I'm thinking so, yeah. Being the only law school in New York's capital is something they have going for them at least, and I'm semi-interest in government at the moment. Is that where you're leaning, WUSTL and Emory notwithstanding? kht6330
CharlotteLaw Tuesday, March 13th, 2007 at 3:44 pm
Hi. Congrats on all the acceptances! It's nice to have choices, isn't it?

I'm a 1L at CharlotteLaw. Love it. Feel free to email me if you have any questions.

Fee Waivers Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007 at 12:02 pm
They will either e-mail you a letter telling you o consider their law school and inform you they have waived your fee or send a letter/packet snail mail with a letter stating your fee has been waived. Good luck this cycle. That is a massive improvement to your LSAT score, congrats. FutureLLP
EA Monday, October 29th, 2007 at 2:38 pm
I guess that's a little confusing. They don't have an official early application, I just sent my applications in so that they would be complete before November, and am taking advantage of the early application "advantage." eclectcism

UMN Friday, December 14th, 2007 at 1:03 pm
There's a strong chance I'll go to MN-- reciprocity, big city, good ranking, and close to home. But we'll just have to see where I get accepted. In all honesty, Cornell is my first choice but I might be tempted to go to UMN or W&M if the $$ is right. spaceinvaders

Congrats gmartz
Thanks Wednesday, December 19th, 2007 at 6:08 pm
for the congrats and same to you! Cornell is a slightly better school than UCLA, but I'm more interested in working in California than New York, so it makes it a lot closer. Plus, even with cost of living, UCLA is a good bit cheaper than Cornell. I'd be thrilled to be at either place and my remark was basically surprise at how well my cycle had gone in general. Best of luck! STLCardinals
re:UMN Wednesday, December 19th, 2007 at 10:18 pm
Yep. I liked UMN, but feel like the other schools have more of a national reputation. You've got some really good choices. Leaning anywhere? ortiz25
That's a good question... Thursday, December 20th, 2007 at 6:52 pm
Congrats on the scholarship to the UofMN, and to your other cycle successes. In all honesty, I'm leaning towards not re-taking the test. As you said, the UofM is a great school, and the TCs is a great community (something I know well from personal experience). How about you? Not to dissuade you from the UMN, but Cornell is "ranked" higher, and I hear Ithaca is a great community (though a bit difficult in the winter--not unlike the TCs). Judging by your LSAT score, you are far better situated than I in being able to hold out successfully for some of these higher ranked schools. Good luck with that! BigBama

and congrats to you as well! I am thrilled with my cycle so far and there's still some potential for it to get better, so I can't complain one little bit. I'm sorry about Penn - I'm sure you've got good news to come.

Tell you what - if I sweep the last five, I'll personally bring the broom to your place and sweep the porch (assuming the cold day in hell doesn't impede travel). You're already in great shape and I'm sure even better things are to come! STLCardinals

cornell Thursday, January 10th, 2008 at 5:49 pm
Cornell is my first choice b/c its an Ivy League school, pure and simple. The amount of prestige added to my degree would be substantial and I could easily take my degree to any big city I wanted to. The only other Ivy League schools are "out of my league" so to speak. I'm also a big fan of New York (state). What was your GPA if you don't mind me asking. Looks like our LSAT scores are both in the upper 1/4th. spaceinvaders

Re: Deaf in One Ear Thursday, January 17th, 2008 at 9:28 pm
No I didn't mention it in my PS. I was always brought up to believe that my "disability," as it is labeled, was just an interesting part of who I am, and not something to benefit from.

The gentleman who helped me with my pre-law advising stressed I should use it as an "advantage," and I really thought that was stupid and offensive on his part.

I am probably going to end up wrong on that idea, but the way he brought it up constantly made me not put it in.

You got accepted into some great schools, good luck with Georgetown!! – logged user

Cornell, Michigan Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008 at 10:41 pm
Just got into Cornell today.

Cornell is tied for first with Michigan now, after discovering how cool Ann Arbor is.

I'm going to decide by visiting both campuses and base my decision on atmosphere. They both having amazing reputations and architecture and I'll be happy at each.

I see that you're in at Cornell, maybe I'll see you there! spaceinvaders

Cornell vs WashU Monday, February 4th, 2008 at 3:05 pm
Funny you should ask...i have NO idea what to do. The more i think about the money, the more i think i should take it. I've never been to Ithaca, and I'm going to visit Duke and Michigan as well, maybe that'll help decide things? I feel really conflicted on what would really be the best option long term..a highly ranked school or a free (still well-regarded) school. Are you leaning either way?? k12lbloom

Northwestern Tuesday, February 5th, 2008 at 1:25 am
Yep. I was offered a deferred admission with a 45k dollar scholarship. Im straight from ugrad and they want people with experience. I only get the scholarship if I enter in 2009. LSApplicant12
My GMU rejection Tuesday, February 5th, 2008 at 1:39 pm
That surprised me as well. I don't take anything for granted, obviously, but I figured I'd be a competitive candidate at GMU. It didn't take them long to make up their minds, either. I guess maybe I waited too long to apply? I also had one semester where I threw up 3 F's and a D (my grades have been A's and B's since), and maybe that scared them off?

Who knows. TobyTheRobot
dang Wednesday, February 6th, 2008 at 1:20 am
WUStL gave you teh NASTY scholarship.
I think I just got into Michigan. i'm probably not getting into Col/NYU. Been dinged from Chi/Penn. Still waiting for UVA. If I get in, it'll come down to UVA/Mich, with money a big factor. If no UVA, then Michigan, no doubt.
Of course, like I said, i THINK i got in. im still skeptical gjrmf
re: oops Wednesday, February 6th, 2008 at 5:23 pm
WUSTL was a hard decision. When I began the process, I didn't think any school could have swayed me from going to Duke if I got in there.

Aside from the amazing scholarship, my visit to WUSTL really sealed the deal for me. The campus is nice- it reminded me a lot of Princeton. The law school itself is a very nice gothic building and there is a second law school building being completed next door. All of the people I met were very friendly and the professors were so engaging.

I don't have tons of money, so going to a top 25 law school for free was a huge deal for me.

You have so many great choices. Good luck with you decision! teddygrams23
sort of Saturday, February 9th, 2008 at 9:37 pm
I've been at Cornell for the last two years. While we love it here, we are pretty far from my fiances family. They live in Denver, so somewhere closer to the West would be a good choice. The money from Wash U is really tempting. Going to visit there soon. USC would be a good choice if they offered money also. U leaning towards Cornell? jimbofisher
Decision Tuesday, February 12th, 2008 at 9:24 am
Doubtful. Considering I'm not intent on working in New York, it would probably take considerable scholarship (which obviously isn't going to happen) for me to turn down a full ride at a top 20.

Vandy is about the only one I'm really anxious about hearing from... and they're taking forever. smc5784
non-acceptances Tuesday, February 12th, 2008 at 11:37 pm
yo, dude-
ha, yeah. tell me about it. if i had to speculate, i'd chalk it up to the fact that i went to community college (and got shit grades while there), i've got a bit of a criminal history, and -though my recommendations are glowing and may compensate -i think my PS was kind of weak. oh yeah, and i have absolutely no substantial ECs. trafficstreet
hls loci Friday, February 15th, 2008 at 11:47 am
Well, it wasn't really a LOCI, I basically sent them an email saying "Hey, I'm still interested, thought this new LOR might be useful." But yeah, we'll see how that works out.

Congrats on your acceptances, and your sweet schollies! You leaning towards anyplace in particular? FWIW, I've lived in Minneapolis and Austin, and you can't go wrong with either one. I liked the Wash U campus when I visited. Also, my best friend is a 3L at Fordham, and he loves it. So...yeah. You've got some nice options. ulfrekr
Re: GW Saturday, February 16th, 2008 at 12:44 pm
I was testing in the mid-60s, my highest practice was 166. I lucked out on the actual test with the most favorable testing order for me, along with one of the easiest games sections I've ever had. hiro26
Cornell Wednesday, February 20th, 2008 at 2:40 pm
Still not sure. I think UVA, Harvard, Penn, Columbia (and possibly Penn, NWU, NYU and Chicago) could trump Cornell. Depends on where else I get in and the $$$ situation.

How about you? Cornell is #1? SignPostUpAhead
re: leaning Sunday, February 24th, 2008 at 11:21 pm
I'm leaning towards staying at WashU for law school unless I get a scholly from Cornell. What about you? 1splitter
Cornell Wednesday, February 27th, 2008 at 12:22 am
Thanks for the note.

Cornell is more of a possibility than it was before the $$ offer. I guess I will just need to think about things.

Assuming you are Cornell-bound? rsr28

I covet your Wash U Scholarship Wednesday, February 27th, 2008 at 7:12 pm
Congrats on Cornell!

You should definitely go there... And withdraw your Wash U application so your fancy-schmancy scholarship can go to someone who needs it... Like me, for example.

Please!?! :D

Congrats on all your acceptances. TobyTheRobot
Cornell Wednesday, February 27th, 2008 at 10:35 pm
I'm shifting between GW, WUSTL, and Georgetown part-time. This would be so easy if I had gotten in to Georgetown full-time. I really like DC, but I would so much rather go to Georgetown than GW.

I didn't apply to Cornell because I wanted to be in a city for grad school. I spent 5 years in rural VA, and although I loved it, I want to be able to go to an MLB game and a legit steak-house every so often. Hope that makes sense and doesn't sound too selfish ortiz25
Why Cornell, you ask? Thursday, February 28th, 2008 at 2:57 pm
Top 14, man!

My philosophy is generally go to the highest ranked school you get accepted to (unless the difference is really small, like giving up a couple of spots to take a huge scholarship.)

There's a big difference between no. 19 and no. 13, and of course there's a big bright line between T14 and "the rest."

Now for me, WashU was the highest-ranked school I've gotten into (and, in all likelihood, will get into.) Therefore, my desire for your scholarship (or any portion of it) burns with the heat of a thousand suns.

Won't you, who sits comfortably within the high walls of the T14 citadel, throw your table scraps to those of us left out in the hostile wastelands?

DISCLAIMER: I am extremely shallow and will probably go to the highest ranked school that takes me. I understand that some people actually factor in geographic considerations, campus tolerability, and other factors. Those people, of course, are crazy. However, they do exist, and you may be one of them. ;) TobyTheRobot
biglaw! Friday, February 29th, 2008 at 11:46 pm
You are correct, sir.

Although I did consider trying to find work as a district attorney. If I were gonna do that I'd probably go to UNLV (my undergraduate alma mater) on the 75% scholarship.

Then I decided against it. I noticed that Wash U didn't have any students from UNLV (or the state of Nevada, for that matter.) In fact, most places don't. I'm going to the best school I can, and I'ma represent Vegas.

Oh, also I'm gonna make a crap-load of money.

Go Rebels! TobyTheRobot
Also Saturday, March 1st, 2008 at 9:56 pm
^Addendum to the above

Wash U has no UNLV students according to the class of 2010 profile on their website. I'm going to go ahead and assume that they don't have any in the classes of 2009 or 2008 either, because the Nevada educational system is, to paint with a broad brush, of questionable quality.

...

Except for me, I mean. I'm brilliant. ;D TobyTheRobot
Keep your stupid scholarship. See if I Wednesday, March 5th, 2008 at 1:15 pm
I just got word that Wash U broke off a lil' sump-um sump-um for their boy Toby.

Awwwwww jeah.

It's not a full tuition scholarship like yours, but it does take some of the bite off of those student loans.

So yeah, I'm pretty much going there. See you there, maybe. TobyTheRobot

Hi again. Any closer to deciding? ortiz25
re: any closer Saturday, March 15th, 2008 at 10:15 pm
My head says to go to GW, my heart says to go to WashU, and my ego says to go to Georgetown.

I keep joking that after my decision my ego or heart might be proven to be inflated.

I really think I am down to Georgetown and WashU. I've tried to put the decision off, hoping I would come up with a clear choice, but it is just very hard. ortiz25

Thanks for your input during the cycle. Good luck with your choice. Trust me that I know how difficult it is to commit. – logged user

I have checked out your profile a handful of times and never understood why your name on here is woeisme considering you are obviously having an awesome cycle with awesome numbers! Congrats! Where do you think you will end up? hkm6315TryingAgain

I applied to schools last cycle too and tried it again this time. Frustrating because most of my diagnostics were mid to upper 160s, but that just didn't surface the day of... Again.... lol. I wish I had the options you have! I guess everything happens for a reason?

In any case, I am most likely going with U of Illinois Champaign because all of my family is in Chicago, I wasn't even going to try for U of Chicago or Northwestern, and UIUC has awesome placement at the big chicago firms.

My roommate went to Wash U for undergrad and loved it! St. Louis can be a bit sketchy, but beautiful campus. 0 debt is alluring... Then again, you can't go wrong with a T14 and cash (Cornell).

Good luck with your decisions!... Oh, and when you withdraw from UT, can you tell them to piss off for me? lol j/k

it looks like it is USC. What about you? I'm still waiting on Penn... poochkers
Decision.. Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008 at 3:28 am
I'm visiting Austin this weekend. I think my decision will probably be between Austin and WUSTL at this point. The debt at Cornell freaks me out too much... bucky42

heyy Tuesday, April 8th, 2008 at 5:39 pm
hey--I am a guy but put the girl stuff up because I got a bit nervous about the adcomms...I guess I should have done it the other way around, oops.

Cornell is a beautiful school but in the middle of nowhere...I applied because I thought it was a target and it would be in the bag. I walked into the cycle much too arrogantly and, judging by the results, that really bit me in the ass. You have great options, so good luck with whatever happens. I'll be keeping tabs on you. poochkers

oh and I am staying on at cornell because I paid 75 dollars for that app! haha poochkers
Cornell v Vandy Wednesday, April 9th, 2008 at 10:32 pm
Ya know, it was a hard choice only because Cornell is an Ivy, and had nothing to do with money (though, had they given me twice as much, I couldn't have said no). I only buy the T14 to an extent, and since they're in upstate NY, I really just didn't want to be there...no matter how beautiful the law school is.

My gf, who is going wherever I go, is from upstate NY and she would not have been happy there. It's depressing and I don't want her to be unhappy, even though she was willing to go wherever.

So it came down to just loving Vanderbilt. I really, really loved Nashville and the people I met at the ASW. The job prospects aren't likely SO different that I will regret my decision, so weather wins out.

That said, I'll drop my pants and run to Michigan as soon as they come knockin' (*crosses fingers*). I think there is too much of a difference between the two to make the same choice (Vandy).

Where are you leaning? JNSL

WUSTL Thursday, April 10th, 2008 at 10:08 pm
How does depositing work when you have all of law school paid for? I've wondered this. I am just supposing they give it back to you if you matriculate, but I don't actually know.

Also, I thought their deposit deadline past on the first.

In any case, good luck with your decision.

Cornell Tuesday, April 15th, 2008 at 7:14 pm
Shit, I can't believe I didn't tell you this already. It isn't that I forgot, but that I didn't realize that it'd be useful for you to know.

You should call Cornell and ask them to match your UT scholarship. When I asked them for $$, the only letter they cared to see was UT (for whatever crazy reason, Vanderbilt didn't phase them).

Hopefully it's not too late... JNSL

dude.... cornell or washu? i am so f'in confused. i have a deposit at both. phaedrus
Cornell & Vandy Wednesday, April 16th, 2008 at 5:56 pm
Yeah, Vandy it is. Pocket Cornell withdrawal as of yesterday.

As for Cornell's $$, glad you already did that. I guess they liked my 1 point higher LSAT more than your significantly better GPA. I honestly have a hard time wrapping my head around it, but it probably all comes down to quartiles and their desire to have 169 as their upper Q. JNSL

I saw your comment on my account and just thought I would let you know that I chose Vanderbilt over Cornell, and I mostly based that decision on location. sinfulpeach

I see you've pinned the little "A" next to Cornell. Have you made up your mind? If so, what made you decide on Cornell? TobyTheRobot

Yeaaah. I changed my education info on my facebook to U of I for law school. Its pretty much official now lol. I wish Vanderbilt had the decency to formally reject me. Sheesh. What part of Illinois are you from? All my family is from Chicago. First generation Texan here. I would like to end up in Chicago though and I think UIUC would be great for that! hkm6315TryingAgain
Super Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008 at 5:41 pm
jealous about Cornell. A free ride from WUSTL is hard to pass up, but you can't beat T14 + cash+ not having to go to far. hkm6315TryingAgain
No sweat Thursday, April 24th, 2008 at 11:35 am
Thanks man, no sweat about your post - I was REALLY REALLY surprised as I thought for sure I wouldn't even get a second look. Perhaps I will see you there next year if they show more mercy on me but I'm not counting on anything. Looks like UCONN is the most likely place I will be! Keep in touch!

Cornell Friday, June 6th, 2008 at 4:59 pm
I really only applied there because my best friend from undergrad was a 1L there this year, and once I told her that I didn't want to live in the cold, she was pretty understanding. spsteadman

DePaul before Loyola Chicago because I was ranking my choices and I had to assign a number somewhere. Truth be told to me they were about even.

Pretty much a moot point anyway since I'm going to Drake.

Congrats and best wishes at Cornell!

Who knows... Tuesday, August 19th, 2008 at 10:35 pm
I actually really loved Kent, so it was a hard decision to make, especially since I had already started there. But Northwestern is an amazing school, and I would always regret it if I didn't go.

I'm not sure what got me in. I do have a lot of soft factors, but that didn't seem to matter before, so I'm surprised it did now. Still, I'm grateful and very excited! Best of luck in Ithaca! Aile
emory acceptance/scholarship Sunday, September 14th, 2008 at 6:27 pm
Hey, don't know if you remember this or not but I was wondering if you got your scholarship offer from Emory with your acceptance or if it came a significant amount of time after. Just wondering because our numbers seem really similar and I plan on applying pretty soon.

Thanks! rcamp28
lol Monday, September 29th, 2008 at 9:11 am
I would, but unfortunately I can't handle the NY weather. To be honest I probably can't handle it at some of the other places I'm applying to, but I'm more likely to go to those schools if I get accepted. I just don't want to apply to Cornell and potentially steal a spot from someone else who really wants to go. Thanks for the info! rcamp28
