Extra Curricular Information

Received various academic awards and fellowships.
Was in student government first year of college then worked after first year in various non profit agencies as an intern.
Parents have been retired since I was six years old.
I know I applied to alot of schools but I worked extra long hours to get the money and you can never have too many schools right?
I am also taking the Feb LSAT pretty sure I will bring lsat two or three points higher (only doing it cuz brooklyn sent me a note saying they would probably accept me if I did, damn them)

Additional info & updates

1-18-08- Got into the CLEO program accepted it and am going to the sunny location.

2/9/08-Found out that my application for Fordham was placed in second evaluation pile for further consideration later on. Not exactly waitlisted but will not know the decision till late march.

2/10/08-OMG I dont know if the rest of you feel this way but are some schools, how do I put this, stalking you. I think I've gotten 12 emails and three phone calls from hofstra repeatedly saying I got in. Then Florida Costal keeps on calling my cell phone and leaving me voicemails to apply to the schools not to mention emails. God damn its not like i dont appreciate the offers but their aggressive approach is scaring me.

2-22-08 Sad day for me. Got a rejection from Georgetown the only one that has hurt thus far. On to some semi brighter news got a 157 on my Feb LSAT.

3-5-08-Hmmm rejected from Penn and got a packet from Rutgers. Now that i think about it I suppose I only applied to a lot of top 14 to see if id get in but in actuality even if i get into, lets say UVA I dont think I would go, too far. Hmmmmm wat a waste of money.

3-10-08 Well I found out I got into the minority student program in Rutgers, which I heard is a great academic and netwoking tool. Hmm I've been thinking about this and I just wanted to say that i really admire those students that dont have normal or above par lsats or gpas because the admissions process is one humbling experience and i feel like those with low gpas and lsats that actually endure it have in many ways more motivation and dedication than those with a 4.0 and a 180. So for those struggling dont give up and kudos to you.

3-17-08-A cheap ass one page envelope from Villanova saying they accepted me. No details of financial aid.

3-22-08-Hey unlike cheap ass Villanova St. Louis sent me a really great packet with a pen and everything, yeiiiiiiiiiiiii. Also has scholarship money. Will I go? No, but its the thought that counts, lol. Still loving my Rutgers.

3-25-08- To be perfectly honest and because I created this page to help others next year in a similar situation I will tell you that having taken my lsat in Feb. has made this cycle very stressful. Most of the schools still pending received my applications in Nov. but because I took the lsat in Feb. they marked my application as complete in Feb. and they really havent reviewed or made any decisions. what does this mean? more torture waiting for answers, fewer spaces, less money. I still think I will be going to law school next year simply because I have worked too hard, spent too much money on applications and time filling out scholarship applications to not go next year. Yet I am sure if I did this cycle again and handed my application in Sept. I would get much more positive responses. But such is life and no matter where I go I will succeed. Hope this helps others.

3-28-08 omg got accepted into cornell but omg the money dear lord its $42,000 no aid and then 12,000 to live there. Its crazy because I went to Rutgers admit day and am pretty sure I can sucker more money out of them. I like the school but cornell is cornell ahhhhh dont know what to do.

3-29-08-Damn I cant believe Hastings rejected me from leop. Both of my other friends are going and they had similar scores of 3.5 and 151 but hey they had their apps completed by december and I had mine completed in March. Oh well such is life. Hope who ever goes enjoys it there.

4-02-08-yeiiiii money from villanova. I take back the mean things I said to them. Yeeiiiiii.

4-02-08-In response to lawstarr asking which law school I will be going to....It all really depends on the money the schools give me and since I still dont know the financial aid offers from all of the lawschools i therefore still can not honestly decide. Yet as weird as it might seem to many I am definantly leaning towards Rutgers and already gave them my deposit. Why? I figure if your gonna do amazing or have great grades your job prospective will be good regardless of which school you go to. You'll just have less debt. I put a post on lawschooldiscussion and they gave me alot of insight so go check it out, its about prestige or money for law schools and they talk about law students after law school.
http://www.lawschooldiscussion.org/prelaw/index.php/topic,103991.0.html

4-8-07- Umm got full tuition scholarships from St. Johns and University of Buffalo, didnt want to look up how much money that was so I did a rought estimation for both. Im assuming this doesnt include housing.

4-17-08 This has been a great week!!! I received a call from Cardoza informing me that I got in with a lot of money, yeiiiiiiiiiiiii! Yet more importantly I also finally got my financial award letter from Cornell and I was so happy with the financial award that I cried. I know alot of people questioned why I was considering Rutgers over Cornell but money was a serious issue because of my financial situation yet after I analyzed the award I will most definantly go to Cornell.
To the people that take their lsats in February or that dont have the highest lsat or gpa there is still hope if you have god and a lot of determination!!!!

Hey tweety63, Similar situation as you. Like you, most of my schools are out of my reach, but why not, I am only going to do this once. I applied at Marquette and S. Carolina and got admitted with basically the same numbers as you. I will be following your progress and wishing the best for you. When did you apply to all of your schools? Good luck to you!

some schools
Thursday, December 13 2007 at 07:00 PM

It looks like you are into the NY region.. why not New York law School and Stetson in FL. You have a LOT of SUPER reaches, but you do have some targets that you'll probably get into... Good Luck this cycle with all of your apps!!! You have my best wishes! :-D

Buenos Nachos Amibas.... Humm don't know if the Cleo program helps.. If it does then, it will be a pleasant surprise for both of us.. Wow interesting you're from Alaska and hispanic, what's the odds.. Guess that shows what I know about Alaska... About schools being out of your reach, don't worry about it.. Apply to 2 you know you you'll have a near certain chance of getting into, and apply beyond your reach.. Really when it comes down to it, what will it matter? You can have offers from many T3 and T4 schools you really wish not to go to in the first place. (my thinking) I can go to St. Mary' law school or Texas Tech.. Hummm I really don't want to go to either, but I will if I have to, multipying this decision by sheer vlume but equal quality of school, does me no real use.. Shoot for the T2 and T1's, that's my philosophy.. BTW are there any law schools in Alaska? I think one day I tried to search for one, and couldn't come up with any.. Well I'm rambling now.. So I guess what I'm trying to say is Good luck, and don't take a wooden nickles..

thanks

Same Numbers
Monday, January 07 2008 at 07:00 PM

Hey tweety63! Yeah, I noticed we have the same numbers too, and the same major! That's so crazy! Anyways, as far as the fee waivers, I honest have NO Idea how they decided who got them or not, but I used a lot of them, lol! Oh, I'm also applying to CLEO. I've heard that it does help in admissions decisions but we'll see... Good luck with your applications and let me know where you get in!

GOOD LUCK

WITH THE CYCLE! YOU DEFINITELY CAST A WIDE NET LIKE I DID! KEEP ME INFORMED!

Hey, again!
Monday, January 07 2008 at 07:00 PM

Yeah, Wash U is definitely a top choice, but I still want to see where else I can get in. Congrats on the CLEO program! $2,000 is a lot of money, would you have to pay all of it at once?

$$$$$
Tuesday, November 27 2007 at 07:00 PM

Hey, Thanks for your message. I was fortunate to get fee waivers from many schools. How did you finance your applications?

(i was accepted and completed it last year) and no regrets! its a great program but very hard and more like a summer bootcamp. if you have any specific questions pls feel free to email me and i will be glad to share my perspective. best of luck in your cycle!

Hey tweety63! Hope you're doing well. Thanks so much for your kind words! I really like Wash U, but I also hope I get in to Cornell, UT Austin, Univ. Illinois and Emory, so we'll see. I'm not sure if I've already asked you this, but what are your top choices?

Thanks!
Sunday, January 27 2008 at 07:00 PM

You too. :)

stalking schools
Sunday, November 25 2007 at 07:00 PM

I hear you on the schools that are stalking applicants. FL Coastal was one of them for me too. The emails are written in this really creepy way that usually spam messages are written. And yes, it's not like I don't appreciate being noticed, but please stop leaving messages on my voicemail and sending me emails. Someone told me it's because these schools are actively trying to recruit minorities, though I think they're just desperate for applicants.

Hey!
Monday, January 07 2008 at 07:00 PM

Thanks and same to you! I actually haven't where I'll end up going. I'm waiting for everything to be in before making a decision. I've already decided to withdraw from NYLS. A few people I know who go there told me enough stories about the lack of support available for students.

Thanks!!
Monday, January 07 2008 at 07:00 PM

Thank you so much for your kind words! I really appreciate it!

Yeah I applied pretty late in this cycle as I was really pre-occupied with the Master's and didn't really intend to attend next fall until the last minute. Right now I may just take a paralegal post at Weitz/Luxemberg and if I get into one of the schools I want, just defer admission if it all possible. Either way I'm definitely taking the lsat again in June with a lot more practice this time to see if I can bump the score up. Congrats on Villanova....one of my friends went there and was able to land a nice big-law job in NYC afterwards. Best of luck with your pending apps!

haha

LSAT
Tuesday, February 05 2008 at 07:00 PM

I actually did horrible the first two times 140 12/06 (did not study hard enough/ bombed the game section-I think I got 5/23) & 146 12/07 (horrible testing site-the room and desk were small and the proctor kept bumping my desk every time she walk up the rows and we sat so close together that when I was doing my reading comp section I could hear the girl next to me drawing all her diagrams, it was sooooo distracting. I changed my testing site in February and it was fabulous however, I still felt that I bombed the game section but was saved by the Arg sections. My average is a 147 but every school except Miami used my highest score. Miami said this is probably going to be the last year that they average.

Hey
Wednesday, January 30 2008 at 07:00 PM

Hey Tweety 63! There's a funny story behind that. SHU is my almer mater, and we have a sort of rivalry with Rutgers. And due to the fact that I only wanted to choose 1 skool in jersey as a safery, I chose SHU.

Congrats!
Monday, January 07 2008 at 07:00 PM

Congrats on SLU!

OMGosh!
Monday, January 07 2008 at 07:00 PM

Congrats on Cornell! Let me know if you decide to go to the ASD!

Rutgers Newark
Tuesday, February 12 2008 at 07:00 PM

Oh yeah? Tell me more. I visited a few weeks ago, and I really liked the school, I just wasn't thrilled with Newark itself. The school is one of my top three, there are aspects of all three I love. I am incredibly torn. Are you definitely attending there in the fall?

THANKS
Thursday, January 17 2008 at 07:00 PM

For your comments, encouragement and your post about lower LSAT scores. I'm always amazed by the fact that people with a 170 and gpa of 2.0 can actually get a good offer of admissions while those of us who do poorly on standardized tests but work our *&^#$%ssess off have to beg and plead to follow our dreams. Best of luck to you! Thanks for inspiring the rest of us!!

Congrats
Tuesday, February 05 2008 at 07:00 PM

Hey, Congratulations on your recent acceptances. I know you have a few pending but what is your top choice now? Which ever school it is, I hope that you get in!!

Hi
Wednesday, January 23 2008 at 07:00 PM

Hi, I'm amazed at how much Buffalo offered you. Can you tell me when they notified you of your scholarship offer and what's the name of the scholarship? Thanks and BTW congrats on Cornell. I see you're still pending at some schools but apart from Duke, Cornell is the seem the obvious choice. =)

Hey tweety63!
Monday, January 07 2008 at 07:00 PM

LSAT score
Tuesday, August 05 2008 at 08:00 PM

Hi tweety, I'm really curious about your profile because your LSAT score is probably considered low for some of the schools you were accepted into. I'm dying to get accepted into BC, but I scored a 156. I'm re-taking in December. Any advice/idea on what made them accept you, despite your score? Did you submit an addendum explaining it? Thanks!
