fall and then thought I blew it and cancelled the score. I'm so glad that you are having some positive results. Keep in touch.
Same as you :)
I am rooting for you! I have similar numbers and I also applied to some of your schools.
Congrats on Willamette. I'm really hoping for a positive response from them!!
According to the head of my department at my University, Willamette is more progressive than Gonzaga. Has modernized their programs and approach, apparently. A choice between the two would be hard for me to make, and would be more about proximity to family and familiarity, etc. Gonzaga is Catholic (which I'm ok with - being a Catholic school kid I can handle it), but probably more conservative on some levels. Spokane is cheaper to live in. Salem is more diverse. My family lives closer to Salem than to Spokane which could be either good or bad, depending on how you view it. Right no I'm leaning toward Southern Illinois.
You asked what would happen to make me not take the SIU offer... $$$$ would make a big difference. Also getting accepted at Washington & Lee especially or one of the other higher tier schools would cause me to take pause. Got in at Tulsa today but no mention of $. I notice that people with lower index's than mine get $, I wonder if its my age. Maybe they think that as a "mature" student I can afford it more - not true by the way!! At least no outright rejections yet - but some are certainly expected. I would also have to really consider the PT program at L&C if I get in - just because my employer doesn't want me to leave and would allow me to work part time with a very good salary and attend law school. At least I ahve to consider that. Keep me updated on what is going on with you!! At least we are getting lots of choices. I noticed you got into Idaho, you should seriously consider that one. I now a 3L there and he is extremely pleased with the program, costs, etc.
I wish there had been mail today!! I live for that. :) Like you, I applied to this myriad of schools out of fear that I wouldn't get into any. So far Akron is my only deferral. We must both have pretty good "soft" factors. I'll keep an eye on you and you do the same. I have a good friend who may be a 1L at Seattle in the fall if he gets off of his *** and gets his application in. Time is fast ticking.
I see you got more acceptances, They must've really been impressed with your P.S. Good luck on the rest of the cycle
I'm so sorry about Seattle, I know that was what you were hoping for. You have Willamette as a fall back and its a good school and still in the region. Sounds like you are doing ok.... :)
I don't know why it's taking so long to hear from California schools. It's not so much that it's nerve wracking but annoying. I just want to know and move on with my life already. So where do you think you're attending?
First, Congrats on all of your acceptances! You asked if I would choose Gonzaga even if Willamette accepts me. I'm pretty sure the only way I would choose Willamette is if they offered me a bunch of money and I seriously doubt that's going to happen. I like Spokane a lot better than Salem, plus I would like to stay in Washingon where my wife is a licensed hygienist. I'm still waiting to hear from SU, and I have a tour of Gonzaga set up for March 16. I'll let you know how that goes.
I am having the same issue with Willamette. I have a really good friend that is attending there next year and wants me to go with her. However, I am having trouble with making that decision.... I liked Willamette a lot when I visited and I think that I would choose it over Gonzaga. I know that I have narrowed my choices down to Willamette, U of O, and Dayton.... I am so confused. Any thoughts?
It's a tough decision... I'll be glad when it's all over. Good luck to you!
good luck with the rest of your applications. we have similar numbers and lots of extras. happy you got in syracuse, one of my top choices also. What is your top choice?
Hi, you've been quiet lately. I got a deferral at Lewis & Clark so actually think I'm going to take the Appalachian offer and have an adventure. I wish I'd hear from Willamette. That is one that I will very seriously consider since I'll be able to stay in the Northwest. Looks like it is coming out on top for you.
Hi, Actually Appalachian got ABA approval almost a year ago. I was intrigued by the school before getting the scholarship. I like their mission. I also think they have a fabulous faculty. If you put the credentials of their faculty up against several higher=rated schools, Appy wins. I am older (very old - in my 50s) and this will be my second career. I want to enter into general practice in a smaller town (I've done the big city thing) and I think that Appalachian, with its high value on community building is a good choice for me. Willamette is appealing because of the proximity, but I don't want to pay the price at my stage in life. We'll see.
I have a very dear friend who graduated from Willamette in '04. She was a non-traditional student also. She's doing fine, she decided to solo practice in Salem and she's doing quite a bit of public defender work and very happy. I know several Willamette Law grads and they are doing well. I think 65K is a reasonable expectation. If you want to go into Environmental Law or Animal Law then L&C would be a better bet. U of O is larger and you'd get less personal support with much stiffer competition. My friend is a "mentor" for 1L's at Willamette and they have a very active and supportive alumni. She is one of the reasons I'd like to go to Willamette, but the cost is certainly important at this stage in my life. Keep me posted.
i was a bit shocked myself as well. i thought i'd have no chance at a bottom- tier one school, let alone a t25 school. im really content at this point. i hear idaho's pretty difficult to get into, and the fact that you were admitted speaks volumes about your ability to succeed in law school. good luck with the rest of this cycle!
Nice job on toledo. That looks to be where I am going to end up next year. You have any favs right now? I visited toledo and liked it if you have any questions as well
Thanks for the follow up. I was really shocked at the WU waitlist. My personal statement included information about my relationship with someone who, in the not too distant past, was very highly placed politically in Oregon. Salem being the state capital, it never occurred to me that people would consider that association as being anything other than what it was (not political) - wonder if that wasn't looked upon favorably. Or..... there were just a whole lot of people ahead of me with better overall numbers and qualities. I can handle it. Now everything (almost) is back on the table. I am back at seriously considering SIU and going to take an end run at the PT program at Lewis and Clark again (deferred) because I just might try that for one semester and work part time. Lewis and Clark basically says that it is pretty easy to move into full time once you are in the part time program. The fallback is still Appalachian. I am going to fly back there in May and see for myself... Stress.....
Of Willamette and SLU, I have no idea. SLU has the program I want to go into (health law) but Willamette is obviously much closer to home. I guess this is why I'm pushing for SU or even UHawaii (hidden app) to accept me.
I guess I prefer the west coast or Hawaii, but if I have to practice in St. Louis, I wouldn't mind that too much either. Hopefully, I'll figure out where to go very soon.
How did you afford to apply to 40 schools? Anyway, there is an attorney at out firm from St. Mary's who just won a huge case...his take-home is 1.4 million. The law school also has a great rep in the area, better than Willamette, which is in-state too...go figure? I'd take St. Mary's
Not sure yet where I might end up, do you know where you might end up?
Sorry about Santa Clara. That's tough...I'm waiting for my rejection letter as well. Sigh...I hope I get into at least Southwestern. I still haven't heard from California Western. Do you know if they are better than Southwestern?
I chose UO over UW because I can stay in Oregon...all my family is here, and my girlfriend's family is here too...I almost considered splitting up with her for UW (don't tell her that)j/k...Best of Luck...Gonzaga has a great program...A buddy of mine went there, kicked a porcupine and spent the next 2 days painfully picking quils out of his foot...How he got into the program...I have no idea...The LSAT just doesn't test for things like that...but he has learned tons there aside from that. Best of luck.
I'm considering that school too, have you visited yet? Any thoughts you want to share about that school? Thx
The full scholarship requires being in the top 20% of the class and I'm really not worried about that. My undergrad GPA in history and Political Science was a 4.0. If you fall below the 20% mark then the scholarship graduates down. Top 30% its a 75% scholarship and top 40% its 50%. Not bad. How are you handling things? I'm going back to Grundy in May. I also paid a seat deposit at SIU just in case I hate it at Appy. I'm still holding out for the Lewis & Clark deferral decision (wrote them a letter). At least now I know I'll be in one of those three places in august.
We have corresponded quite a bit and I have to say that I worry that your obsession with law school tiers/rank seems to be hurting you in the long run. I have several friends who are attorneys. Most graduated from mid-level schools (the "richest" graduated from Gonzaga and has more $ than he can spend)... The advice I've gotten from ALL of them is that you all have to pass the same bar exam and that once you have done that, few people really care. Unless you go to a Tier 1 school and plan to practice in one of the MAJOR legal cities (NY, CHICAGO, LA, ETC.) where you went to school just doesn't matter. My mom's attorney graduated from Notre Dame and he's dumb as a doornail and has a shabby office in a strip mall. Go figure. I think it is better to select a school that provides a program that is congruant with your personal goals and values, has full ABA accreditation, and is an area you want to live in for at least 3 years. I don't mean to be harsh, but honestly, reconsidering Willlamette, which is a fine school with great faculty and a good program, because of a commercial publication (US News) is sort of like "kicking a porcipine while barefooted," Just my 2 cents worth,
I am thrilled for you and happy to hear your obsession has ended. You are going to be amazing@@@@ :)
have you withdrawn from chapman?
i see you have gathered a lot of info on the schools you were considering. what is your best advice on gathering information on attrition rates from year to year, class grade distributions, degree portability, etc. I also applied to a ton of schools with slim chances - so i know how getting a long string of dings feels. congrats on your acceptances
I am not sure between the two - I would really like to stay in california becuase of portability, standard of living etc. But the market in Chicago is very appealing as well as the situational change it would provide. Gonzaga scholarship is more and easier to maintain, however. So I am struggling with my options, put deposits at both
How was your visit to Willamette?
Hey look at the bright side. At least you got waitlisted to Southwestern. I got an outright rejection. And it still stings. Now it looks like I'll be going to a T4 school and trying to transfer instead. I heard that being on the waitlist on SW is almost as good as getting in, so I don't think you wasted your money. I took my LSAT there and their facility is nice. Although the area kind of sucks. Anyways, we have a lot of the same schools left to yet hear from. I'll cross my fingers for us both!
Hope to see you at Willamette!
Who is this willametterules mental case? Anyways, I got waitlisted at Santa Clara. It's not an acceptance, but with my LSAT score, it's still a miracle. Cross your fingers for me! And congrats on deciding on Willamette. I'm sure you will do great over there.
Have you withdrawn?
Congrats on Chapman! Did they offer you PT or FT? Also, did you send a letter of continued interest? I'm still on the waitlist and it's driving me crazy! Thanks for any info you can share. :)
Hope you have a successful cycle. I will enjoy following your progress and success. Hope you have a happy holidays.
