Well, now that I'm done, here's my 10 cents (HTH):

Re KENT- Just to note for ppl (prospective Kent students facing PT acceptances this late in the cycle):

They basically guarantee (without literally using the word "guarantee") that you will be able to transfer into FT after the first year but you'll have to make up the extra hrs (You have to take 5 or 6 hours over the summer after 1L and then after that, you're basically caught up with class hours, but for your 2nd year, there will be 3 "core classes" that you'll still need to take with the night section).

I don't think the one yr PT deal is a bad strategy at all. If you ANTICIPATED going FT and then got stuck with a smaller workload for the first year, well, that COULD be a great opportunity to boost your grades.

--Another note (although its too early to think about this): having only 11 hrs after the first year will make transferring to another school unrealistic.

I also knew of someone last year who was accepted into the PT division and a FT seat opened up for him before his first year even started.

Re: Chicago T2's in general:
Kent Loyola and DePaul are all pretty good schools -- I worked in the loop for 2 years, met several alumni, and became thoroughly acquainted with them in the process. I've gone through phases were I've been super-high on each one --- if anyone has any questions, fire away-- I think I've done my homework on em...

Nice username! And congrats on your acceptances thus far!

I have heard many wonderful things about the environmental law program at Vermont. In fact, I know of at least two people who went there specifically for that curriculum.

DePaul
Thursday, October 19 2006 at 08:00 PM

I keep seeing your name pop up with positive reviews of DePaul, it makes me real glad I'm heading out to see it for myself. Anyway, congrats on DePaul and good luck with the rest of the cycle.

DePaul

I'm waiting to hear back from Loyola (I'm there at undergrad now) but as of right now, I'm all about DePaul... And using my scholarships at other schools to get more $$$. Chicago is fabulous and I'm glad to be staying.

Congrats!

Thanks for your message! I visited Loyola but other than that I also don't know that much about it. Did you apply for all of those scholarships? Do you know if the Dean not saying anything about them, means no money?? Thanks again!

Congrats on Loyola.

What a fantastic name!!!!! By far the best one on this site.

Environmental Law
Monday, October 23 2006 at 08:00 PM

I want to be an environmental lawyer too, and I've been advised by everyone to just go to the best school I can get into instead of a school like Vermont that "specializes" in environmental law. Clients need, above all else, a good attorney. Go wherever you can get the best all-around legal education. Good luck to you in the admissions process! I hope you can get in to Kent, because their environmental law clinic is bad ass, and they are a good all-around school too.

Congrats on everything so far - about Miami - I know I said I was doubtful before, but the weather is SOOO appealing...lol... Would you at least go and visit if you got in?

Change of Mind

Hi again Bears...uh - I just got some money from U of Miami - so now the liklihood of me going there has GREATLY increased! If you don't make down to Admitted Students Day I'll tell you how it is!

my thoughts exactly

funny the effects those rejections and deferrals can have on you, even though thus far you've had a great cycle, much more acceptances and scholarships than dings. anyway, good luck with the rest.

DePaul
Tuesday, January 16 2007 at 07:00 PM

What do you know about DePaul. I'm really struggling with the idea of moving to Chicago. I'm from Alaska.

Uhh...
Tuesday, August 15 2006 at 08:00 PM

Thanks...I've been suprised this semester and just waiting to get all the decisions so that I can finally make a fully informed choice. GL with the rest of your cycle!!!

An attorney I work with went there and just graduated last year. She raves about it. They also place really well in Northern Nevada (Where I've lived for a few years and love) and pretty much the pacific northwest from what i've seen, especially considering the T1 schools in this area. Its costing me and my S/O 600 bucks for the trip but I really think its worth it. Plus the cost of living in Spokane is AMAZING, especially considering how much its going to suck living on loans. I think part of the reason its so appealing is all the alumni I've talked to LOVED it there, thats a pretty big deal.

It's a decent school on a nice campus in a very unique town. Placement wise it doesn't seem to do too well outside Oregon, though in state, and especially in the Eugene area, it is fairly dominant. Good for enviro law if that's your thing. I haven't done too much research, so that's about all I can say. Hope it helps, and good luck.

depaul

congrats on depaul. we have similar numbers and index scores. applied to alot fo them same schools, so i am discouraged and encouraged looking at your stats so far. Are you going to law days this weekend at depaul?

chicago

has anyone had problems with john marshalls admission counselors? they are rude.

Loyola Chicago
Sunday, March 04 2007 at 07:00 PM

Thanks! Loyola has been so amazing throughout the applications process, I really wish I could visit, they seem great. The dean said that I would need a 3.0 to keep it, and that 70% of the class gets a 3.0, so I think that is the best part of the deal! It looks like you have a lot of schools to choose from and a tough choice to make...good luck!!

I mean...
Sunday, March 04 2007 at 07:00 PM

Not that I wouldn't be in the top 10% of course.... ;)

Thanks for your comment on my page. If it's any consolation, I can't stand Eugene (have family there) and I think you'll be happy you didn't go there.

be happy

Congrats on all your acceptances. I would love to end up in Chicago too... What I don't like about Eugene is the atmosphere - I just think the city is kind of drab and depressing. Lots of empty parking lots with old tires piled up. But that's just me.

Loyola
Thursday, December 21 2006 at 07:00 PM

Hey there.. Just saw your post on someone's wall about Loyola and wanted to say I am planning on going there as well (and I passed up Minnesota and Wisconsin). I think Loyola is an amazing school with a great reputation in Chicago, and I absolutely LOVE this city. I work at a firm in Chicago now, and at least half of the attorneys went to Loyola and speak highly of it.

hey

I love both fields of law and holistic medicine. The medical doctors have made a lot medical mistakes with my dad, who has cancer. Moreover, I would like to go into malpractice.

Sweetness of the faculty and staff
Saturday, February 03 2007 at 07:00 PM

I concur with what you said about the faculty (and the staff). I got an email a couple of weeks ago from someone in admissions about a big panel discussion regarding finance, business and law being held at LUC. They're like: "you said you wanted to go into finance and business. We have this all-day panel about risk governance, etc. with a bunch of badass chairmen, executives and law partners. You in?" I know it was a minor gesture, but I thought it was amazing that they took the time to contact me, invite me, and swallow the registration cost. I learned more in one day at that panel than I had in the last 2 semesters of undergrad!

thanks for the help
Wednesday, January 10 2007 at 07:00 PM

i am waiting to get into kent and i like what you said above. thanks for the help. best of luck at loyola and maybe i will see you someday in the courtrooms of chicago. Best of luck.

how you heard from kent
Wednesday, January 10 2007 at 07:00 PM

Thanks Bears...I worked on their LGBT and police brutality report and some prelim research for their violence against native american women report...congrats and good luck on school!!!

Not sure if you check this anymore...
Monday, October 22 2007 at 08:00 PM
