Extra Curricular Information

Ok...I changed my mind. Again. I'm going to BC, for real this time. And I'm very excited. Oh how visits change things.

Will withdraw from BU and Hastings this week. Freaken non-refundable deposits...I'm too poor for decisions.

Additional info & updates

AMERICAN
1/24: OFFICIALLY GOING TO LAW SCHOOL!! Received a priority mail packet on my doorstep form American! My favorite safety school. HUGE relief to know that I don't have to move back home!

4/1. Withdrew from USF and American. Hope someone on the WL gets my spot!

NYU
1/30. It's pouring rain and I came home to a small letter from NYU. Bad news bears. Now even though I honestly know in my heart that I never really would have gone there, I still don't like it. Not one little bit. Not even at all. Fuck you NYU!!! RRRR The first one stings, doesn't it.

UC HASTINGS
2/14. Happy Valentine's Day! Thank you Hastings. A California choice...nice to see.

2/20. Dean's scholarship from Hastings with handwritten note about my personal statement. $15,000 over 3 years with priority consideration for other scholarships. Hooray. Money. That is exciting. And finally complete at Berkeley. I was started to wonder if they knew I existed. I just stalked the mail man for a half hour.

3/17. also, offered another 6K a year from hastings, don't know if i'm ready to accept 33K a year in loans. Hmmm, will see what happens if i get in anywhere else. i will be visiting hastings in a couple days.

GEORGETOWN
2/16. Just stumbled across someone's profile and discovered that Columbia and Georgetown have status checkers that they do not send you. SHOCKED to see that my Georgetown was at DECISION even though I never knew I was complete. A little part of me just died, I think. Alright small cream envelope...I'm ready for you.

2/18. Just tried to log on to Gtown's admitted students page and it didn't work. Crossing fingers that the first time I checked the status checker was the first time that it said decision.

2/22. Boo G-town...boo. Small white envelope.

HARVARD
2/22. Freaken finally Harvard...have that application for long enough? I need to start with that NeedAccess business. Will try to weed down options a bit as it costs $15/school, and 15 x 19 is more than I'd care to think about right now.

5/17. Rejected. Ouch. Not that I haven't wanted to go to HLS since I was in 4th grade or anything. Who'd have thought that the real world isn't like legally blonde? Oh well, with that the cycle is over and I am so excited about BC and finally being positive about where I'm going. Hooray!

MICHIGAN
2/22. Oh God Mich...Again...a little part of me just died.

2/28. Ok Michigan...can you please just send me the rejection letter today? I have a new mail man and he is SO slow. I was late for work today waiting for him. Yesterday he didn't come until 4:45! This is ridiculous. But really, I know it's coming and I'm prepared for it. Michigan is just so cold anyway, right?

3/2. Fun night last night, guys. I'm so happy that there are other people as weird and as obsessed as me!

3/3. Even though I knew this one was coming, it hurts most of all. Boo for sending personalized invitations to apply and getting my hopes up. Go Buckeyes.

PENNSYLVANIA
2/23. Ok, so apparently Penn wasn't complete when they told me before...Hmm.

4/16. Waitlisted at Penn via email. Another Ivy waitlist. Jeez! It's ok...I'm going to BU.

SANTA CLARA
2/26. Accepted to Santa Clara in a thin 8 1/2 x 11 white envelope. I'll be withdrawing soon because I know I'd rather go to Hastings than there. Also, my pattern has been accept, reject, accept, reject, so I don't like the fact that this is setting up a rejection from Michigan which I'll probably receive tomorrow or the next day. Eek.

VIRGINIA
3/14. And so it goes. Give it to me VA. I want your little letter. Withdrew from Santa Clara. Hope it helps someone.

3/17. WAITLIST! Hooray! Not another rejection from a top-10!! I'm sure I'll not end up going there, but this is super exciting for me. Woo! Now let's drink some green beer! Priority non-resident.

COLUMBIA
3/19. Columbia is very tricksey. I just checked my status checker today and it still said complete. However, I've been placed on the "first reserve"...whatever THAT means. Regardless, I'm ecstatic that, again, I did not get rejected from another top-10. WOO! I'll try and scrounge up some extra stuff to send them. I might be PBK (was nominated) and I might write a thesis next quarter, and I'd better get good grades this quarter. Sigh.

BERKELEY
3/19. Ok. This one hurts most of all. Stupid Berkeley on their little "we're CAL, not UC Berkeley" high horse. Poop on you. Went to my permanent address. My mom was like crying when she had to read it to me. So much for my good newsish law day. RRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

SAN FRANCISCO
3/23. Just got into USF via email. Will withdraw shortly, since I know I'd rather go to Hastings. But still, acceptances are ALWAYS appreciated.

3/28. Dean's scholarship from USF...$24000/year. Not bad. Came in a manilla envelope.

4/1. Withdrew from USF and American. Hope someone on the WL gets my spot!

BOSTON UNIVERSITY
3/28. In at Boston University by phone call...that I missed, even though I'm sitting right here by my phone. I finally get a phone call from someone, and I miss it. Boo.

4/3. Received large white envelope in the mail! With a personal note! So excited. I emailed about financial aid and will call if I don't get a response. I really want to go, but only if I'm getting money. If not, I really don't want to move across the country when I can go to school here. Plus, that's the only way to convince my bf who is now in love with SF.
Cross your fingers!

4/9. Ok, got a $20K scholarship a year. Want to go here SOOOO bad. Must convince the boyfriend. Oh my, I hate decisions like this.

YALE
3/31. Completely expected rejection from Yale. Oh well. However, I would have appreciated an actual signature and a letter that was longer than 5 sentences. Oh well, what can you expect. New Haven is a shithole anyway...so I hear.

CHICAGO
4/2. Rejected from Chicago....poop on you. But thanks for taking the time to actually sign the freaken letter (ahem, YALE)

STANFORD

5/11. Nope.

CORNELL

4/9. Waitlisted. Received letter today and status checker just changed today too. Well, I think the letter said reserve. Same thing as far as I'm concerned at the moment. Probably will not stay on, as I have enough decisions to worry about at the moment.

DUKE

4/30. Rejected. Don't care. Just nice to hear back, ahem, Stanford, Harvard.

UCLA

4/14. Another freaken waitlist!!

BOSTON COLLEGE

4/9. Admitted. Large white packet. Will call tomorrow about financial aid. If not a significant package I'll eliminate this option. But, thank you! I love acceptances!

4/21. $84,000 total. OUCH! Hmmm, will see if deposit deadline is flexible or not. People REALLY should tell you things in a more timely fashion.

4/28. Going to BC!!!!!!

Thank you. I just got so paranoid after the LSAT that I thought safety schools would be a good idea. We shall seeeeeeeeee...

yeah

i love me some fee waivers. good luck this cycle! keep me posted on how things are going.

Too Late
Friday, December 22 2006 at 07:00 PM

I moved out to CA as soon as I graduated....I live in Santa Barbara now. Not sure why you'd want to live in MI...have you ever been through an entire winter like that? It's brutal and depressing. I love being able to see the sun so many days out of the year! Best be ready for about 4 straight months of dreariness if you end up in MI. Good luck! And toss me a line if you have any MI Q's.

Dec. '06 games section
Friday, December 22 2006 at 07:00 PM

About that section....I actually got every question correct on the games, just went really smooth for me. But then again, I needed that to make up for my reading comp, haha.

SLO
Friday, December 22 2006 at 07:00 PM

Oh, you live in SB too? Nice! I actually lived in Shell Beach for the first year or so out here...just moved in with my girlfriend down in SB last Oct. The four of us should grab some drinks, and make each other either more relaxed or more nervous, haha.

You're going to be a JD!
Friday, December 22 2006 at 07:00 PM

Way to go! Nice to know it's definitely happening, I'll bet. Continued luck to ya.

Yea!!!!
Tuesday, December 12 2006 at 07:00 PM

I'm stoked for you. We should go out and celebrate for sure. Let me know how everything else goes.

Freakin
Friday, December 22 2006 at 07:00 PM

Yep, we're all getting drinks! I just need to get an acceptance....assuming that does happen, haha....that way we will all be future-JD's for sure. I hear ya on the freaking out...I'm usually a really sound sleeper, but I've been sleeping like crap! Also, I almost freaked out and applied to Southwestern yesterday, luckily I snapped out of it.

Speak of the Devil
Friday, December 22 2006 at 07:00 PM

It happened....I'm in at USD! Drinks for all of us, where do you guys want to go?

I try
Sunday, December 24 2006 at 07:00 PM

I feel I have a lot to offer in the way of truth, but it's yet to be found.

hi
Friday, December 08 2006 at 07:00 PM

hey, thats great that you got in to american. i'm sure you'll have much more success, so be sure to keep me posted! i'm still waiting to hear from the bigger name schools, but we'll see i guess. good luck!

Friday, May 12 2006 at 08:00 PM

Well, personally, I think Chicago is more persistent than any jilted lover that I, at least, have ever had but I see your point. I like that way of thinking, though: clearly, I should go ahead and withdraw from Harvard; that would be just what it takes to get them to come crawling back to me.

Way to go!
Tuesday, December 12 2006 at 07:00 PM

Congrats! Hastings is not a school to scoff at. I wish I could go next weekend but I'm going to Tahoe this weekend and I think that might just be too much. I hope the good news just keeps rolling in for ya.

suspense!
Friday, December 22 2006 at 07:00 PM

Yes, it's been killing me too! I see your drought ended the other day as well. I'm sure both of our mail people are happy to have some breathing room!

Friday, May 12 2006 at 08:00 PM

Hey, glad to help; if those numbers can be encouraging to you, then so much the better. As I recently discussed in likely nauseating detail on someone else's site (LSN ID: foolhardy), I do lack for most traditionally compelling soft factors, so I do like to think there is hope for the mid-160s common man. Or woman, as the case may be. To state the obvious: man, that's a lot of applications. If you really got fee waivers for all of them, though, then you spent about $1,000 less on the process than I did, so I can't really blame you. Hope one of them results in a pleasing acceptance for you.

Agreed
Saturday, January 13 2007 at 07:00 PM

Best of luck w/ Georgetown and with the rest of your cycle. With your stats I'm sure you'll end up someplace great!

good luck!!
Tuesday, December 12 2006 at 07:00 PM

eeeek! must be scary! i'm rooting for you! GOOD LUCK! btw, we applied on the same day. :)

re: GULC
Sunday, October 29 2006 at 07:00 PM

I'm not really sure . . . I did not ask for them to do so if that's what you mean. They've sent all other mailings (ASW invite, etc.) to my perm. address as well. Could it be because I was accepted around the holidays? HTH . . . good luck!

Status Checkers Are the Devil
Sunday, July 23 2006 at 08:00 PM

I feel your pain with the status checkers--I literally can't stop. I was on vacation in Puerto Rico last week and went into an Internet cafe every day to check them all. It's not healthy. After all this stress I hope we get into our status checker schools. Best of luck!

$$$
Thursday, October 19 2006 at 08:00 PM

yeah hastings let me know in the acceptance letter $7500 a year renewable. looks like you got some cash too, hell yeah!! you've got a lot of heavy hitters to hear from wso i'm sure you're still very undecided, but let me know if you choose a CA school. good luck!!

way to go on the scholey for Hastings... I hope to see the same! Time to seriously collaborate on drinks with climbingstars....just started new job....not sure I can wait til weekend....thursday? friday? what do you think? "We're really doing it Harry!" WE're going to be attorneys....that's nuts!

TONIGHT
Friday, December 22 2006 at 07:00 PM

Yah, who does Stanford think they are.....one the best law schools in the country?!? Ok, where should we meet tonight? It's on! Feel free to bring your bf, my gf will probably come.

Yes'm!
Friday, December 22 2006 at 07:00 PM

Climbingstars says she's free at 8, where should we go for our confab?

You betcha!
Friday, December 22 2006 at 07:00 PM

get used to hearing that if wind up in Michigan, or even the Midwest, haha. absolutely, it was a great time! We're definitely doing that again! Continued luck to you!

You don't need UofM
Friday, December 22 2006 at 07:00 PM

You don't want to be a wolverine anyhow! If you stay in Cali, or some other warm place, you'll be very happy that you didn't get in there...I assure you! You're still going to have plenty of good choices.

Mojave Admissions
Friday, December 22 2006 at 07:00 PM

It would appear I'm in a real dry spell here! The only thing that Ive got in the last week and a half is a rejection. I have found that work only provides minimal distraction from this crazy time!

condolences..
Friday, December 22 2006 at 07:00 PM

..appreciated, but I wasn't exactly holding my breath on any of those dings. I hear ya on deposits coming up soon....it's a decent amount of cash that each school is asking for....best case scenario we'll know where we want to go by then, but there's not much time! I'm still waiting to hear from Hastings.....I love SF, and the school is great, but even if I get in, not sure I would go unless they gave me some $$$, because USD would be cheaper tuition AND cheaper cost of living.....we shall see

thank you
Tuesday, February 13 2007 at 07:00 PM

i appreciate what you said. even though you applied late i have a hunch you will be surprised where you get into. watch out for u of m though, i am not a fan of the student body there. maybe all top 10 law student bodies are similar, but something bothers me about the pampered kids who do not have to work hard to do well. anyway, good luck.

hastings
Friday, December 22 2006 at 07:00 PM

What a bunch of silly bastards......looks like sunny SoCal is where I'll be!

Yeah
Wednesday, January 03 2007 at 07:00 PM

I think I know who you are. I only remember one girl that worked behind the desk there. At the moment I'm leaning Hastings as well, but I seem to be racking up the waitlists, so I guess I wont be entirely sure for a while. Good luck!

...
Wednesday, January 03 2007 at 07:00 PM

I had no shot at Berkeley with my low GPA anyhow, so it's no biggie to me. As for Hastings, I've been meaning to visit but I don't really see any tough decisions in my future (except maybe Hastings vs. ND) so I've been lazy about it. I also just found out that I'm eligible for $5,000/yr from the Hastings Grant (but so is everyone as far as I know) which is nice. How does Hastings compare with the Boston schools for you?

Turtle!!
Friday, December 22 2006 at 07:00 PM

Lukewarm on Hastings, eh? Well, hopefully after visiting you'll warm up to them, or some place else will steal your heart. Going to be a stress-filled 3 years, you want to feel comfortable wherever you are. Hastings was a shock, and I would call and show some interest, but I would prob only go if I could get some $$, cause USD gave me a good chunk. I'm feeling more sure all the time that I want to go to USD!

thanks...
Thursday, January 04 2007 at 07:00 PM

for the kind message. I'm really excited to attend law school this year. Congrats on your acceptances thus far, though I think you should have been accepted into some of the schools you were rejected from.

RE: BU Scholarship
Thursday, February 01 2007 at 07:00 PM

Hey, got the letter on the Dean's Award about 2 weeks after receiving acceptance package in the mail. Good luck.

thanks
Friday, September 08 2006 at 08:00 PM

It's kind of like winning the lottery, except I have to use the money for a specific purpose - which is what I would want to use it for, anyway. Good luck with the schools you're still waiting to hear from!

Thanks and congrats
Monday, May 01 2006 at 08:00 PM

on your acceptances! As a Bay Area resident, I'm slightly biased, but I do think that Hasting is a great school and that SF is one of the best cities in the world. Good luck!

Decision time
Friday, December 22 2006 at 07:00 PM

Well, I've put my "A" up on USD. Barring something extraordinary, that is where I will be next fall. I visited there the other weekend, and love it! The campus was gorgeous and the students and faculty were great. I'm happy to have my mind made up...very liberating, but also a little weird after all of this time spent on the LSAT and admission and waaaiiittttiiinnnggg. We should definitely get some drinks again soon, maybe this weekend sometime? We can try and hash out where you're at in the decision process, and what might change your mind, etc. Don't stress, you'll figure it out, and you have great options!

Congrats
Friday, September 08 2006 at 08:00 PM

on getting a great deal at BU, and more importantly, on making your decision! That's gotta feel good. Have fun this fall!

BU 2010
Sunday, April 08 2007 at 08:00 PM

hi! i too chose bu over bc! just sent in my deposit monday. its a great place and i hope to see you there next year

Re:BU
Sunday, April 08 2007 at 08:00 PM

Yeah I have, its really great. The building is ugly but it has amazing views. i liked how all the facilities are more accessible than BC (which is prettier but oh well). it was def a hard choiec but i think i am making the right one! congrats on the great money from them too

yep
Sunday, September 10 2006 at 08:00 PM

see you at BU in the fall - very excited!

eerie...
Tuesday, January 02 2007 at 07:00 PM

Yeah, we both have very similar cycles. I'm pretty sure I'll be going to BU in the fall (unless I miraculously get off a waitlist somewhere), but I'm still waiting for USC, so it's not official. BU 2010 woot.

BC
Monday, July 17 2006 at 08:00 PM

let me be the first to congratulate you on making the CORRECT choice ... YEAH BC!

Decision
Friday, December 22 2006 at 07:00 PM

Congrats on making your decision....feels good, eh?! You should really have fun. Everyone I know that has gone to a Boston school has enjoyed their time there. California will miss you...better bundle up, you are going to hate that first winter!
