Extra Curricular Information

I like pugs. A lot. Much in the same way Mitch Hedberg felt about koalas:

"My apartment is infested with koala bears. It's the cutest infestation ever. Way better than cockroaches. When I turn on the light, a bunch of koala bears scatter, but I don't want them too. I'm like, "Hey... Hold on fellows... Let me hold one of you, and feed you a leaf." Koala bears are so cute, why do they have to be so far away from me. We need to ship a few over, so I can hold one, and pat it on its head."

Hence, pugattack.

Additional info & updates

I am the queen of waitlists.

5/3 - sent in my deposit to USC.

5/6 - withdrew from Hastings. This was a really hard decision as I liked Hastings a lot, but just fell in love with USC when I visited. My heart hurts.

5/7 - twiddling thumbs wishing I'd hear from one of my waitlists...

5/13 - Holy crap in at UCLA off the WL!!!! Phone call in the afternoon...on a Sunday..and mother's day, no less.

5/19 - withdrew from GULC and UVA waitlists. Now I am only on 3.

5/30 - withdrew from USC. It's hard saying no to them, because they sure do a great job of making you feel welcome, but UCLA was just a better fit for me.

6/16 still hoping to maybe hear from another watlist *ahem- Boalt- ahem*

6/22 - OMG! Got off the Boalt waitlist today!! I am so happy!! This was my first choice all along - thank you Ed Tom!!!

Hey gotta love big public schools in california. i hope we both get in somewhere good! where are your backups? Just hastings and sc? i'm trying to get together some backup options . so far, davis, hastings, and gw is ucla technically backup, since we have about a 60% chance of acceptance? hmm.. would help me to sleep easier at night, that's for sure.

i never received a complete e-mail, just a phone call (and supposedly a letter is coming in about a week). i hope you get a call soon!

no problem

sorry ab gtown :( i know a couple of people who got WL'd; sucks! where i go will be contingent on how the rest of the cycle pans out...still waiting on some more (ok, 11) apps. my gpa/lsat were at least at the medians for the schools that i've heard back from. p.s. your gpa is pretty hawt. g.luck!

sorry about georgetown
Friday, November 03 2006 at 07:00 PM

I'm sure you'll hear good news from UCLA and Berkeley soon. You have an awesome GPA!!! (and California schools really like that). Good luck this cycle!

sorry...
Saturday, September 16 2006 at 08:00 PM

about the deferral-I would've expected you to get in at Georgetown. But as the person above me said, UCs

don't know what happened there, but I was saying that UCs love high GPAs so I'm sure things will be getting better soon :)

NYU
Sunday, October 01 2006 at 08:00 PM

How did NYU contact you to confirm completion? I submitted over a month ago and then called them 2 weeks ago. They said I was on file, but they could not confirm my status. The conversation basically ended with a snippy "we'll be in touch" statement. By the way...I wish you the best of luck on your aiming high. I'm doing the same myself (only my numbers are not as good as yours). Gotta shoot for the top and hope they see through the numbers.

On aiming high...
Friday, May 12 2006 at 08:00 PM

I did -- and my numbers should look familiar to you -- and have been totally, completly, pleasantly surprised by the results to date. (Okay, just two schools, but still.) So you don't apologize for ambition, and best of luck.

choices, etc.
Friday, May 12 2006 at 08:00 PM

Hi, and thanks for the kind words. I know that law schools are falling all over themselves to explain that they're kinder, gentler law schools than they used to be, but I didn't expect even the application process to be quite so social. Thanks, internets. Choices? Good question. There are a lot of great schools on my list. I've already been accepted to two more of them than I truly expected to be. (I mean, I thought I had a *chance* at UM and Boalt, which is why I applied, but I certainly didn't *expect* acceptance at either place, especially not by now.) My girlfriend's family is all in Michigan, which weighs in heavily in favor of Michigan. One could do worse. Really, I have a lot more applications that I spent a lot of time and money preparing, so I'm going to give it through the spring and see what happens. And you? Preferences?

Gtown, cont.
Saturday, September 16 2006 at 08:00 PM

I didn't write any additional documents/addenda for Georgetown. Don't be afraid to aim high-you have good numbers and you'll get in somewhere great

michigan...
Saturday, October 28 2006 at 08:00 PM

i think that i submitted the app in late october, like around the 25th or so. i was really surprised to hear from them so soon. Don't worry, we're numbers twins and I'm sure that duke is going to pull through fast. Durham is wonderful.

gtown
Saturday, October 28 2006 at 08:00 PM

i really believe that they read statements, but I also think that they're really into the lsat scores. Clearly, numbers are important, but what really makes my application strong are my soft factors. That said, not sure about gtown. The letter was sent yesterday and I'm betting it's not in the sexy beige envelope...

Don't Despair
Sunday, September 03 2006 at 08:00 PM

Hey...don't despair about Gtown...you don't really wanna go there anyway : ) I'd say some acceptances are in your near future.

a holiday wish...
Saturday, October 28 2006 at 08:00 PM

just wanted to let you know that i'm thinking of you and hoping that you hear from some wonderful schools this week!! Keep up the good spirits. Good things happen to good people. Happy holidays ;)

SC
Thursday, December 07 2006 at 07:00 PM

I got a letter and then a packet from SC. We are applying to a lot of the same schools, good luck with your cycle.

Re: starting to panic
Saturday, January 21 2006 at 07:00 PM

I'm sure its very nervewracking to not have heard but I'm sure with your stats you will get good news eventually. If its really bugging you its not to late to send off an extra safety app.

i'm keeping fingers crossed for you. I'm sure that the news is in the mail. Until then, we're trying to send some positive energy to the application gods that be. Take a deep breath!

Congrats on USC
Saturday, January 21 2006 at 07:00 PM

Congratulations! What a well deserved acceptance. I hope there are many more in your future and that they come faster than this first one!

congrats!

Pugs
Wednesday, November 15 2006 at 07:00 PM

How could a dog owner not own a pug? My little boy is 31 pounds. Nuts, no?

Okay
Wednesday, November 15 2006 at 07:00 PM

Buy a pug and we'll meet for a playdate.

Knowledge
Wednesday, November 15 2006 at 07:00 PM

Rugercaptain's page. The first thing I'm doing when I get to wherever is buying my own pug (I've never owned my own...always my parents'). I will probably just study a little more at home so he's not alone. They do need a lot of attention, but really they sleep ALL DAY! Seriously, on the weekend, if you stay home all day, the pug will sleep for at least 6 hours of it. Lazy. Like Lions.

Pugs!
Wednesday, August 30 2006 at 08:00 PM

As a fellow pug-lover and owner I hope you find a way to keep one during school. They do tend to need lots of attention though. My S.O. and I just got another pug puppy so our first has company and play time while we're at work. A quick question: Have you ever seen a pug with long hair? Congrats on USC, and I hope Boalt gives us both some good news soon! Good luck with your cycle.

re: Pugs!
Wednesday, August 30 2006 at 08:00 PM

Breeders are preferable, though you should watch out for puppy mills. Try to always see what conditions the puppies were living in and their parents if possible. We found a breeder through our vet. If you happen to live in Southern California I can fwd the number for a couple of reputable breeders. One of our pugs has long, black hair. Our vet said the long hair happens in about 1 in 10,000. He's actually very cute.

Chicago redux
Friday, May 12 2006 at 08:00 PM

Yeah, they sent me a snail-mail acceptance packet with a print accept/withdraw form in it, so hopefully that one will really work. I went ahead and emailed them as soon as I found out, though, to attempt to withdraw again, and I think that actually worked this time (at least, they sure sounded a little sheepish). I mean, its just sort of funny from my perspective, but they do have 5,000 other applicants who Im sure really, really do want to go there, so I thought I would make another effort to try to get out of their way, and maybe let one of those fine people in in my stead. So if you get accepted soon, its clearly all my doing. :-)

Pugs
Sunday, February 11 2007 at 07:00 PM

Pugs are awesome. Mine is a silver fawn named Max. He's 8 months old, and surprisingly flatulent for such a small animal...

Friday, May 12 2006 at 08:00 PM

Hey, glad to help. I figure it's a practical process, not a "gee, where else can I get in?" beauty pageant, so I may as well withdrawn now and open up one more spot for someone else.

decisions
Wednesday, June 28 2006 at 08:00 PM

Right now I think it's between Cornell and GW for me. If I get into one of the schools where I'm still pending, I probably would bump them up too, but I'm not holding out much hope. What's your top choice at this point?

Berkeley
Wednesday, June 28 2006 at 08:00 PM

I was also supposed to hear from them by 2/23, and I haven't received any news. It's driving me crazy.

Go Trojans
Sunday, January 28 2007 at 07:00 PM

Congratulations about USC. I am a huge Trojan fan and have been since I was very young. However, that's the very reason why I am not applying for it. My parents had me when they were graduate students at SC, I also graduated from undergraduate at SC. Alot of people have a different take on it than I do, but I think it would be a better idea to go to a different school than my undergrad. Fight on for sure!....Good luck on your apps.

Choices
Saturday, January 21 2006 at 07:00 PM

I'm still leaning toward Northwestern b/c I think I want to be in a city. But G-Town and GW are tempting because I love DC. I'm just worried about the size of the schools. I think I would be happier at a small school.

USC
Sunday, September 17 2006 at 08:00 PM

I'd say there's about a 50/50 chance I end up going there, but it also depends how much I like the school when I go out to visit. Sorry about all the waitlists! Are you staying on all of them?

hello
Saturday, October 28 2006 at 08:00 PM

hello friend! congrats on USC! They're skyrocketing through the rankings, and the upward trend looks to continue. And, money is always a nice warm welcome :)

USC ASW
Thursday, December 28 2006 at 07:00 PM

No, I won't be able to make it. I've already done the class visit/tour thing though, and have fairly good info about the school. How long are you going to stick it out on all of these waitlists/deferrals? Is SC starting to look better for you?

Decisions
Wednesday, September 07 2005 at 08:00 PM

Well, I'm wearing a UCLA hat right now....I guess that says something! I'm going out to Ithaca on Wed. to check out Cornell, though I think it will be coming down to either USC or UCLA, though I heard something about a scholarship from Hastings in an email from them today. So I still have to weigh all of that. What about yourself? Plus, are you planning on staying on WL's? Good luck with everything.

Friday, May 12 2006 at 08:00 PM

Thanks for the note. After visiting several schools in the last few weeks, I'd say that Michigan is my top choice for next fall. Unless Yale accepts me. So, like I said, it will likely be Michigan.

USC
Thursday, December 28 2006 at 07:00 PM

See the new update...maybe we'll be classmates next year?

USC?
Friday, November 17 2006 at 07:00 PM

Have you made any decisions? Will you be there on the 20th?

Wednesday, October 04 2006 at 08:00 PM

So, have you decided on USC over Hastings for sure yet?
